5 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

Power steering started failing. Usually it would come back if I restarted the car. Today it has failed and not returned. Usually seemed to fail when I first started the car, but later it seemed like it failed as I drove the car.

6 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Issue one is the drivers seal welds brake on the rear and front from the floor mount base to the elevated control thus in the case of a crash the seat is compromised to separate completely from the floor mount due to these welds being broke. Second issue fuel pumps begin to leak at the seal of the pump at the fuel tank leaking heavy amounts of fuel from the tank and onto the exhaust. Third issue which I have seen multiple reports of recalls but the dealership denies there is an issue with the maxx that only the base model is effected but while driving the power steering will fail and the car has no control and will violently jerk in one direction throwing the vehicle in to oncoming lanes or even into the ditch. Happens periodically the power steering message appears on main control message screen and car will sound an alarm, other times the entire dash board warning lights from check engine, oil, air bag, seat belt, so on so all come on and the power steering goes out. I have found that this issue usually occurs while accelerating whether slowly or even while trying to speed up more aggressively to merge unto expressway traffic. I have nearly wrecked into numerous cars due to steering going out and wheel will violently jerk one direction or to the other. Not sure why this site shows a recall for power steering but dealership denies there is a active recall for the maxx but they have one for the 2005 base Malibu.

7 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

Total power steering failure. Last failed when car pulled into garage, failed days earlier when attempting to leave a parking lot, first failure was while driving down highway, approximately 50 mph (mileage on car at that time is approximated). Problem precisely matches that of NHTSA campaign #14v153000, that is, warning bell chimed, display on radio flashed "power steering," and the steering was no longer power-assisted. I was told by both Chevrolet and gm help centers that my car's VIN did not match those on the recall list, so I guess somebody simply forgot to send my car the memo, as it has failed three times already. Interesting note: the most recent failure occurred after returning home from Chevrolet dealer, where the power steering system/controller (or whatever it's called) was cleared and reprogrammed. Five miles and about twenty minutes later, it failed again.

8 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

There was no accident, but this is a complaint against gm for failing to replace all necessary components for a recall. On 3/31/14, gm issued a recall notice, #14v153000 for 1. 3 million cars under 4 separate bulletins & this included my 05 Malibu for steering: electric power assist - there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering assist that could occur at any time (bulletin 14116). Under bulletin 14116, gm would replace only the torque sensor assembly (not the steering motor) for certain gm cars including my car and the gm dealer did so on 10/21/14. Subsequently on 1/10/15, the power steering failed and on 1/14/15, I took this car to the dealer and they stated the steering motor module 6. 605 was defective and replaced it on the same day. I had to pay for this since it was not covered under the bulletin this part seems to be the same part that would be replaced under the other 3 gm bulletins, # 14115, 14117 & 14118 for the same/similar steering problem. My concern is the steering motor module was not initially deemed to be a hazard for gm cars covered under the 14116 bulletin (and my 05 Malibu). Thus, other Malibu owners under the 14116 bulletin may have had the same problem with the motor and another recall may be necessary.

13 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

This relates to recall campaign 14v153000. In 2009, I first began having power steering failures when accelerating from stopped. I would feel the steering wheel jerk to the path of least resistance (straighten) if I was in a turn, and would hear three chimes (ding-ding-ding). If I released the gas pedal, the power steering would resume operations, but if I maintained pedal activation, power steering would remain off and an alert would illuminate on the dashboard indicating power steering failure. The problem occurred with increased frequency on hot days, especially when air conditioning was operating on high (leading me to believe that it was a loss of power to the steering column, induced by a problem with the way that the electrical system was set up--giving higher priority to a/c fans than to the power steering). In October 2009, the vehicle was repaired under special bulletin 10183. However, in April 2014, I began having this problem again. On every day where the temperature was above 75 degrees, I've had this issue. I called gm and they stated that my VIN is not among those affected, though I drive a 2005 chevy Malibu and I clearly have had the same problem that other vehicles using the same parts. The dealer refuses to look at it unless I have a recall letter. Nhtsa should look into how many customers have been notified out of this my, especially since there is nothing in the language (or logic) of this recall that should exclude my vehicle.

Was doing 40mph power steering failed spun out hit a wall ended up facing the wrong way on one way highway. . I have had so many issues with the 2005 Malibu it should be pulled off the road for sure, I have had to replace struts 2 times now and about to replace my 2nd fuel pump, my car has stalled out on many occasions, has left me stranded many other occasions. For as much money as I have spent to buy the car used in 2009 with 22000 miles on it it cost us 10500$ we have easily spent over that in repairing it, the worst investment I have ever made. . The lighting constantly burns out the blinkers and headlights fail constantly, the gas cap threads expand and or shrink and causes the cap to either be impossible to remove or impossible to lock depending on the weather. I also have had anti theft security lock out many times where the car stalls and locks me out of using it. Power steering failed, fuel would not pump properly into the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed improper readings, and the speedometer was inoperative. My remote keys fail constantly as well, alignment which makes the car shake/vibrate at speeds 60+ my cd player does not work either I had dealership repair it before warranty it would lock the disc in the player after warranty problem started again,, my seat warmers get stuck on it was a constant problem even before warranty was done the dealership would fix it but now not under warranty they wouldn't repair it or the cd player again even though it was an obvious complaint before the end of the warranty well we are car shopping now for 2 new cars and I promise you I will never purchase another gm/chevy ever again worst customer service worst cars and to dangerous to reconsider.

33 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

While driving on local street at approximately 35mph, the power steering on our car stopped working making steering very difficult. My husband was driving and he had trouble steering to the side of the road. He turned off the car and restarted it, and the power steering came back on. Within a 2 mile span, this occurred twice. I asked my kids and husband how often this happens, and it's every time the car is driven. If my husband had trouble steering when the power steering stops, it must be even worse for my 2 girls. If this occurs on the highway, there could easily be a serious accident. I looked online and numerous complaints have been made about this problem. There was a service bulletin for it but it needs to be a recall. I read that mazda3 and Mazda 5 cars are being recalled for power steering failure. Why haven't chevy Malibus been recalled? please help.

34 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

Clunking noise at low speeds when turning steering wheel- either direction. Power steering failed today - in reverse. Managed to park car in driveway and (per previous complaints I googled) after 20 minutes I went out and started the car & the steering wheel was somewhat normal but I felt a slight catch when I turned wheel either direction. No service has been done on the steering yet by me. I have an extended warranty - covers the power steering pump - but not the shaft.
