Failure Date: 09/15/2019

The pump was replaced at my expense and I want reimbursed by dealership. At times I was doing over 70 miles an hour going around curves and turns and it would shut off. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

2 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

While driving my 2010 chevy Hhr, I had just exited the highway and was entering the speedway fuel station, my steering just seemed to lockup on me and a dash alert flashed "service esc" then I suddenly lost all power! in order to avoid any major tragedy like colliding with a gas pump or another vehicle, I was able to run it into the curb I felt like my arms were nearly ripped from the sockets. After having it towed to my home and the following day towed to a mechanic. Discovered that the experience was not exclusively mine, apparently some 444 others had as well. I checked for recall notices was told that the recalls were closed and repairs were done. I would like to know by whom, when and where exactly! it obviously was not done permanently nor satisfactorily as I'm very sore now, but could have been killed!.

4 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/24/2014

I have a 2007 chevy Hhr. I've had the fuel pump replaced. But not many others. Until now there is a chime and the power steering indicator on the dash comes on and the power steering assist goes off. At first it was once in awhile. Now I can drive 30 seconds to 10 min and the power assist goes out. I restart and it comes back for a moment or so. All the way to work no power steering assist. On the way home it worked fine. I can't find any pattern to it. Key in the ignition only as stated in the recall notice I received about the power steering going out. Everything on the key chain it seems to work more often than not. I have contacted a chevy dealership and chevy. But since my VIN is not on the power steering recall I will have to pay for it out of pocket. Which I do not have the money after I did my taxes. This is obviously an issue and needs to be fixed. I found a notice on the gm website that listed the 2006-2007 Hhr to have lifetime warranty on the power steering. But since there is no recall on it I am out of luck. I sent the article to the chevy dealership and they won't do anything because the VIN isn't listed. As far as I am concerned this should be covered. Far too many people have had this issue fo it not to be covered to some extent.

5 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

I've been having problems with my right front end since I bought the car. When I cut the wheel hard to the right, it makes a loud thumping noise like something is going to pop off. It makes the most noise in a slow or parking movement. Then I take it in and they pump up the tires with air, and say there's nothing wrong with it. Then the air low light for the tires comes on. You fill it up, and then another one comes on. Then check the air bag pops ons. I've even experienced the car literally feeling like the motor idling real low to almost shut off. This has happened atleast 3 times. I was only doing about 25 miles an hour, but it was really cold outside. Everytime I have taken it for repair, they have said, we can't find anything wrong.

6 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

I was exiting a commercial driveway upon trying to make a right turn, the steering was very difficult and it took a minute to straighten up. My dashboard indicated there was a problem with the power steering. I immediately pulled over to assess the vehicle and came to find out that this vehicle does not have a power steering pump, its electrical. At the time of this occurrence I was 100 miles away from home. Upon researching this problem, I came across this website with complaints from other drivers with this same problem. I just purchase my car 3 weeks ago. Hopefully, you will take in consideration the number of complaints and request a recall. Does someone have to have an accident or be killed before this problem is rectified?.

8 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

On August 28, 2012, the electronic power steering motor went out on my 2007 Chevrolet Hhr. We went across the oncoming lane and it was extremely hard for my husband to get it back into the right lane. On 8/30/2012, we took it to a gm garage and they replaced it with a reman. Powering steering motor, giving us a one year/12,000 mile warranty. . On July 9, 2013, I was driving the Hhr out of state and was coming out of a slight left hand curve when the power steering motor went out again, which I was not able to steer the car and it ended up in the right hand bank/ditch. Less than one year and less than 12,000 miles later, the gm garage said that they would replace the power steering pump if we brought the car back to them. That is impossible because the damage was more than enough to total the car and it happened in another state. They said there is nothing they can do. Plus, now I have points against my insurance.

9 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

As I began to pull out from the parking lot after work one evening, I began to hear a chime like tone, at the same time a message appeared on the dashboard that read "power steering. . . " I turned off the engine, checked under the hood for a possible broken power steering belt, but could not find the power steering pump . Re started the engine and the power steering worked fine for about a week. I later discovered the power system assist consist of an electric power steering motor and not a hydraulic. As time passed, the problem became more frequent. Now, once the car begins to move, it takes only a couple of minutes, if not seconds, before I hear the chime, the message shows up, and here I go again, struggling to steer with one hand and shifting with the other, at times through very heavy traffic. My car is a standard shift. It has become very difficult to cross lanes wile steering with one hand at the same time you are attempting to shift gears during heavy and slow traffic. I am beginning to suffer shoulder and neck pain which compounds the problem. I called gm on this issue but the gm rep. Said my vehicle was not included on the power steering recall, only recalled for ignition switch problem. I believe that if the ignition switch and power steering are recalls for other models, my 2006 Hhr should also be recalled for ignition switch and the power steering issues.

13 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

When driving vehicle approximately 20mph, chime sounds, dash displays power steering message and power steering is gone. Has happened twice and when going around corner nearly crash twice now due to sudden loss of power steering. I bought this car new 1/2/06 and it only has a tad over 40,000 miles so warranty has expired. Vehicle has same power steering pump as cobalt for which a recall was done. Same exact part means problem should not just be limited to the cobalt and g5. This is a safety issue and cobalt & g5 were recalled but not the Hhr. I belong to a very large Hhr community and this is a common problem and needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured or killed. I live in colorado and had this happened when roads were icy it could have created a serious issue. Please let me know what can be done to correct this as the other vehicles the same year as mine with the same part have been recalled. It's an obvious defect and out of concern for the safety of the driver of the vehicle and the others around them when the problem occurs, the cost to repair should rest on Chevrolet and not the owner of the vehicle. I am a single elderly woman struggling to make ends meet and cannot afford to pay for a repair, nor should I have to because of a known faulty part. Thank you for your assistance.

15 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/25/2011

Two days ago, while driving 25 mph in my parents' residential development, I received a "power steering" alert on my information bar and immediately lost control of my steering. I was in the process of making a left turn and luckily there was no one else on the street at the time or I surely would have hit them rather than just driving onto the curb before coming to a stop. It was extremely hard to turn the steering wheel in any either direction. I was able to regain control only after turning the ignition off and restarting. After the visit with my parents, the power steering went out three times in a twelve mile drive home. In two days this has now happened six times without rhyme or reason at varying speeds and at different lengths of drive time. I first discovered the problem on Friday night and immediately began to research the problem on the internet. I discovered that the chevy cobalt and chevy Hhr from years 2006-2010 share the same steering motor (not a pump with fluid) and they are a known problem. Apparently there has been a recall for the cobalt but not the Hhr? there was talk of a recall in canada for the Hhr but not in the USA? I don't understand why when this is a very serious safety concern. I contacted my dealership early on Saturday morning. I told him what was happening and he said that "the serial number on my particular vehicle was not eligible for part replacement coverage". How are some covered and not others? I cannot drive the car without fear of again losing control in the middle of a turn, but this time causing a serious accident. This needs to be investigated immediately.
