The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the tailgate unintendedly opened unintentionally while there were items stored in the trunk. Upon coming to a stop at the red light, another driver alerted the contact that the tailgate was open. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, and the tailgate was closed. The vehicle was driven to the residence and was parked and turned off; however, the contact became aware that the tailgate had opened while the vehicle was turned off. The contact disconnected the tailgate switch to prevent the battery from draining. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the tailgate switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in gm campaign number: n232426400. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my 2024 Chevrolet silverado that resulted in a child being locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside the car. On March 25 2026, after parking and turning off the vehicle, I exited the driver’s seat with my key fob inside my purse, which remained in the front of the vehicle. I then walked around to remove my daughter from the back seat. During that time, she climbed into the front seat and pressed the interior door lock button, locking all doors. My daughter has autism and is not able to follow instructions or unlock the vehicle on command. As a result, she was locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside, and I was unable to gain access from the outside. The vehicle did not prevent the lock from engaging, nor did it allow me to open the door despite the key being inside the vehicle. This situation required emergency assistance (911) to safely remove her from the vehicle. I understand that many vehicles have “lockout prevention” features; however, in this case, the system did not account for a vulnerable occupant inside the vehicle. Allowing the vehicle to be locked from the interior while the key fob is inside—and without any external override—creates a significant child safety risk. I am requesting that Chevrolet review this design behavior as a potential safety issue, specifically: - why the vehicle allows interior locking when a key fob is detected inside - why there is no external override to unlock the vehicle when the key is present - whether a software update or safety feature enhancement can address this risk this is not just a convenience issue—it is a safety hazard that can lead to dangerous outcomes, especially for children or individuals with disabilities. Please confirm receipt of this concern and advise whether this issue has been previously identified or is under review.

The electronics freeze up and sometimes the stereo turns off and won't come back on. The transmission perks and then revs up then hits gear and kicks real hard. The transmission feels like it's going to vibrate out from under the truck going down the road at certain speeds!.

The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of 4wd capability and transmission communication while driving. The dealership diagnosed a defective battery ground cable. Gm has issued customer satisfaction program n252515590 for this exact issue, but they are refusing to cover my specific VIN despite the truck exhibiting the exact failure described. This defect causes the vehicle to lose critical powertrain functions, posing a safety risk on the road.
Tailgate opens on its own after parking truck. No buttons inside or on the key fob are pressed and the tailgate randomly opens. Caused the battery to drain as well.

Tailgate unexpectedly opened when driving. Switch on and off when parked and drained battery.
I’d like to report a serious, ongoing safety concern with my 2019 Chevrolet silverado (5. 3 v8 53,028 mi) since Dec 2025. Over the last 4 months, I have experienced at least 20 engine failures/loss of power, with no engine light illuminated after restarting truck. These failures result in a complete loss of power, including steering and braking, posing a significant risk of a crash. Chevy said it would be hard to diagnose with no engine warning light on. Feb 24th, engine failure, warning light stayed on and towed truck to chevy. Truck on standby, repaired Mar 10th, replacing 2 oxygen sensors per diagnostics. Picked it up on March 11th, but engine shutdown again the same day and 4 additional failures while driving in my neighborhood, making the truck undrivable. I reached out to chevy service supervisor, juliana, but have received no response for the last 10 days. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect as it poses a severe safety risk. Thank you for your urgent attention.
The tailgate is clicking continuously and dropping at random moments when I’m stationary as well as driving. It is draining the battery and leaving me stranded with zero power or resources for help.
Truck will shut off then on rapidly when turning left. Alert messages on sensors come on and off as lights flicker on and off. Radio screen will go black randomly or not turn on. Ac shuts off and on randomly as well. Very dangerous while driving and you are about to turn left if truck shuts down. This happens at least once a week.

While driving with my trailer my tailgate opened by itself and hit my trailer when backing up. There is a open recall for a faulty switch that may allow the tailgate to open unexpectedly. I called my dealer and said they could only replace the faulty switch and not my damaged tailgate. It was due to the faulty switch that led to my tailgate getting damaged. I believe this switch and my tailgate need to replaced.
My vehicle frequently loses all cabin sound, including the radio, audible turn signal, and forward/rear collision and lane departure warnings. When this occurs, the cabin is completely silent. The loss of radio audio is an inconvenience, but the loss of safety feature alerts is a clear hazard. My dealership has suggested this may be related to a recent software update; however, there is no apparent correlation between the updates and when the issue occurs.

Component involved: visibility/backup device, electrical system, forward collision avoidance ?description of incident: the android 12-based infotainment system in this vehicle is suffering from a progressive hardware/software failure that creates a severe, multi-layered safety hazard. ?critical driver distraction: the system has become largely non-responsive, requiring me to repeatedly press on-screen buttons to perform basic functions. This forces me to divert my eyes and manual attention away from the road for periods far exceeding 2 seconds. This "visual-manual distraction" is a direct result of the system's inability to process commands, making safe operation impossible while attempting to use vehicle controls. ?visibility failure (fmvss 111): the failure impacts the digital rearview mirror and the safety camera feeds. These cameras frequently glitch, lag, or freeze, depriving me of necessary rear and surround visibility while moving. This is a violation of federal safety standards for rearview visibility. ?systemic electrical failure: this "slowly dying" system is also interfering with the vehicle's communication bus, causing the power door locks to malfunction. This creates an entrapment or security risk. ?I have reported these issues to general motors/onstar. Despite their awareness of these "electrical gremlins" and the existence of limited service updates (like program #n242435631), no permanent fix has been provided. This is a systemic safety defect that requires a mandatory recall to prevent accidents caused by driver distraction and visibility loss. The system needs updating to android 14. It is android 12 now. This is the fix. Gm want me to pay $250 for a hour for a macanic to update it. Gm was updating over the air, but it was causing the battery on the vehicle's to prematurely die under warranty. It was affecting their bottom line.
Battery keeps going dead 4 batteries in 4 months think it is caused by power tailgate release.
When entering traffic vehicle wheels locked up and engine stopped, when restarted vehicle was in limp or reduced power mode, check engine light is on, message on screen and in app identifies transmission and electrical problem. Anti slip was engaged automatically upon restart.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet silverado1500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle in the driveway, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was jump-started, and the instrument panel was black. The contact was unable to see the speed, fuel gauge, and other important information. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with battery failure. The battery was replaced; however, the instrument panel was still black. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The mechanic informed the contact that when the vehicle was started, the battery charge immediately started to drain. The mechanic was contacted and reached out to the manufacturer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
The rear tailgate started opening when I opened my doors and also when driving down the road. I would pull up and tail gate was wide open. I was okay but thankfully nothing in the back came out and hit vehicles behind me. No warning lights and anything. Dealership said it’s a faulty tailgate switch. Which 800,000 vehicles were recalled but not mine. Even though it’s the same year as the recalled vehicles. Gm needs to be held accountable for all of them. This was a problem for 3 weeks. Constant dead batteries, jumping vehicle, closing tailgate and causing lights to go crazy. This is a definite safety concern. Had to wait a week to get into dealership for diagnosis. Than over a week for the parts.
On [xxx], my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt caught fire while parked in my residential driveway at [xxx] . The vehicle had been started approximately 10 minutes earlier using the factory-installed remote start system. The vehicle was unattended at the time. My neighbor noticed the vehicle on fire and called 911. The andover fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The fire department indicated the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. The fire appeared to originate in the dashboard and steering column area based on visible damage and fire progression. The vehicle had approximately 60,000 miles and was properly maintained. There were no prior warning lights, messages, or symptoms before the fire. The remote start system was factory-installed and not aftermarket. The vehicle is currently available for inspection by insurance, manufacturer, or investigators at [xxx] . The vehicle is likely a total loss due to the extent of the fire damage. This incident posed a serious safety risk as the vehicle caught fire spontaneously while parked near my home. The fire could have spread to my residence or caused injury if someone had been inside or near the vehicle. The fire department responded, and an official fire report is pending. Insurance claim has been opened and inspection is pending. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The truck is jumpy during stops. I get a low voltage code but the battery is fine I had it checked out. Reduced acceleration has been activated and after I turn the truck off it is fine. The check engine light comes on and turns off on it's on sometimes same day. I know there is a recall on certain 2022 silverados but they told me this one wasn't on the recall. It did have one for the brake system they said.
The tailgate has opened 4 times while I’ve been driving. There was one incident in which an object in the truck bed fell out onto the road. Other drivers are at risk for serious injury or death due to objects falling out. I have read other incidents of this happening online to the Silverado 1500 models however chevy has only issued recalls for the 2500 and 3500 models. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer and they will be inspecting it in the next coming days. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating failure or that my tailgate was open. I’ve provided photo documentation showing me closing the tailgate as well as a photo of the object falling onto the road.
My onstar telematics system has failed. I lost all connectivity with onstar and have no vehicle crash detection, communication and onstar based safety feature available anymore. I took the truck to the dealership and they identified the telematics module as faulty and needs replaced. The onstar system buttons are off and will not turn back one and have been off since 2/18/26.
Driving 30 mph down a city street when heard a pop and vehicle completely lost power at speed. Engine turned off and I coasted to a stop, which was unfortunately at an intersection and due to traffic could not get over safely. All accessories were still on however I could not restart the vehicle or put the vehicle into neutral, which left me stranded in the middle of a busy intersection. Hazards were working intermittently, at best. Had to call local pd to provide traffic control while we disconnected the battery and reconnected it while standing in an intersection. After I was able to get the vehicle restarted it had a check engine light and the onstar app showed transmission, ignition, and engine electrical warnings. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership, where they have had it for 7 days and cannot diagnose an issue and are trying to return the vehicle to me unfixed. They stated they typically would not even try to diagnose it for this long, however I have a case open with the gm executive team.
Hi, I would like to report an issue with my vehicle. The transmmision has been experiencing problems, and the dashboard radio display has been flickering intermittently.
0 audio works in the truck. No audible turn signals, warning chimes, phone calls, onstar. . . Nothing.
Tailgate opening automatically.
My 2021 Chevrolet silverado, with approximately 84,000 miles, experienced a premature and catastrophic transmission failure while driving. The vehicle began to shudder severely and lost its ability to accelerate properly, creating an unsafe driving condition. I was able to get the vehicle to a dealership. The dealership diagnosed a complete torque converter failure requiring a full transmission replacement. Crucially, at no point before or during this failure did the vehicle's onboard diagnostic systems provide any check engine light or warning message. A sudden loss of power and transmission function on a highway is a major safety risk. I believe this is a widespread defect that needs to be investigated before it causes a serious accident.
My Chevrolet silverado has unresolved electronic stability control (esc) issues after recall reprogramming was performed twice under my VIN. The vehicle is shaking, hesitating, experiencing reduced acceleration, and feels like it may stall while driving. The truck is unsafe to operate. Dealer diagnosis is scheduled. Gm customer care advised me to take it to the dealership before escalation. This is a loss-of-propulsion safety concern combined with unresolved esc recall repairs. Vehicle has approximately 130,000 miles. Symptoms include shaking, hesitation, near-stall, and power loss while driving. Esc recall previously performed and still not resolved. Vehicle is drivable but unsafe. Blinking engine light code cylinder 1 misfire. All esc lights on parking brake, traction control.
While driving to work on [xxx] in huntsville al at approximately 55mph. I was using Chevrolet supercruise. I tried turning off super cruise with the super cruise button. It did not turn off, tried pressing cruise control button, nothing, tried the cancel button, nothing, pressed brakes and would not turn off. Truck started slowing in very heavy traffic, it turned hazards on. I was finally able to get it turned off. I have reported to dealer, no surprise they didn't answer, left message at 9 am this morning, no call back. I have made a report to gm. I no longer feel safe putting my family in this truck. This truck has been in shop several times for "service driver assist", no on-star, no cellular data, extremely slow infotainment system and no supercruise available. The truck at last visit for the service driver assist took more than 2 week. I was told a camera and a software update were performed. The issues have persisted. The super cruise event yesterday was the first occurrence of this type. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was driving on the highway and there was a sudden drop in power and hesitation in the engine. I slowed down too quickly on a busy highway and almost got rear ended. I took it to the shop and found out I had to replace the engine due to the cam and lifters were bad. It cost $12,000 to replace a four year engine with 148,000 miles. The time before that this happened, I had to replace the engine wiring harness.
2021 silverado tailgates often stop working due to a faulty, corroded electronic switch caused by water intrusion. A major 2020-2024 gm recall exists for this, which can cause unexpected opening. Check for corrosion in the tailgate switch/connector, a pinched wiring harness, or check for a blown fuse. This is the 2nd time my truck is at ganley chevy in cleveland ohio. They already fixed 1 rotted wire due to corrosion. And now having same issue again that tailgate won’t open. They told me approximately 1000. 00 to find and maybe fix the problem. This truck should be included in the recall as to it falls under the year of the issues and that it’s the same exact issues as listed again they have my truck in shop and I feel my truck falls under the recall proximity of said items.
Vehicle has electrical issues with headlamps flickering and power steering loss (which is electronic) at lower speeds. Power and radio intermittently cut out momentarily and on occasion a "stabilitrac loss" warning flashes. Looking online, many consumers experience this issue which appears to be due to faulty ground or battery connections and many have reported complete loss of power at highway speeds resulting in accidents. This appears on several Chevrolet vehicles, but especially on the silverado and GMC sierra 2014-2017 models. I am very surprised a recall has not been issued yet for this very dangerous and potentially fatal issue.

The failure occurred in the rear sliding window defroster electrical system, specifically at the left-side electrical connection of the power sliding rear window. The component overheated and ignited, causing fire damage and shattering of the rear left portion of the window. The vehicle and damaged components are currently available for inspection upon request. The defect resulted in an active electrical fire during normal vehicle operation (remote start while warming up). This posed a serious risk of vehicle fire, injury to occupants, and potential spread to nearby vehicles or structures. As a firefighter, I recognized the danger and immediately shut off the vehicle and ventilated it; without trained action, the incident could have resulted in a total vehicle loss or more severe consequences. Yes. Copeland Chevrolet in hudson, massachusetts inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the damage was consistent with the known defect in the rear sliding window defroster system, consistent with gm customer satisfaction program xxx. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized gm dealership (copeland Chevrolet). No police or insurance inspection has occurred to date. No warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms were present. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning during normal operation while the vehicle was warming up using the factory-installed remote start. This is a known defect acknowledged by gm under customer satisfaction program xxx (which expired in 2022), which described overheating and fire risk in the rear sliding window defroster electrical connection. That program was limited by state and excluded massachusetts, so I was never notified despite identical risk. This same defect is currently the subject of an active safety recall in canada, where it is treated as a fire hazard requiring corrective action. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I just bought this truck off a used car lot certified dealer and I noticed the engine light on then the truck would hesitate to start and I know the battery is dying so I looked it up and I got a recall on 2021 chevy silverado just like mine just wondering why mine is not under recall or why won’t mine get fixed but everybody else is the same year in the same problems can get fixed. I think mine should be fixed.
The dealership has informed me that the radio control module of the vehicle needs to be replaced. The infotainment center which contains the backup camera is no longer functioning.
When my windows are up the heater whines, now yesterday the rear window blew out, I’m being told it is a known issue with the 2015 chevy silverado, I saw it was recalled and fixed in 2020, obviously the fix did not work and now my truck is a fire danger.
