I am having power steering problems. I can be driving down the roadway at any speed between 20-80mph and all of a sudden there will be a message under the speedometer that says power steering failure and I will have lost all of my power steering control. I can pull over to the side of the roadway and turn my engine off and then restart the car and the power steering will work again. This has been occurring for the last 8 months too my car.

Power testing motor can fail randomly and at any time causing the car to revert to manual steering control and increasing chances of a crash. Defective is the power steering motor controller and or the torque angle sensor! wife was mid-turn when power steering failed and she almost ran into a tree. 16 year old daughter was driving and veered into oncoming traffic when power steering motor failed while she wasn't in a turn.
"electric power steering assist". My VIN number is not under warranty for the service recall number 11415 electric power steering assist. That should be serviced under safety recall 10023 prior to may 31,2010. I own a 2010 chevy Hhr (non-turbo) and the power steering assist has failed.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Hhr. While driving approximately 10 mph, the power steering ability seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. After five minutes, the vehicle restarted normally and the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to rydell Chevrolet (18600 devonshire street, northridge, CA 91324) where it was diagnosed that the power steering motor failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,208. The VIN was not available.
Every couple weeks while driving my car, there will be a ding sound with a message indicating power steering failure. I have to pull over and keep turning it on and off. Eventually it seems to reset itself and work again. I cannot steer it at all when it fails and is at times hard to get off the road in time before it locks up. It is very dangerous since I have to drive on a highway to get to work.
While driving the power steering failed and the indicator came on the dash indicating failure. If the car is turned off and then restarted the power steering will work fine for awhile but will eventually fail again, usually within 15-20 min. This started at 78,000miles.
I parked my car in a parking space, turned it off and removed the key. I opened the driver door, stepped out with my left foot and the car started rolling backward, knocking me back into the driver seat. I slammed on the brake, checked the gear and noticed the car was not in park. Recently within the past 24 hours, I have had inconsistent power steering performance. I was driving at 45 mph then slowed down to make a right turn into the parking lot. As I entered the turn, my dash warning sounded and displayed "power steering. " from that point, I have had intermittent power steering interruption. I bought power steering fluid only to discover (after checking online for the location of my power steering resevoir) that I have an electrical power steering system. This discovery led me to the 4 recalls since the manufacture of my vehicle. . . Ignition fails and power steering fails. I checked my VIN but it comes up as no recalls although my car meets the criteria (2010 chevy Hhr non-turbo). This vehicle is not safe for me to drive especially to transport my child/family. However I am forced to drive it in order to make my living. I will take a photo of the warning message and upload it when I get another. . . As I am positive I will get another fault warning on my way to work in the morning. My vehicle was purchased used in 2016. . . Currently there is no lienholder.

Power steering failed while turning at a signal on a city street. It continued to be non-operative for the rest of the drive home (3 more turns). After sitting in the driveway for a day, the power steering began working again.
Power steering failed causing dangerous driving condition. Sudden change in ability to control vehicle. Start vehicle and has power steering for a few minutes then goes out while driving.
The electric power steering will go out while driving for no apparent reason. The light will light up on the dash stating power steering failure. Sometimes when I am in a curve the power steering will go out making it difficult to control the car in a curve because it's not expected. I can be driving down the interstate and it will just go out. I will have to stop the car and shut the car off and restart it and it will be fine for a little while and then it will go out again, and will have to repeat the cycle of stopping and shutting the car off or continue to drive without a power steering unit, which I have to do most of the time since I drive a lot on the interstate. I have read that a lot of people with this same car has experienced the same issues and I don't understand why general motors have not recalled these cars and replaced these defective power steering units.

Power steering fails indiscriminately when in motion; returns when vehicle is turned off and restarted.
Intermittent power steering failures caused by overheating or worn electric power steering assist motor. Power steering would fail when mid-turn, at non-highway speeds, causing steering to require much more effort to work. Very high risk for mid turn collisions.
Vehicle has roughly 93,000 miles. Last week while the vehicle was in operation, the power steering suddenly cut out. This was accompanied by a warning indication on the dash display. When the vehicle is turned off and then turned on, the power steering resumes. However, after a few miles, the power steering fails again. This occured on both city driving and at freeway speeds. I tried changing out the fuse, but that did not correct the problem. This is a dangerous condition when it fails out of nowhere. Easy to lose control of the vehicle. I noticed that a recall was announced for the 2009 and 2010 Hhr, but not other years. Why not?.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Hhr. While driving at low speeds, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the vehicle operated properly after 20 minutes. The failure occurred approximately 30 times sporadically in one month. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,567.
While driving my power steering failed I currently do not have power steering still. The back latch will not open as well. I cannot access the trunk where my battery is because the latch will not open.
Power steering fails suddenly, making the car impossible to steer. This has happened in heavy traffic and on the freeway at higher speed. Other Hhr's have been recalled for this problem but not the 2006 models. I've read other 2006 owners complaining of this same problem. I've checked the fuses and cannot find any reason for this problem. If I turn the ignition off, then restart the car the steering works fine for about 5 minutes before the steering goes out again. This problem started about 5 months ago, about may 2016. At first it occurred randomly, but now happens every time I drive it. Speed has no bearing on the problem as I can be driving 20 mph or 70 mph. I currently have 149,580 miles on this car. I've had the recalled ignition replaced twice and I'm wondering if this problem is related as the power steering is electric. I've had several close calls and feel the car is too dangerous to drive.
While my daughter was driving, power steering failed, dash indicator came on and she was unable to turn the wheel while in the intersection. Luckily she was on a quiet street was able to stop the vehicle safely, shut it off, then restart. Power steering was resumed after restarting. This could have happened anytime and caused an accident. Recalls show on cobalt which has same power steering for this model year, but not on Hhr. 2009 and 2010 Hhr have recalls as well. This is a major safety concern, why is there not a recall to repair? many, many reports on the internet of same problem.

This car has been a lemon since day one when I bought it from the dealership, front end shakes when you go 60 mph. Now I see there are over 300 complaints of steering problems! what am I supposed to do with this heap? will the dealership fix the faulty parts ?.
