Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 8 problems related to transmission not engage (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact had not experienced a failure prior to having the vehicle repaired for a manufacturer recall concerning the 4 wheel drive function ability. Also, the engine control module was reprogrammed. Shortly after the repair by the dealer, the vehicle manually shifted into 4 wheel drive when in reverse or drive and would not disengage in inclement weather. In addition, the vehicle idled roughly, shuttered, and then stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for further inspection and the battery was replaced. The dealer stated that there was a faulty ground connection under the dash panel. The ground surface was cleaned and the wiring was re-grounded. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.

Happened driving home after buying vehicle. Transmission shifts hard from a complete stop as 1st gear was being engaged. Drove it until break in period was over and took it back to the dealer were the transmission body and valves were replaced. Now getting more problems with the transmission shifting between gears at a speed of 35-45 mph. Transmission disengages and I have no power going to the wheels, like it shifts to neutral for a 5-10 seconds. This will cause an accident if transmission does not reengage while driving in traffic. You will get rear ended.

Transmission needs to be replaced. After highway driving, the transmission will not engage in 2nd or 3rd gear. No error message or warning appears. This nearly caused an accident when the transmission failed at an intersection. I bought the truck in July to assist w/rescues and cannot put the animals or myself at risk. Chevrolet is aware of this issue; the local chevy dealership said they have seen it often; my personal mechanic has seen it often. Chevrolet asked me to take it to their dealership and have the diagnostics run. $90 and confirmation transmission needed. Now they want me to pay $2,500 to have a new transmission put in by their dealership, then discuss any reimbursement. This is a very dangerous "known" defect and Chevrolet does not guarantee the replacement transmission will not do the same. It appears a death will be required before Chevrolet takes responsibility, then they can deal with a class action suit.

Received letter from gm regarding possible engine light coming on. When it did come on several times, went to dealer, and they replaced fuel pressure regulator on gm. A month later, at freeway speeds transmission failed and went to neutral, almost causing an accident with several trucks. Limped home after several occurrences of same thing by stopping and totally restarting and moving on until another failure. (approx. 15 times) went to dealer and gm now replaced the injector pump assembly. Brought the vehicle home, parked it for 5 days and then started it up the transmission wouldn't engage and then suddenly "clanked" into gear and then disengaged into neutral. Stopped engine, restarted and then drove to dealer, who said gm wouldn't participate, saying it was now transmission problem and no longer warranted. The dealer installed a drain back kit in the transmission at my expense. The dealer had a bulletin from gm regarding this very problem. It is my contention that the engine (fuel pump regulator, injector pump assembly) problem put exsessive pressure upon the transmission and the computer kicked it into neutral causing the failure of the drain back, requiring a modification kit. I contacted gm, explained the situation and they flatly refused to participate in the repair.

I have a 2000 Silverado with 4. 8 & a manual transmission. Started hearing noise with clutch disengaged & in neutral. Dealer says bearings in trans are shot . Vehicle has only 67,000 miles. I've changed the fluids religiously on this vehicle never towed anything. I never heard of a manual trans failing this early. Dealer says that sometimes you get a bad one.
Vehicle rolled back while in park. Truck was found against the house with the doors locked and still in park. Emergency brake is typically engaged because it is parked on a slope drive but it was found disengaged. While being towed it also rolled while loading onto the tow truck. Again, it was in park with the emergency brake engaged. Vehicle was looked at by two separate service departments with no cause found. Damage was done to the truck and the home but since gm could not duplicate the problem we are responsible for all damages. Will most likely get rid of the vehicle (trading it in at same dealer who sold and serviced it) because we do not feel safe leaving the vehicle unattended. Ts.

While traveling 70 mph and without any indication, the transmission disengaged and lost all power. Consumer pulled vehicle over. Vehicle was towed to dealership. Consumer states; repaired three times, and breaks down each time.
The automatic transmission intermittently fails to engage on launch. There is a delay of 1 to 2 seconds before the transmission engages and the vehicle moves. The failed condition appears as if the vehicle is in nuetral and then slams into gear. The failed condition may be that the vehicle is actually trying to launch in 3rd and then down shifts after a delay. This is a potentialy dangerous condition that could result in an accident while crossing traffic or entering traffic. I have found via the internet that many owners of this vehicle are having this problem with both 1999 and 2000 models. This problem is very intermittent and can not be reproduced with regularity. Because the problem can not be reproduced I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer, it would be a waste of time at this point. The dealer will not be able to reproduce the failure. I have experienced the problem 3 times in 3 months and 3000 miles. It is impossible for vehicle owners to get gm to do anything because the problem is so intermittent. Gm has to be aware of the problem from what I have seen on the internet. Please let me know if I can help in any way with your investigation. Thank you in advance for your help.
