Steering wheel shakes violently when the car is started. After awhile it goes out completely making it extrememly dangerous to steer or turn while driving. Took it to a dealer in norfolk, ne, norfolk gm service center, and they said recall was fixed back in 2014 at a shop in hartington, ne. Same issue immediaitly happened again. 2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2019

Steering wheel started shaking slightly in August. Now it shakes and then power steering goes out. This happens on the highway, city streets anywhere going any speed. As soon as the car starts the steering wheel shakes, of you turn the wheel in either direction it will clam it a little. Break lights randomly stop working. Replaced break lights 6 times in the past 2 years. Headlights melt the plastic has been going on since we purchased the vehicle in 2017. All of these issues have been recalled but not on my VIN.

3 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

I started to have a issue with the power steering assist a few days ago. The car had a weird noise on the steering and the steering wheel will shake on its own when the vehicle was on. It was not until yesterday that the power steering locked up as I was driving. Steering became heavy. It was very dificult to perform sharp turns. There was a message and a chime upon the steering getting stiff. I took my vehicle to the dealership and was told that although there is a recall notice for my particular vehicle that when using the VIN code no recalls come up so that they would not perform the service.

4 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. While the vehicle was stationary at a drive-thru, the steering wheel independently maneuvered left, right, back, and forth. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called the dealer (chase Chevrolet, located at 6441 holman rd, stockton, CA 95212, 209-475-6600) and a supervisor agreed to replace the torque sensor assembly for free. The dealer confirmed that the previous vehicle owner serviced the vehicle per NHTSA campaign number: 14v153000 (steering) in 2014. When the vehicle was taken back to the dealer it was diagnosed that the power steering motor and the power steering column needed to be replaced. In addition, the mechanic mentioned that there were no diagnostic codes found on the vehicle. The contact and the mechanic test drove the vehicle and the steering wheel vibrated. Additionally, the steering wheel independently maneuvered left, right, back and forth during the test drive. The vehicle was at the dealer for one week, but was not repaired due to the repair costs. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and handed the keys back to the contact. While reversing from a parking space and turning to the left, the steering wheel veered independently to the right without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel would independently move back and forth. As a result, the contact crashed into a pole. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact was concerned that the failure could have caused a fatal injury. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for the most recent failure. The contact stated that the failure occurred on various occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 79,500.

6 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

Steering shaft inadequate support of u-joint. The steering wheel shakes going down the road. You can feel a clicking in it when you turn. It's like the steering wheel could break or something. Also every now and then there is a sudden loss of power steering. Power steering goes out and steering wheel locks up. It's done this numerous times over the years. And when we take it in they say the recall won't cover it. I've tried calling dealership and they say theirs no open recalls for the vehicle.

7 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

I can't use power steering fluid in my car because I've been told it's electrical. I was pulling out of my apartment building and I came up to a red light up the road to turn left. I stopped at the light for a minute, as the light turned green I continued an thats when the problem occurred. I couldn't barely turn my steering wheel and its hard an thats when "power steering" popped up on my dash. My steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and I'm scared to drive it and its my only transportation to and from my job.

8 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2017

The steering wheel shakes by itself even when parked and idling. When starting the car up the alarm comes on (ding, ding, ding) and the power steering is no longer. I have to turn the car off and restart it. This has gotten worse and am having a mechanic look at it but in my eyes this is a manufacturer issue based off of the research I've gathered online. Most mechanics I brought it to never have seen this problem before.

9 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

I have a 2005 Malibu that I bought new. It has always had a "popping" noise in the front end when you make a turn. At first it was intermittent, seemed like it did it worse when you made sharp turns. I asked the dealer to check it out a few times - always told they could never find anything wrong with it. It has gotten worse over the years, it seems to pop all of the time now and the steering wheel seems to vibrate a little - especially on rough roads. Still, the dealer says they can't find anything wrong--actually got tired of asking them & quit asking when I took my car in for service. Now I get a letter about something being wrong with the power steering and they will replace it for 10 years, 100,000 miles. Called the dealer-they argued that it was only 70,000 miles. Had to fax them a copy of my letter proving it said 100,000 miles. I asked if this was the same problem that I'd been having with the popping noise-they told me that this part wasn't going to fix that popping noise. Had to keep asking for the part to be replaced. I am hoping this part will fix whatever the popping noise is. My son drives this car every day and I'm worried about the safety of the car.
