While driving down the road I let off the accelerator to start applying brakes for a red light I was approaching, then the vehicle shut completely off and down shifted hard. After that it restarted a second later but had no power steering and no brakes. At this point I was approaching the red light with no brakes and power of my vehicle, the other traffic had a green light now and was crossing my lane of travel but I was luckily able to make it through the light in between vehicles without causing any harm to myself or others. After making it through the light I was rolling 10mph still helpless but seen a gas station on my right and rolled into their parking lot and drove towards a curb and used the curb to stop my vehicle. The vehicle had the following warning lights and messages: lane change alert system off, brake system failure 62mph top speed, service traction control, service esc, and trailer brakes disabled service required. I then got the vehicle towed to the dealership while still on and in the running position with all the codes still active. The dealer was able to scan the truck in and see the codes but told me they wouldn’t be able to get to it till the following week so they parked the vehicle and turned it off. When they got to my vehicle the following week they sent me a text and said I quote “hey ****** its **** from chevy, I do not have the best news lol he can not get it to act up and there are no current codes he has driven and nothing has happened, as of now there is nothing further he can do”. After receiving that text I called them to just be told they can’t get it to do it again and there is nothing they can do. But I told them I refuse to pick up this vehicle because it had a critical safety issue. This vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, brakes and steering were lost in an intersection. If not diagnosed properly, this poses a threat to life.

Vehicle started and behaved as expected when leaving my home and for a dozen lights or so between my home and place of the incident. While stopped at a red light, the auto stop function shut the truck down as normal. On re-start when getting green light, after releasing brake pressure, the start up was belabored for two turnovers before starting up. As I pulled off the stop with a green light, the dash lights illuminated and display started rolling through system failures, one of which was the brakes system and esc. I cautiously proceeded through my turn to a thankfully quiet intersection as the brakes were completely unresponsive. I had zero brake function. I was able to slowly come to a rolling stop enough to get the truck in park where I turned it off and back on and the brake function returned. I cautiously drove to the local chevy dealer where I was informed that the battery drain pulls from low voltage when it needs extra power for start up. This is utterly terrifying that it is even possible for the battery to start the truck without any brake function. Had this happened just two lights before or after where I was, it would have been a news headline. I could have easily been headed up and over a bridge leading to a catastrophic event at the bottom where I would have been completely unable to stop my truck by any means other than a collision. I would have preferred a dead battery at a red light. Seems a whole lot safer. I'm now stressed beyond measure at the thought of some failure in the future that could lead to another event such as this. My truck is now a nightmare wondering what electrical malfunction is going to put me and/or my wife and daughter in a life or death situation, let alone others on the road. This shouldn't even be an option for the truck to start at the expense of a critical safety function. Not to mention there is no function for the auto start stop system to be deactivated permanently by my choice. I am beside myself and scared to drive.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 multiflex tailgate main tailgate unlock/open button has stopped working. The dealership (marine chevy jacksonville nc)stated that they have had to replace alot of them even on the 1500 series. They are now on back order with no expected availability date. Yes my vehicle is available for inspection. Requires the use of the key fob to unlock. I do not know why it has stopped working is it a wiring issue? if it is a wiring issue it should not go out on a vehicle that is less than 3 years old. Also could this cause other electrical issues.

I have a 22022 refresh Silverado 1500 high country with 12,500 miles that gets a "service transmission" warning and kills the engine leaving it in the traffic. When trying to restart the truck it just keeps flashing errors and can't be restarted for about half hour. This has happened twice to me so far. The codes recorded are in the attached file.
The vehicle began knocking on the freeway and experienced a loss of power. It caused warning lights for the electronic traction control and parking break system to light up.

On June 10th, 2025 the automatic tailgate on my 2023 Chevrolet silverado began opening and closing without reason. This obviously poses a potential safety issue. After investigating, I found that there is a recall on 2020 to 2024 silverados, recall # n232426400. I called penske Chevrolet in indianapolis to schedule a time for them to confirm the tailgate switch short and execute the recall service. I was informed by penske that my specific VIN was not included in the recall. This is not acceptable. Reporting indicates there are a number of other silverado owners in the same position. Please investigate, as the current state of the recall is most certainly not inclusive of all vehicles that are affected. There should be no hesitation by Chevrolet to broaden the recall.
1. The components that failed were the transmission because the vehicle was driving and continued to slow down until it came to a complete stop gradually, and had to be pushed home. And also, there was an issue with the doors unlocking on their own and all windows rolling down by themselves. 2. The safety risk was the issues that happened without any knowledge of any issues at all with the vehicle. And the vehicle could have stopped on the highway, and another vehicle could have run into it, and it could have been a very bad incident. And with the doors unlocking and the windows rolling on their own could be exposed to unsafe environments and possibly theft of the vehicle or harm to the occupants. 3. Had a scan done, which showed the issues that were going on with the vehicle 4. I haven't had a chance to have it taken to the manufacturer because it broke down, and I was waiting for some help to get these issues repaired from the manufacturer. And needed from acc. 5. There wasn't no indicators or lights on when this happened? I was told by a coworker about the windows being down, and with further investigations, I found the doors were unlocked as well, which was done automatically without my control.

The contact owned a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, he observed smoke emanating from the area of the vehicle between the cab and the bed, prompting him and the other occupants to quickly evacuate. Within moments the vehicle caught fire and was engulfed in flames. Local emergency services arrived and were able to extinguish the fire. The contact was informed that fire investigators on scene determined that the fire had appeared to originate in the electricals associated with the seat belt located behind the rear passenger side seat. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was likely to be deemed a total loss by the contacts insurance provider. A fire report was filed. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v814000 (seat belts); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had already been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Truck goes into limp mode several times… fuses pop when it does. . It does it when I drive or hit any slight bump.
To whom it may concern, below is my support statement regarding recurring safety and reliability issues observed in the vehicle over an extended period: 1. Sensor malfunction and resulting damage the front and rear proximity sensors exhibit repeated failures. During reversing, the system issues false warnings when no obstruction is present. Conversely, while driving forward, the system fails to provide warnings when approaching walls, sidewalks, or other fixed objects. These failures have directly contributed to multiple instances of exterior damage, including impact with hard surfaces, as well as damage to tires and rims. 2. Warning system deficiencies the engine warning system has proven unreliable. Significant oil leaks occurred without any corresponding check engine notification. On separate occasions, the check engine light illuminated briefly before extinguishing without resolution. 3. Diagnostic inconsistencies independent diagnostic inspections identified multiple ecm fault codes. However, upon subsequent service visits, these codes were cleared or dismissed without adequate explanation, creating uncertainty regarding the vehicle’s underlying condition. 4. Excessive repair history despite limited use over the past several years, the vehicle has required multiple costly repairs despite being operated only for routine transportation. It has not been utilized in off-road conditions or to its full 4x4 capacity, yet has demonstrated significant and repeated mechanical deficiencies. The issues experienced indicate systemic failures in critical safety systems, monitoring functions, and diagnostic reliability. These unresolved defects have resulted in repeated safety risks, physical damage, and disproportionate maintenance requirements.
Engine started making clicking noise when accelerating. Followed by a large screeching noise. Dash read "shift to neutral and start again" pulled to stop and tried to start. Does not crank at all.

My 2021 silverado has the same issue as the current recall, whereas the tailgate open by itself when the vehicle is operations. This happens when it rains. The first time I noticed it I lost a cooler out of the back of my truck on the interstate highway. The second time it came down when hauling a trailer and cause minor damage to the tailgate. I have since removed the fuse that controls the tailgate. I notified Chevrolet of the issue, but the stated that my truck is not under the current recall.
Electronic brakes lock up during driving. No power going to rear wheels.

Doors automatically lock with the keys in the ignition and running locking in anyone who is still in vehicle who cannot open to door physically. It will also prevent you from entering the vehicle without a second set of keys or other methods of unlocking the door (onstar, locksmith). This could put occupants in danger and exposed to the elements unexpectedly and also place inside children in danger. Diagnosis - keyfob - if battery in keyfob is low, the programming of the vehicle is set to automatically lock even if vehicle is in the ignition and running. When unlocking vehicle with the defective fob, vehicle will unlock, then immediately lock preventing entry. Remedy - replace battery in key fob and truck works as normal.
Electronic tailgate malfunction which drained the battery. Tailgate will open on its on with vehicle off but will not open with key fob or any buttons.
I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 I bought new. It only has 33000 miles on it. Last week I was backing my boat into the shop and the steering wheel jerked back and forth on its own pretty violently and a stabilitrac warning popped up and the radio screen kinda went dead for a second. Then last night I was pulling in a parking space at a restaurant and it did it again. This time it jerked and went dead enough to cut the truck completely off. I had to put it in park and crank the truck again. It actually reset the radios time and date.
Key keeps getting stuck when I put it in park and turn off truck! it’s off and on park but it won’t release the key! this happens every day!.
Shop has had the truck over two months and cannot figure out the problem will not go stuck in limp mode.
I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding a persistent and unacceptable failure with my 2021 Chevrolet silverado trail boss. The vehicle intermittently fails to start due to a recurring “service steering column lock” error. While the key fob still locks, unlocks, and remote starts the truck, the push-to-start system becomes entirely non-functional once inside the vehicle. This defect is not only frustrating — it’s dangerous. My wife has already been stranded twice, once in below-freezing temperatures in January, and again in may, causing her to be late for work and left alone at night in unsafe conditions. A truck purchased for over $60,000, marketed as rugged and dependable, should not be experiencing a critical failure like this at just 48,000 miles. What’s more concerning is that this appears to be a known issue within the gm community, with no official recall despite technical service bulletins (tsbs) acknowledging the problem. Customers are being left with unreliable transportation and no consistent fix. This failure is both a mechanical and safety issue, leaving drivers vulnerable without warning. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect, pressure gm for a formal recall, and ensure corrective action is taken before someone is injured due to being stranded or the failure progressing to more critical steering or ignition malfunctions.
The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly lost electrical power before returning to normal functionality. The contact stated that during the brief failure, the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Experienced a problem with electrical theft deterrent system and it shut the vehicle off while driving. I tried to start the vehicle and nothing happened except it said theft deterrent system. I took the key out tried starting again and it turned over immediately. The dash said theft deterrent and I clicked dismiss but the dash icon (a car with a lock light) remained on. I then drove 11 miles home. I turned on my directional proceeded to brake upon approaching my driveway. As I attempted to turn the steering wheel the vehicle completely shut off. The info system stating theft deterrent active. I lost power steering and brakes. I needed to press the brakes with great force because the vehicle was headed towards the sidewalk and a road sign. Steering was virtually unresponsive. Vehicle stopped as the tires reached the curb and approximately 1 ft from the sign. Placed vehicle in park and started it back up. Pulled into my driveway and the info system stated I need to roll the drivers window down and the up to deactivate. I have checked all battery connections are intact and tight. The battery, starter and alternator were all checked and fine. I have no idea what caused this dangerous behavior. The incident happened on MA rt. 126 988 s. Main st bellingham MA 02019.

I purchased this truck 3/20/2025. I have since realized it wasn't me doing something wrong. The truck hesitates and shakes during shifting upon acceleration from a stop and when putting it in park and attempting to turn the truck off it has a message on the display saying "shift to park" and it will not turn off until you repeatedly restart it and play woth the gear shift to get it to register that it's in park. I have made an appointment to take it to the dealership to be looked at. The truck has 75,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who observed damages to the main wiring harness, due to a failure with the over molding protective shell. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Key will no release from ignition after being placed in park.
When shut off and put in park it will not allow the truck to turn all they way off because it says it’s not in park. I’ve read that there has been several issues with this is the dealer charges anywhere between $900-$1500 to attempt to fix but people are saying it doesn’t. Also there is no dip stick to check transmission fluid. And apparently even ase certified mechanics can’t check the fluid levels.
I was going 70 in the fast lane on the interstate near birmingham, al; when my 2024 silverado lost propulsion, electrical and power steering. I was forced to move 3 lanes over to the emergency lane or wreck off to the left. When it lost propulsion I lost turn signals and power steering. They are going to attempt to fix it, but engines are on backorder. Regardless if it is fixed, the thing almost killed me. There's no way I'm going to be driving that thing. This issue was confirmed at the dealership and no warning lights came up on the screen prior to losing propulsion.

Electronics for hands free stopped working. This part was already replaced once. When backing up, the whole truck shut down. I restarted, it said to roll drivers side window down and up. Truck started up again. Few days later. . . Returning from trip, lost power, windshield wipers came on, electronics in truck started blinking. Pulled over, rolled driver's side window up and down. Started back on road. This has happened numerous times. Whenever I gave it extra gas, asking for power to pass, same thing mentioned above happened. Very stressful! next day, hit a hole, truck totally shut down again. Husband was able to safely coast off road, however, if he had been pulling out at a major intersection, this could have been bad. Warning light that comes with shutdown says "stabltrack issue". I have not seen our dealer service department yet, but plan to very soon. Very unsafe. . . And I love this truck!!!!.
The afm system is a faulty system that starved my lifters of oil and they ended up collapsing causing a flat spot on my cam. The engine code would come up as a misfire but the code is caused by the flat spot created on the cam by the lifter it's a faulty system that cost me $7,000. My 8spd transmission also has a hard shift from 1st to 2nd pushing the vehicle forward and jerking it when it shifts. The dealer and gm said this was natural with this type of transmissions which we now know is a lie.
Vehicle will not make any sounds. There are no warning sounds, no turn signal sound, no radio sound, absolutely no sound from any speaker in the vehicle. This is about the tenth time it has happened. This lasts until the vehicle is turned off, locked, and left alone for about 10 minutes.
Unknown the tailgate keeps opening on its own.
Vehicle has been at dealership multiple times for the same issues and the cant figure it out. Constantly p303 codes. On highway doing 65-70 and truck starts to shutter and drop speed swerving down to about 40mph on highway in traffic. Have to pull to shoulder and restart vehicle.
On 5 separate occasions during the last week my truck steering wheel became difficult to steer while executing a slow turn and then I lost all power almost causing me to crash. After my vehicle stopped I was able to restart it. I took my vehicle to a repair shop where they were unable to find any codes indicating a problem and suggested taking it to a dealer. I was able to find many people posting similar issues online and a service bulletin pit5405c from January 2017. 2015 to 2017 silverados were impacted according to this bulletin. When I contacted the Chevrolet service department they could not find a recall for my vehicle.
Driving on road at approximately 30 mph. All lights on dash came on and car braked suddenly immediately stopping the vehicle in the middle of traffic. Could not release the brake. Car was idling very rough during this time. Turned car off and back on. Brake released but still running very rough. Made it the short trip home. Truck to dealership via wrecker. Brake was again a problem getting on and off the wrecker.
I’m reporting a safety concern involving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 3. 0l duramax diesel engine. The vehicle went into limp mode and died on the side of the road. Aaa installed a new battery, which temporarily restored operation, though the “service charging system” warning remained. I drove it home, let it sit for several days, and then took it to a Chevrolet dealership. Although the warning light had cleared, I brought it in out of caution. The first dealer diagnosed a failed alternator and recommended replacement at a cost of $2,158. 75. I was also told the vehicle was not included in any active recalls related to this issue. Believing the price was high and wanting a second opinion, I went to another Chevrolet dealer. They ran the same diagnostic and found no issue with the alternator or generator, charging only a diagnostic fee. They also said if the alternator had needed replacement, the cost would have been around $1,300. I mentioned to both dealers that I had seen similar alternator/charging system failures recalled on other 2020 silverado models. Online forums and customer complaints suggest that many Silverado 1500 trucks with the 3. 0l duramax are experiencing similar problems, indicating a potentially broader issue. Given the inconsistency in diagnostics, the significant cost discrepancy, and the number of similar consumer reports, I believe this issue may be more widespread than current recalls reflect. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether the existing recall should be expanded or if a new recall should be issued for 2020 Silverado 1500 models equipped with the 3. 0l duramax. This issue occurred shortly after a separate failure related to the nox sensor, which I am submitting under a separate complaint.
