My steering wheel begins to violently shake, onset about 10 minutes into driving, speeding up or braking has no effect on the frequency or level of shake. My steering wheel will be normal, about 10 minutes into the drive, going the same speed will begin to shake. I can stop and park the car, restart it, will not shake until I am driving again about 10 minutes into the drive. While shaking, it becomes very difficult to move the steering wheel even to get into the next lane. This has happened while city driving, I am too afraid to take it on the highway or go over 40 mph as I feel like I have no control of the vehicle when the steering wheel shakes.

I have had my Hhr 2009 for a year now and I've changed the brakes twice within two weeks. . The first set was still new but it kept making grinding noises and roaring noises when I press down on brakes. . . My steering wheel shakes like crazy I really do love my car and I wanna get the problem resolved ASAP.
Takara recall. While pressing on the break pedal to slow down or stop the entire steering wheel shakes uncontolabley. While driving on bumpy roads feels like the entire front end of the vehicle is going to fall apart. I have taken it into different places and they say everything is fine. Next stop is the dealer.

The steering wheel turns to right by itself while driving slow. I have to hold the steering while real tight and firm to stop it from turning right. On Aug 26 2017 at 5pm, I was ready to make a slight right turn, but the steering wheel took control over me, the car turned right by itself before I turned the steering wheel. This morning while driving in slow traffic, the steering wheel turned towards right, I had put strength and hold firm and strong with my hands on steering wheel to stop it from turning right by itself. While driving fast, I felt the steering wheel vibrate towards right and heard vibrating sound. . . It could be life threatening if the steer wheel is out of control.
A warning light comes on in the dash and then the power steering goes out, causing the car to steer very hard. Before this started to happen, for the last couple of years every time I applied the brakes the steering wheel would vibrate very bad. I had everything checked like brake pads, rotors, shocks, tires etc. Nothing ever seemed to solve the problem. Now with the power steering going out, I checked to see if there was a recall on this problem. I was told there was a recall about this same problem with the chevy cobalt which is basically the same car. I don't understand why a recall has not been made on the Hhr.

Excessive steering wheel vibration at highway speeds, and on city streets signal light stay on when turning into another street that your have to manually turn off signal lights( this has being a problem since I purchase, documented by local chevy dealer) . I believe this cars have problems with their entire steering column not just their ignition switch.
2013, when applying breaks on grade steering wheel violenty shaking. June 2013 if applying full breaks, steering wheel would also pull. Could not control vechile with shaking and pulling. Drove ith hazards in slow lane at lesser speeds. Very bad situation. This siuation occured again this year (2014 may) while again on a grade. The shaking is voilent it very difficult to control the vechile. Drove with hazard again in slow lane. . This is very dangerous and worse when turning. Good wayto kill yourself and others. I was at the dealer havign my ignition replaced and they said its normal and the rotors shoudl be turned. I explain that the car was barely controllable. No standard rotor problem should make a car shake and pull that violently. These cars should be taken off the road. They are also no very compitent in windy conditions. I live in a mild climate zone and have driven many vechiles and my fisrt winter in the card was very very uncomfortable. That and the windows being copped are a huge visibilty issue. A design like this should have never been approve. Add to that poor parts to save money and these are just not safe. Not safe to those that own them or others. Also front end has ongoing front end suspension problem. I had perviosu issues with the radiator and guard that shoudl have been installed by the dealer but was not. As well as fauly door handles. Reapir bu dealer but now the door leaks. These are samll things compared to the othes. I would like the drvign commision to do the right thing and have the company buy these cars back. . I appreciate the new iginition but that does not hing to help the breaking issues they call normal.
I have had two issues with this car and it has made me feel unsafe when driving it. The first involves the brakes. When braking after driving at 45mph or more, the steering wheel begins shaking. I was told the brake pads needed to be changed. I did and the problem still continued. Last month, the power steering light came on the dashboard. For a couple of days, it went away but soon the steering wheel became too hard to turn. Took it to mechanic who changed the power steering module as indicated by the diagnostics test. Once the change was done, the service esc light came on and the car has been crazy ever since. I have yet to resolve the issue as nobody knows what is wrong with my car. It has been almost a month already. I am unhappy with this car and would not recommend to anybody. After looking it up, I see that many have this same issue. It is very unsafe since this can happen at any moment while driving!.

This is an ongoing safety problem that chevy/gm doesn't care to worry about. My cars steering wheel shakes when I am driving. Sometimes to the point of the car to be uncontrollable in addition to this the traction control light goes on along with the engine light. I have brought this in to the dealer every two months and have been told a combination of what the dealers mechanics feel the problem is. I have had steering columns replaced, cam shaft solenoids, bushings, rotors. The list goes on. Nothing has fixed the issue. Today bringing back to the dealer I am now told that I am lucky to be alive as both control arms in the front are seconds from breaking along with the links that keep the car stable. . The mechanic shared that had I hit a pothole I would have died as the car would have spun out of control and impossible to recover as I would have no way to control the steering wheel. Now having two kids, and this being an ongoing problem one would think that chevy/gm would pay for the replacement of their faulty part. I cant afford a new car, and I can no longer afford to pay for gm's mistakes. My car is paid off and now I don't feel safe driving it. To "fix it" and I say this loosely it will cost 1,800 out of my pocket.

Steering wheel began to shake violently, car pulled to left. Repeated visits and calls to dealership resulted in denial of problem until warranty ran out. After hydroplaning on a small puddle of water, esc and service traction lights came on. Dealership "reset lights" car has continued to shake. Have put 3 sets of tires on car and 2 sets of brakes, one set of rotors and turned rotors. Dealership says this is normal. Only found out about ignition recall after calling to complain about light still on and yet another set of bald tires. Called gm and they offered rental car until ignition parts come in but will replace esc sensor at my cost. No investigation as to stabilization issue of car or why it is chewing up tires and pulling to the left. The car is still unsafe. A google search will show many others are experiencing this same issue. Awaiting yet another response from gm. This car needs serious investigating. An accident is at hand. They only want to sell me tires and parts. The shake is dangerous and the esc and traction is disengaged at present. Gm has known about this problem. Pauline at gm has been nice but not helpful.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the steering wheel began to shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technician advised that the steering column would have to be replaced. After the repair, the failure recurred. The technician replaced the steering column for the second time but the failure continued. The technician then advised the contact that the rotors and stabilizer bar would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 43,700.
When the car get to 60-65mph the steering wheel start to vibrate very badly.
