general problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

Has 103,000 miles and is using a lot of oil. Will stop running in the middle of traffic. Must turn off engine and restart. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. When restarted it will only run approximately 45 mph. Just purchased car one year ago.

The SUV would not go in to drive when you change gears it only, goes in reverse.

The vehicle’s engine had been stalling shortly after ignition and when idling. I had it in a repair shop three separate times and was told that it was a problem with the solenoids. The first two times, they were cleaned. They were replaced on the third. I was also told that the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil, and to bring it in every 3000 miles for an oil change. On the date of the incident, I was traveling home. I took exit 363 off of I-70 onto us-287. While traveling down the off-ramp, the engine stalled. I was unable to brake properly. By the time the vehicle came to a complete stop, I was the middle of a busy crossroads. This particular area sees a lot of traffic, especially semitrailer trucks. When I was next able to get it into be looked at, I chose a different shop because the first had clearly missed something. It was this shop that told me my engine was ruined because it had been being driven without oil, despite not being at the 3000 mile mark yet. The vehicle has not been driven since, as I have not had the $7000 it would cost to replace the engine. Please, if there is any advice or help you can give me, I’d so appreciate words of wisdom. Has the bad problem of oil consumption now at 120k miles its want even run anymore.

The engine oil rings are faulty ,it's a manufacturer issue but lawsuits have been the only outcome . It also has many environmental hazards involved as well as public safety as this vehicle spews massive amounts of oil and gas and other nasty things out onto the road behind it from the exhaust.

Bought the Equinox used. Sure wish I would have researched better. It ran dry of oil. Dash read 55% oil life at the time. Car just cut off on me and after discovering a dry dipstick and replenishing oil, it sounded like a broken sewing machine, very loud rattling! car shakes so bad while stopped at traffic light, we are scared it is just going to die in traffic. Car will not idle to warm up. It cuts off. And once I get going, I almost have to pump gas pedal steadily to keep it running. Horrible!!! and money down the drain.

Oil wear out in two weeks n engine blew up. In the city street.

2. 4 liter ecotech engine used in 2011 chevy Equinox is in current recall by gm. Gm is using VIN number to prevent recall repair to vehicle. Vehicle was purchased in 2018 during recall. Local dealer refused to repair with substantial cost up front. Dealer is aware of issue with vehicle from conversation with lead technician who had been instructed to deter any repair of this vehicle to up front costs only. VIN will not show recall due to general motors cost of repair or replacement of engine.

Many 2011 Equinoxs have had their timing chain recalls. Mine is at 9000 miles and needs a new timing chain.

Engine type consumes excess oil. This has caused my oil to run out on multiple occasions and my vehicle to shut off while I'm driving, specifically when decelerating the rpms will drop to cause engine to fail. Driving with no oil will cause the engine to blow up one day or another.

I had gotten an oil change on September 4th 2020. A few days later I drove to georgia to pick up my boyfriend the day we got back we stood home the entire day the following day I went to go turn on my car and go somewhere the car turned on and then it is immediately turned back off my car has not turned on since then and I don't know what's wrong with it.

Stability control has come on the engine and it have reduce speed.

My vehicle is dying when stopping and running rough when cold started. It jerks and turns off at a stop, but turns on immediately after. It used to occasionally happen, now it's every time I stop.

It keeps cutting off and the oil keeps going empty some say recall 11195a mite be the promblem but I dont know jus got the car and when I start it up the peddle gets stuck and starts rite back up in motion and soon as you back up and soon as you trun out it cuts off on the high way and on city street and turing.

At red light,my car cut out. Wouldn't turn over. Had it towed and my mechanic said it was timing chains, which affected engine. Checked 8 of 16 valves that were bent, along w/8 rocker arms cracked and torn off. $4000 to fix this issue, money I do not have. Mechanic said gm knows about these issues and refuses to do a recall on this issue that has been going on for ten plus years.

A few days ago after work I stopped for gas and took a different route home. I live in a city with traffic so I idle a lot. While stopped, my �service stabilitrak� and �engine power reduced� came on. There was no where I could go but up the expressway. Once I sped up, the car proceeded to turn off. Luckily I was able to pull over onto the shoulder on top of the expressway. After that, the car wouldn't turn on anymore. After about 30 minutes, everything started flickering and then it had no electricity running at all. Not even my emergency lights. This was really scary because ppl are driving really fast next to me and and it was already night time. I finally got help and had it towed the next morning. The key was stuck in the ignition but still no sign of life until after it was towed. I can't afford to take it in just yet but I am extremely scared to drive it as I am a single parent with no family in this new city.

Took vehicle to repair shop for codep0420. Replaced catalytic converter. Car is 2011 with 98 plus thousdand miles. Found out that this is covered under revised 15810-03. Since it was not done at a dealer, I am unable to recover the costs. If this revision was donejuly 2018, how can gm only allow for vehicles repaired prior to August 31st, 2017 be allowed reimbursment? please advise.

I was driving to work this morning when I went over train tracks. As soon as I did my "stbilitrak" light came on. All wheel drive turned off as well as abs. My car would no longer accelerate. I tried to break and nearly lost control of the vehicle. I'm upset with my vehicle. I have had so many problems with it. I have always owned a chevy, but I think they quality in work is decreasing. I will be thinking about what kind of car I will get next. I prefer chevy since it's all our family has every bought, however I'm sick of having unexpected problems with it.

Fuel pump/ low fuel issues fuel pump failing, which in part leaks fuel into the engine. Running error codes. Low engine power light displayed on dash followed by reduce power. Dealership advises it's a 900 charge. Certain 2011 Equinox models fall under the product emission recall 43180 high pressure fuel recall. However I am being advised mine does not although issue appears to be consistent with recall at first glance.

2011 chevy Equinox ticking engine and erratically idles. Runs rough and shifting is inconsistent. Took it to chevy dealership and they said the timing chain is bad. $1500 repair! timing chains are meant to last the life of the car, these ones are defective. The recall should have been issued years ago. My car has 125k miles. Hate chevy.

The vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic, they determined that the vehicle was part of an extended warranty issued by the manufacturer and they did not repaired it. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Bp.

The air bag light came on a few weeks ago and the light on the dashboard stays on when driving.

My car is consuming huge amounts of oil before it is time for an oil change. I am putting oil in this car at least once a week. I let chevy know of this issue but they said that there has not been a recall for this problem. I only drive to school and work which is only a 15 mile round trip. This is ridiculous!!.

Shortly after I financed the vehicle it started having issues while idling, if I idle too long it will start to shake and will shut down. I have poured money into fixing the vehicle and spent the last two 3 years trying to fix the original issue of it shutting down. I will lose throttle in the gas pedal and it will just turn off out of nowhere while I'm driving away from my home. It seems to not like when I idle or drive slow when I'm on the freeway I have to make sure I'm driving fast the gas pedal keeps throttle if I drive too slow it's a risk for it to starting to shake and shut down again. While trying to find the cause of the problem mechanics have found parts that were years past due of needing replacing. So while they thought that that was the cause of the problem and it looked possible with a condition it was in every time we would think that we have solved the problem until the next day when I try to drive my vehicle and it does the same thing. I have been through five mechanics trying to solve this issue and it is becoming a nightmare not even the dealership could figure it out.

My 2011 chevy Equinox was not picking up speed, and would shut off when I stopped for more than 30 seconds. The engine also sounded very loud when in park. I had a diagnostic done at the dealership and it was determined that the timing chain needed to be replaced. My car had been in the shop two months prior for replacement of the camshaft position sensor. My car currently has 102,000 miles. The dealership said that metal shavings were also found in my oil. I tried driving my car after the diagnostic and the "reduced engine power" indicator came on, causing me to have to pull over on the highway and be towed. I contacted gm regarding a recall and was informed that the particular model of my vehicle was not included in the recall and since my warranty had expired there was nothing they could do. I have read reports of my 2011 Equinox owners who have had similar issues.

I bought the car and drove it for a couple weeks. About every 200-400 miles I would have to add oil. Sometimes when checking the dip stick there would be no oil at all on the dip stick. After week 3 I was driving and the reduce engine power came on. I had it towed 360 miles to the dealer I purchased it from and was told the engine is junk and something in the timing chain had failed. The dealer won't stand behind the vehicle one bit and neither will the factory so now I'm stuck with a car that doesn't run and have to purchase a new motor.

Damages to my engine were caused solely as a direct result of excessive oil consumption caused by defective piston rings used by gm during manufacturing that caused piston ring wear. The repairs that are needed are the direct result of excessive oil consumption caused by defective piston ring wear causing time chain to stretch and break. I took very good care of my car and had the oil changed every 2,000 to 3,000 miles. I had the oil consumption test done at thomas Chevrolet in media, PA which proved my car was burning excessive oil which was supposed to be covered under multiple recalls from gm - sb 13-06-01-003f. I was told there was nothing wrong with my car and after driving only 2,605 miles, my engine failed. The guide broke off and was sheared into fragments, chain was roaming free, chain cut into top of valve cover, cracked formed in top of valve cover, oil was leaking out of hole, motor shavings all inside motor from internal parts, grinding was due to lack of lubrication from oil being lost, causing knocking noises. Dealer recommended engine replacement at a cost of $7,800. Also sb-10090101-2280-1 also concerns the oil consumption problem and timing chain.

Was never informed of oil consumption issue. Consistently getting worse. Uses 1 quart every 1000 miles. No smoke, no leaking. No oil warning lights. Check engine light. Catalytic converter codes. Replaced under warranty. Chevy said was due to oil consumption.

The car has began using ridiculous amounts of oil, I have to put a quart of oil in every couple of weeks, the other issue is the transmission has started having issues it literally just passed the 100k mileage mark and this started, as if it was timed by the warranty, I see tons of people with this issue.

Engine started knocking and smoking, died while moving. Engine seized due to no oil. Added 1 qt of oil the day before. Low oil light did not come on. Oil had been changed within 3,000 miles. Car needs whole new engine.

The motor hade 80,000 mile on and blow all the oil out just as the 2012 Equinox did and now I have no motor. Gone down the road about 55mph. On hwy. 55 in montrose mn.

When the can starts it sounds like a diesel. Some thimes the enison will turn over and over and I have to turn it off the try to start it than it will start. The car will die in the midel of the highway. Some thime I have to pump the gas to get it going like it just ran out of fule.

Error code p010 camshaft position actuator solenoid. Rough idle, dies in stop and go traffic. Or when stopped at a stop sign and turning. There was a recall for this issue on cars built in different factories, they refuse to repair mine because it wasnt made in one of those factories. Have had the same issue since vehicle was 3 months old. Chevy dealer told me they couldn't find any issues.
