I have a 2003 chevy Silverado 1500 and I want to report the defects I've noticed with my truck. First of all, the seat belt tends to jam for no reason. I was sitting at the intersection when I tried to lean over and the seatbelt was jammed. I could not move at all. This has happened several times to me and some friends. Another problem is the a/c system. My truck has dual control system and the drivers side will blow hot air while the passengers side blows sold air all while the settings are both in cold air. Turning off the ignition and restarting seems to temporarily fix the problem but within 20 minutes I am back to square one. This problem is extremely common as I have heard many other people complain of the exact same problem. Finally, the other issue is the speedometer. The speedometer seems to work only when it wants too. I had this problem about 2 yrs after I bought it and I experience this more often now. Sometimes other gauges will not work either such as the battery and rpm gauge.
While parked the blower motor for the climate system continued to run. The keys were removed, engine off. Upon discovery I could not turn off the blower. I decided to take it to a shop. Before I could leave the parking lot the cab was full of a thick white smoke. I was able to shut the engine off and disconnect the battery before a fire started. The dealership said it was a common problem. There is no recall on it though as the dealer is not reporting the occurrences to gm so nobody is aware of the frequency. An easy internet search returns many occurrences of similar problems.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, smoke expelled from the instrument panel without warning. Immediately, the driver pulled over to inspect underneath the hood and disconnected the battery. Suddenly, flames erupted from the instrument panel. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. A report was filed. There were no personal injuries or property damage. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to a collision center. The cause of the failure has not been determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that some of the instrument panel indicators were not illuminated. Only the mileage and gear shifter areas were illuminated. The rpm, speedometer, gasoline, and battery gauges were all malfunctioning. All of the lights failed to illuminate when the vehicle was started. The manufacturer stated that there was a recall for this failure; however, the vehicle exceeded the mileage requirement. The manufacturer further stated that they would not be responsible for the repair. The vehicle is currently parked in the driveway and has not been repaired. He believes that the vehicle is unable to be driven because he cannot determine what speed he is traveling. The current and failure mileages were 130,000.
Bought it new, replaced battery in 6 months, have replaced headlights and back lights twice, the truck shimmies while braking, engine light keeps coming on, engine heats up while idling, shall I continue? I have purchased GMC prior to this Chevrolet. I do like the product but GMC has incredible customer service for these types of problems. Chevrolet will not provide you with a loaner and can never duplicate the problem. I hope the truck lasts until my last payment.

The digital instrument display on my 2004 chevy silverado z71w/53k miles quit working. After 5 minutes, the display appeared. The next day, the digital display did not appear for 45 minutes. All analog displays (mph, oil, water, battery) were ok. The proposed class action lawsuit against gm appears related to the analog gauges only. Loss of digital display is also a concern, since transmission gear and any power train, brake, or vehicle warning messages are not visible. My concern is whether the loss of analog / digital display are related, such as a common electrical connector.

Speedometer was working fine then started to speed up when I wasn't. It happen everyday. I try to get my cruise set before it starts so not to get a ticket for speeding. Dealer told me to call gm, who in so many words said I would have to pay for the repair, I don't think that a part like this is not like a battery or tires that wear out over a giving amount of time. Gm should fix the problem at no cost to the owner. I have about 46,000 miles on the truck. Just got the prices last week,$400 to $500 to fix. Lets say it's not fixed yet.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 55 mph, the digital screen module displayed a malfunction message and the steering and brakes locked for approximately 5 seconds. The contact lost control of the vehicle. The engine was still running and the contact pulled to the side of the road. He called the dealer and was advised not to turn off the vehicle, but instead drive directly to the dealer. The weather was not a factor. After numerous visits to the dealer, they stated that the hybrid battery and engine failed. The hybrid control module was replaced and the dealer repaired the hybrid open fuse module. The current mileage was 23,500 and failure mileage was 345.
: the contact stated in the early morning of 8/19/2006, police and witness reports suggested the vehicle veered off the right lane onto the breakdown lane, and then swerved across and off the left side of the road, flipped upside down, impacting a tree on the right side of the vehicle. The road was clear and dry. A witness stopped to render assistance, ran to the vehicle, viewed the situation and returned to another vehicle to call in the emergency. The witness felt and heard two explosions and was unable to get within 10 feet of the wreck due to the extreme heat of the fire. The driver was wearing a seatbelt when death occurred due to the fire. Police and fire department reports were taken. Photos were taken at the impound lot by the contact.
My 2005 general motors product (purchased new) now has 15,600 miles on the odometer, and has had (5) five front end alignments. Each time the toe/camber/and caster , have changed. This product had (2) new front tires replaced by a g m dealer @ 2,800 miles it is still "pulling to the left" and as of two days ago the steering wheel does not lock when the key is removed from the ignition. This vehicle is also on it's(3) third battery,(3) third radio, and the sun roof has leaked water inside cab >directly on my left hand on the steering wheel @ 55 mph. The water is dripping from the sunvisor post directly above steering wheel. I have filed my complaint with the n h t s a . . On oct. 28,2005 reference # 10141129.
