1 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/29/2022

I bought this truck in sept 2017 and have had this intermittent problem from the beginning. The first time I noticed the electrical issue was while travelling on the interstate with the cruise control on. When I would use my turn signal to signal a lane change or press the power window switch, the cruise control would go off. This has been reported to the dealer and another repair shop and they were unable to replicate the problem. This electrical issue has evolved over the years to create a significant safety issue. Occasional while driving at slow speed (I have not had this problem occur at highway speed, thankfully) the warning bell and signals would start dinging and flashing error messages. The errors would advise about stabltrak control and power steering assist. The dash lights would flash and the display screen would go blank. Occasionally the truck would die completely. I lost steering control while turning onto my road and almost went into a ditch. Luckily I was going slow (10 - 15 mph) and I was able to stop in time. The truck always restarts once I put it in park and turn the ignition. I took the truck to the dealer and they charged my over $900 to "found low voltage and high resistance from the negative battery cable and replaced it". This did not fix the problem. I have a video of this actually happening and will gladly send it to you. It is a . Mp4 file.

2 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/12/2020

My vehicle was in motion one day and I was driving on the interstate and all power in the truck was gone the radio reset the gauges started to go up and down and the airbag light was flashing and saying service airbag. I figured it was a electrical problem so I got a new battery and it still did it so I I put a new ground wire and it still continued to do it and got all new battery cables and still nothing and when it all resets and I turn it off I have to jiggle the positive wire for it to start.

6 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

Mileage: approx. 43600 twice this past week while driving, both on Wednesday, the electronics completely shut down no engine, no steering, no nothing! electronics returned much like there was an auto-reset breaker. On Friday morning briefly would not start and signaled a perimeter reading. My wife was with me on both occurrences and continued the issue with cliff when the truck was returned without a repair of the issue. Her point was simple, the vehicle could cause a deadly accident. Upon returning home susan researched the internet and found the problem was mentioned with only two mentions of potential repairs that made little sense; I. E. , a fly wheel sensor, the negative battery cable assembly, a repair of g218 ground, etc .

7 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

At start up the radio and info screen on dash between the rpm and speedometer was reset as if the negative battery cable was removed and replaced. The power steering died out later on a turn onto my block and was on and off as it jerked out of my hands while parallel parking. Start up the next day and the reset was back with the wheel free to turn for now. I haven't moved the truck for fear of the steering going out again. Truck has 44,450 miles.

9 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/23/2018

When turning into parking lot today at low speed, electrical system went crazy, screen flashed power steering failure, stabilitrac failure, doors locked and unlocked and engine died. Restarted and was fine driving forward and repeated failures again when turning to park in parking space. It is fortunate this was in a parking lot and not on interstate or other main road or while turning at a traffic light. There was a recall in fall of 2017 for power steering that was repaired at dealership upon notification. When I contacted the dealership, the service department supervisor advised it sounded as if there was a poor connection of a battery cable. The battery was replaced just a few months ago. It seems to me that if a it's a battery cable connection issue, then gm has another safety problem they need to address since I've read numerous other complaints with the exact same issues, and in my opinion, there must be a manufacturer defect if battery cables just come loose for no apparent reason. This needs to be fixed before someone is very seriously injured or killed as a result of this dangerous condition. Gm seems to be aware of the other reported issues and has taken no measures to correct it. Maybe all of us who own their vehicles should file a class action lawsuit and they might get off their a$$ES and do something! I certainly won't hesitate to file a civil complaint for product liability if a family member is hurt as a result of their continued negligence.

10 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

My 2014 Chevrolet silverado is at a gm dealership for the 4th time due to complete electrical and engine shutdown while driving. The issue started during low speed sharp turns but now is happening while driving the vehicle straight. Complete loss of use occurs and the vehicle will not come back on for 10 minutes after the occurrence. Power steering recall has not resolved it, ground wire tightening has not resolved and main battery cable replacement has not resolved. Dealership response is they don't know what the issue is caused from. I am very concerned this complete loss of power while driving will cause a severe collision and no recall or resolution has been created by gm.

11 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

The service theft deterrent system warning came up on my dashboard and the vehicle wouldn't start. Removing the key and opening the door reset it. This happened Friday, March 30th. On Sunday April 1st, a similar event occurred, except this time, after getting the car started I drove about 1/4 mile and the vehicle lost all brake/steering support and then the engine cut off, leaving me to try bringing the vehicle to a stop myself (which thankfully I did). I took the vehicle to the dealership first thing on Monday, April 2nd, and they ran tests and found a service bulletin saying to replace the negative battery cable and the junction box. Being a service bulletin only though, it is not covered by the powertrain warranty and would cost $675. Being that this is a safety issue since it cuts all power while someone is driving, I feel this to be unfair.

12 Battery Cable problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/15/2017

While driving at highway speeds, truck had massive electrical issues which caused the transmission to downshift to 2nd gear. I almost lost control. While this was happening, the door locks cycled on and off over and over as well as the door chimes coming on constantly. Hvac defaulted to full heat from air conditioning mode. Stabilitrack systems showed inoperative as well as abs system. The rapid downshift from cruise to 2nd gear caused tires to lock up. I almost lost control. If it would have been wet or slippery, I would not have been able to maintain control. The vehicle engine revved to 4-5 thousand rpm, as it downshifted and my speed dropped like I was locking the brakes. I could have been rear ended and the deceleration came on with no brake lights, as it was happening with the transmission rapid downshift. I contacted gm via their chat line, reference 8-3312054896. They told me it was 8 years old and bought over-seas so I was out of luck for help with repairs. It is presumably caused by faulty battery cables. This condition is reported repeatedly on the internet I. E. Youtube amazon etc. These parts are not normal wear and tear components and since they cause massive safety related control issues their manufacturing quality is in question. I want to report this issue to help prevent someone else possibly having an injury to their loved ones because of a known condition that could be repaired with a 125. 00 part. I took it to the dealer buckalew chev in conroe TX. And they said it was the battery cables. I have that invoice. I have the transcript from the initial chat with gm.

13 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

Experiencing sporadic issues with my trucks electrical system. What will happen is that as I'm driving down the road (doesn't matter what speed), I will hear a loud "pop" (sounds exactly like a desktop computer losing power) and then my dashboard/monitor screen will go dark and after a split second everything come back on. The dashboard will flash on and off for a few more seconds. About every third time this happens, if I park the car and try to restart it it won't turn over. In these instances, I can hear current cycling through my power door lock switch along with an electric clicking noise that won't stop. If I let the truck sit for 15 minutes or so, I can get the truck to restart. I have had to have it towed a couple of times because I could never get it to turn over. This problem first occurred when the truck was 3-4 years old and still under warranty. They couldn't find the issue and didn't replace any parts. Now all the repairs are coming out of my pocket. I've replaced the battery a couple times thinking I had a faulty battery. Later I replaced the battery cable thinking this was the cause and most recently replaced the fuse box. In all instances, the problem would go away for anywhere from 3-6 months and then reappear. As I said it is very intermittent with no consistency to it whatsoever. My truck has never died while driving when this has occurred, although I'm scared to death it will do so and I'll lose all power. My brother-in-law is a master mechanic for a local dealership and it has him completely stumped. He's read through all the TSB's, checked on-line blog's, etc. As well as doing his own technical troubleshooting, but cannot pin down the exact issue. At this point we've resorted to replacing the most likely parts and hoping for the best. As I said I replaced the fuse box about 4 months ago and the problem resurfaced today.

14 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/30/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While turning right at 5 mph, the engine stalled, the brakes failed to slow down the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn, and the vehicle lost power except for the esc indicator and a warning chime sounded. The failures recurred as the contact turned the vehicle to the left and the steering wheel also spun independently to the right. The vehicle was taken to jessup auto plaza in cathedral city, CA where it was diagnosed that the battery cable failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case for potential repurchase. The VIN was included in manufacturer recall number: n172085440. The approximate failure mileage was 22,800.

15 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/04/2017

After driving the truck for an hour and half I pulled into a parking lot, as I was turning to go down an aisle to park the truck interior lighting on the dash dimmed and the power steering died enough to jerk the steering wheel back and forth while turning. This almost caused me to hit another vehicle since I had no steering. I let the truck sit for a minute and then drove to an empty section of the parking lot and done a few slow figure eights seeing if the issue would happen again. After nothing happened I proceeded back to the parking area and again as I was pulling into a parking space the truck seemed to be losing power and the steering wheel was jerking out of my had uncontrollably to the point I could no longer steer the truck. The screen on the dash said it was caused by traction control but the ground was dry and paved. I again let the truck sit for a minute and was then able to park. After shopping I was able to drive to another stop and then home without any issues. When I was backing down my driveway an error message came up on the screen saying the backup safety devices were unavailable and the light on the dash started dimming again. The steering did not act up during backup mode. The dealer said there was a service bulletin out about the issue related to low voltage codes which they said my truck showed. They said the battery tested fine and Chevrolet would not let them replace anything since they could not reproduce the issues. They did say they were replacing the negative battery cable though but would not say why they were replacing it.

16 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

Since 05/02/2016 I have been dealing with crazy electrical problems. It started with head lights dimming at random times. Then driving down the road at 55mph with cruise control on, activite turn signal. When turn signal is activated the cruise control would cut off. Simulated 4 times to ensure there was a problem. Continued driving. At 30 mph the air conditioning turned off, all dashboard lights & radio turned off but engine stayed running, 45 seconds later everything turned back on. At this time the wife freaked out & asked to park, scared for her safety & my own. Pulled forward to parallel park, went to put the vehicle in reverse. Before reverse was initiated the truck threw multiple warning lights (service stablitrak, assisted steering, etc). The dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. The steering wheel violently jerked & locked up. Then the engine cut off. Put the truck in park, turned key & started right back up with no warning lights, no low voltage indication and no problems. GMC dealership could not replicate the problem & returned the vehicle to me within 2 days. This happened again on 07/05/2016. This time it was sent to Chevrolet. They reprogrammed the steering wheel position sensor & checked the security of the wire harness. 07/11/2016 the vehicle locked up & shut off again in a starbucks drive through. This time locking myself & my family in the truck for 3 minutes. When ignition was turned, truck would not start, no lights would come on either. The truck acted dead. This time Chevrolet replaced gas pedal. 10/31/16 the truck shutoff & locked up again. This time I took video to prove my case in hopes it would help the dealership. They tested battery and cables. 12/19/2016 it happened again & also smelt burning. Chevy replaced alternator cable & negative battery cable. Could not smell burning. 01/10/17. Engine fire caused by alternator and battery cable.

17 Battery Cable problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/27/2016

I purchased the vehicle June 2016 with 32k miles on the odometer. August 2016 at 35k miles while driving at 55mph, the entire electrical system shut down 4 times within 2 miles. As I turned into my driveway, the electrical system shut down again along with the ability to control the vehicle. The steering wheel jerked violently and the vehicle stopped just short of hitting my mailbox. All functions were dead at this point. I turned the key to the off position and back on and the vehicle started as if nothing happened. 3 days later on a family outing, after parking the vehicle in a parking space at a theme park, my wife had forgotten her theme park mug, so we walked back to get it. When I tried to unlock the vehicle using the remote key entry, the vehicle would not unlock. I used the key to manually unlock the vehicle and noticed the courtesy light was not on when I opened the door. I then tried to start the vehicle and it would not do anything. It had no power as if the battery was dead. After spending the day in the theme park with friends, we were going to get a ride home due to the vehicle not starting. I told them lets try to start it again and see if it will do anything. It started as if nothing happened. I took the vehicle to the dealer the following day and they said it was a negative battery cable. They kept the vehicle for a week and said the problem had been fixed. 2 weeks later, the vehicle started the same erratic process. The electrical components shut down and the steering wheel jerked violently at the same time. The service stabilitrak light came on and that was while driving in a public parking lot. If this happens on a highway or interstate, someone is going to get seriously or fatally injured. I also have video of the erratic behavior. A person has no control of a gm vehicle with this same issue and gm is placing lives at risk.

18 Battery Cable problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/05/2016

Vehicle, which I had just bought used from a dealership, died while in motion repeatedly on both a highway and on a street after being driven for a period of time. Did not occur during test drives or during inspection. Instrument panel lights, gauges and door locks operated erratically before vehicle suddenly stopped. Would not promptly restart. Took several attempts before it started. Chevrolet dealership had vehicle for over a day and could not duplicate the electrical problem. My search on google and youtube indicates that there is a common problem with corrosion of the battery cables, - just "google" 2007 silverado electrical problems and you will see what I mean. Why the chevy dealership could not or would not diagnose this I don't know. I replaced all the necessary battery cables and the problem has not reoccurred. In my opinion, this is a known and common fault that chevy should be well aware of and the fix readily available.

19 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

While driving on the freeway, the entire electrical system in the vehicle shut down momentarily and came back. The entire dashboard went dark, headlights turned off, door locks cycled up and down, and radio turned off and back on. Brought vehicle to dealership and they diagnosed the problem as battery cables needing to be replaced as there was high resistance. Searching online for similar statements shows that many other people are complaining of this same problem. This is a major safety issue as it could cause loss of control of the vehicle. Working with gm customer service on this, they will not pay for the repairs which totaled $478. 95. This is not a part that should fail after less than 5 years. Please see these links for others complaining of same issue. . Read more...

20 Battery Cable problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

Mega fuse after purchasing my vehicle, I started having electrical problems with the instruments and headlights going haywire. I had to pull over and when I put my truck in park the engine would die. I would have to pull on the negative battery cable to fix the problem. After changing out the factory mega fuse the issue went away. Ball bearing issue: the ball bearing on the front driver side has gone out twice in over a one year period. I use my vehicle for normal transportation work/home. I am having to have the bearing changed again. This is a safety issue.

21 Battery Cable problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/04/2012

While driving with cruise control on at highway speeds, the traction stability light came on along with brake light. The door locks activated and all dash backlighting went out. After shutting off engine, all electrical power shut off to include the clock on the radio. I checked battery connections and after wiggling the positive battery cable, the power came on. The clock was set to 12:00, and the a/c was reset to 74. This was the first incident. After several incidents, my truck actually stalled in an intersection and I had to stop in the road to adjust the battery cable. I have had approximately 20 incidents of similar nature, each time with increasing symptoms. At one point, the warning light for the a/c overheating came on. Also, the battery and cables become extremely hot, and stay hot after engine shutdown for several hours until the cable is readjusted. I have read several forums looking for a solution, and have concluded the most likely source is a failing positive battery cable. In the forums, it seems that the cable was redesigned in 2007, and has affected all vehicles through 2013. This poses a threat to overheating battery connections which could lead to a fire, and threat of a vehicle collision.
