4 Wiring problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

1 owner. Never driven on salted roads(south louisiana). Live 100 miles from coastline, not in a saltwater environment. Or driven in water other than rain. Cruise control dropping out, automatic transmission not shifting when supposed to. Traction control dropping out, service messages cycling in and out--traction control, stabilitrac , anti-lock brakes, check engine light, red brake light comes on and off. Speedometer going crazy. Brought vehicle to gm dealer for inspection/repair. Cause- internal failure of ecbm-electronic brake control module, due to corrosion in the connector due to water intrusion. Had to replace the module, and the vehicle chassis wiring harness. Total repair was $1,830. 39 for parts and labor. The dealer reported to me that the design/installation location of this module is flawed, and a faulty design allowed moisture to get into the module thru the connector. Which also resulted in the wiring harness connections into the ecbm also becoming corroded. . Dealer also told me that this faulty design will eventually become a recall, and for me to keep my invoice of this repair, as to be able to claim a reimbursement for this repair.

The driver's side headlamp wiring is faulty. I have continually replaced headlamps, only to have them need replacing in a month or two.

6 Wiring problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

Traveling at all speeds the stabilitytrak will turn off when hitting the breaks. Simultaneously, the truck will lose quickly lose power and then it comes back on. I have taken the truck to get fixed multiple times at a chevy dealership and each time they come up with something new that could be the problem. I have called and make 2 complaint to gm/chevy (8-3966798693 and 9-5684003780) both times the manufacturer have done nothing for me. I did the recall back in 2017 for this problem and that did not work. I have had grounding wire work done, a new battery put in, a new engine fuse block with wiring harness, and recently a new steering column. Nothing has worked.

7 Wiring problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

Stability control alarm blinking ,traction control alarm blinking,, speedometer going erratic, brake lite staying in alarm, cruise control dropping out, power loss temporarily. Shifting between gears (auto xmission) was very rough. This was an electrical system that grew steadily worse. Gm dealership had to replace the ebcm, and the chassis wiringharness. Severe corrosion. Vehicle never driven in salted roads, never flooded, never driven thru water. The location of the ebcm is poorly designed. Dealership said they have never seen a module this corroded,as it was in pieces when they pulled and opened it. I waited 4 months to get it fixed, as a early mechanic saw an electrical fault, but couldn't pinpoint it as it wasn't staying in fault. He said it needed to get worse before it could be properly diagnosed. Had to bring to dealer for repair as it got progressively worse. Cost me $1878. 36 to get repaired.

8 Wiring problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

Chevrolet used extremely thin wires and the wiring harness that goes through the door hing break apart inside the insulator causing the airbag sensor in the driver door not to work. Other people with same truck have had same issue. It is a very dangurous issue and a very expensive issue to have fixed. This should not be happening wire you not break inside the insulator.

9 Wiring problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

I have been dealing with transmission issues since I bought the vehicle. There is dirt and sand inside my brake lights, rust under the seats, dirt and rust under the dash, brake calipers are horribly rusted and painted to be covered up by the selling dealership, wiring issues continue to arise and repaired by my mechanic. Trailer brake system is now failing. Steering is having issues now, either bad tie rods or bad cv joints. I have had complete loss of electronic power steering in the past. I suspect this vehicle was in a flood and the dealership covered it up. I have been dealing with this since January of 2019, and I have text records starting April 7th 2019. The vehicle was purchased from a family member's dealership and I bought an extended warranty. They have been less than helpful. Seeking legal help is my last resort.

10 Wiring problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

Cruise control will shut off when using turning signal or rolling up windows. It is very dangerous in busy interstate traffic. Service stabli track and steering assist reduced will come up on display. Power steering is intermittent when turning. Headlights flicker when turning signals are used. Truck will completely shut down for a split second while driving then everything comes back on, complete loss of control when this happens. When knob for headlights is turned from auto to on position the dash and instrument panel gets dim and stabli track and reduced steering assist message comes on. Rear passenger door will not lock using fob, sometimes I will have to hit the unlock button multiple times before door will unlock after lock has been manually pushed down. Passenger seat belt ding is also intermittent, sometimes it will not work at all. My truck just now started having all of these issues at the exact same time. We drove from texas to kentucky and back to texas and these issues all started during this trip. It is not safe for my family, I have always bought Chevrolet and currently own this truck and a tahoe but they may be my last. All bulbs are good, all fuses and relays are good. Truck now has 66000 miles on it. Battery was replaced around 59000 miles. Seems to be a wiring or ecm (computer) issue to me. I see many complaints similar to mine but yet no recalls have been issued for my VIN number.

11 Wiring problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the vehicle was stationary, the defroster became inoperative. Goodyear performed an assessment of the vehicle during routine maintenance and stated that the wiring harness within the defroster housing had melted. Bob valenti Chevrolet (3050, 72 jerry browne road, mystic, connecticut 06355, (860) 536-4931) was made aware of failure and diagnosed that the blower motor, wiring harness, and transistor were faulty and needed to be replaced. 12 Wiring problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

My blower motor wiring harness at the resistor lightly caught on fire today. I was diving on the highway with the fan on full blast. No one was hurt and I managed to stop and turn off the truck info time to stop further damage. The resistor was extremely hot you the touch after. This is a common problem that I've read about all over. My VIN did not however pull a recall. . .

13 Wiring problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

Randomly my truck will go in engine power reduced and top speed is 35 mph. It happened a couple of time on the interstate. The code that pops up is p2135 and I looked it up on line. The internet is full of forms and videos about this problem. Everything on the internet points to the throttle position sensor. I've replaced it twice and replaced the throttle body twice and wiring twice. I put truck in the shop three times. Spent a good $1500 trying to fix the problem and it still pops up every couple of months.

14 Wiring problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

The wiring harness for the rear passenger tail lights has corroded. Point of corrosion is the "cup or socket" that the tail light bulb is inserted into. Corrosion failure occurred at 28 months of ownership of the new vehicle. Socket did not have any type of corrosion preventing dielectric grease present as I have typically seen in tail light connections. Unfortunately, since the vehicle was at 40,000 miles it was considered out of warranty and all expense for repair of defective manufacturing. Dealership also recommended the replacement of a socket with field soldiering rather than replacement of the entire wire harness which seems like a solution to create more corrosion issues. Corrosion caused the loss of tail lights on the rear passenger side of the vehicle which could have resulted in an accident due to lack of warning/indication from vehicles behind.

16 Wiring problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/02/2017

Failure of cruise control and trailer braking system while braking. Issue was a break in the wiring harness under the dash causing a short. Broken wire still had insulator in tact as if new. This seems to be an issue due to type or undersized wire as this is the second harness failure on the truck.

18 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

Noticed upper brake light on while parked in driveway. Truck wouldn't start. Truck wouldn't accept an extended jump. Truck towed. Mechanic found the under dash fuse box melted in two different places. Truck needed new fuse box. Plugs and interior wiring harness. No modifications to the electrical system had been made to this vehicle. Parts have been saved. $1,745. 00 to fix. I see many reports of electrical fires in gm, chevy products on the web with no apparent action to force a fix. Vehicles are being destroyed, severely damaged, people and property endangered because they are apparently using cheap, inferior grade products. People would not mind paying a few dollars more to ensure they won't die in a fire or have their house burn down. I'm not a fan of government regulations but if these company's won't voluntarily do the right thing perhaps the government has to mandate specific gauge wiring and contacts. Thanks.

19 Wiring problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

Door locks stick when hot outside and break lights won't go off. . I have been pulled over by police and given a warning to get lights fixed. . I took it to a repair shop they think it could be the wiring harness or don't know what is causing it. . But it's dangerous to drive.

20 Wiring problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

When the truck is cranked and at idle and in motion the headlights and all panels blink. The light on the panels do not completely go out but it dims. The headlights have went completely out a few times while in motion. When the interior light is on it also blinks and dims. At times the radio goes haywire and starts going through all of the stations. The headlight connectors have been replaced and we noticed that the wiring that goes to the headlights is very brittle and where the connectors plug into the bulb were burnt and the prongs on the bulb were also burnt and melted. This has been going on for some time and we can't seem to find what is causing all of these problems. The driver side window, door, and mirror panel only halfway work. Sometimes the driverside window will go down and sometimes it won't the driver side panel will not control the passenger side mirror, lock, or window either. The passenger side window and lock panel will not work either.

21 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

Bundled wiring under dash started smoldering while vehicle was parked in driveway, had been sitting for about 48 hours. I pulled much of the dash apart to make sure there wasn't an active fire. While being repaired at local chevy dealer. Wiring actually caught fire burning the repair techs hands. When I asked what could have caused this, they just told me that sometimes it happens and they don't know why.

22 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

While driving at any speed would roll down window and head lights would dim. Blower for heater and defroster would cut in and out. There was a distinct odor when using defroster and then it quit all together. This was during winter which made the truck un-drivable until repaired. 10-14 day after the blower motor was replaced the oil sending unit stopped working and all warning lights were lite up. The dealer ship stated that it was a know issue with the wiring harness and needed to be replaced which was not cheap. They did say even though it is a know issue that we were responsible for the cost of repair.

24 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

The service airbag light came on,and I had it checked, was told the front sensor was bad. Called the chevy dealer and was told they only have to be replaced if in a crash. I've had wiring problems and a recall on the blower wiring. I think Chevrolet should have to check into the problem, because on the internet there are a number of owners with the same airbag problem. Sounds like a safety issue to me. Chevrolet said for a price they will check it. They make it sound like it's the owner's fault, and the more money they can get the better. Sounds like their motto is (money before safety) something needs to be done to help the consumers.

25 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/23/2011

The a/c fan quit. It smelled like burning plastic. Luckily I was able to exit the freeway safely and I have enough electrical knowledge I was able to determine a way to continue safely. It was a fire hazard waiting to happen inside the cab. The resistor was extremely hot and the wiring harness was melted. There were no blown fuses. I pulled fuses to reduce the chance of fire. I have previously attempted to deal with the Chevrolet dealer nearest dfw, TX airport and gm over my bad engine block (also reported on this forum) and . . . . . . . . So I am out the money for this fire hazard too. This is the last gm product I will ever own.
