Ignition Switch Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed. The contact stated that when the key was placed into the ignition, the key failed to turn. Ignition switch intermittently stops working. It will cut off while driving city streets and at high speeds and the lock buttons will lock and unlock repeatedly while showing the truck in park, all while going down the expressway. It's terrifying. Sometimes it won't start or do anything. But if I jiggle it then it will start. This has happened multiple times with multiple drivers. I had it diagnosed and did some quick online searches and this seems to be an issue with these trucks.

The failure occurred for approximately one year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (walker bros Buick/Chevrolet, 700 erie street, edimboro, PA 16412), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 250,000.

Ignition switch is bad. It locks up to where the key will need to be turned around and tried again. When taking key out the key hole (at times) stays in the on position and dings as I leave making the assessories function stay on. If key is bumped the key can turn off truck making all power turn off.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 5 mph and making turns, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to paradise Chevrolet Cadillac (27360 ynez rd, temecula, CA 9259 (951) 699-2699) five times for the failure, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed or duplicated. The contact stated that the last time the failure occurred, she informed the dealer that the ignition switch would inadvertently turn to the "off" position. After having driven vehicle a short distance for an appointment, truck would not start an hour later; however, lights came on dash. I waited 10 seconds and tried it again, and it started no problem. Then no problem starting the next time but driving around town the radio start shutting off for about 3 seconds before coming back on. This happened a few times, then as I am driving, the entire electrical system starts going haywire, lights flashing on dash with warning lights & messages going off on dash, then everything but the engine shuts off (dash lights, gauges, radio and a/c), after about 5 seconds everything comes back on. I immediately drive to my mechanic who hooked up the computer to my truck and said it was my ignition switch. He said he could not get me in that day and asked me to bring it back the next day. So the rest of that day I did not have any further problems with it. The next day I took it to my mechanic and got the ignition switch replaced. While the mechanic had my truck for several hours until I could go back to pick it up, he said he started it many times and it appeared to be fixed. So I leave the mechanic shop and go back to work, then get off work 2-3 hours later and my truck will not start. After attemping it 3 times, it started. I drive home which is 10 minutes away and turn the truck off and back on. Only when I attempt to turn the truck on, it will not start. This time nothing happens. . . No clicking sound or any attempts of the engine wanting to start. . . . No lights on the dash like before. It was 2 hours later before I was able to get just lights to come on the dash, then another 30 minutes went by before I was able to get my truck to start. This is day 3 of dealing with it and I drove it to work and back home with no problems. I called mechanic who said sounds like a grounding problem. I said sounds like computer system.

Stopped to get gas. Truck was idling went to shut ignition switch off. Key comes out without locking steering. Went to start truck and when running could pull key out of ignition and still running. Never had this issue with a vehicle before. Ignition switch is does not always turn without jiggling(intermittent). Similar ignition switch not turning without jiggling on my 2007 Saturn vue([xxx]). I researched failures and found to be related to transmission codes caused by ignition switch failure. . . Further research indicates this has been a known defect and gm has a fix listed to its' dealers. . . This problem is not only related to Chevrolet trucks but nearly all vehicles produced by gm. Necessary parts were obtained and repair made. . . . Not done by gm. . . Gm dealer wanted 845. 00 to make repair. . . Part cost 45. 00, rest labor gm also made corrections to the faults during the 2005 model year.
