10/28/08 I woke @ 6 a. M. To let the dogs out. And I heard this loud noise coming from the garage. Come to find out it was the abs control module, just running away. No keys in the truck. Just running. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It stopped the noise but I don't trust it now.

Anti-lock brake module is running constantly. The wheel speed sensor recall was performed on my truck a couple of years ago. I had to pull the fuse on the abs system to get the module to stop running. It was running even with the engine off and key removed!! now the abs light and brake system light are on constantly. I should not have to pay $1,000. 00+ to get this fixed when so many other owners are having the same problem. I can drive the truck, the brakes are working but I am not sure that it is safe. Thank you for adding this defect to your database.

I have owned a 2000 chevy silverado ext. Cab 4wd since December of 2001. Today I was driving to work, and it was wet out. I was traveling at 25 mph and as I was slowing to a light I completely stopped the truck. There was another car 10 feet in front of me. As I started to pull away at around 4 to 5 mph the car in front of me started to slow because of traffic. When I hit the brake the abs motor started to pulsate so fast the truck wouldn't stop and I never took my foot off the brake pedal. I then moved the shift lever to park and it still wouldn't stop. I then hit the car in front of me and then I finally stopped. The driver in front of me luckily had no damage to his car since I was only driving a few mph. I continued to work. The abs light never came on. As I left work to go to lunch, same day, I was pulling up to a light at a very busy intersection . I slowed way ahead of time and crawled to the light and just as I hit the brake to stop the same thing happened where the abs motor ran continuously and I couldn't stop the vehicle . I threw the truck in park and it still wouldn't stop and was starting to enter the intersection on a red light. I then stepped on the parking brake and it finally stopped. I was almost killed because a semi just started to pass me and he was traveling at about 50 mph. I then turned the truck around and went down the road to my work. As I was parking the truck at my work it happened again,3rd time. The truck is now out of the extended warranty and I can't see paying 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to fix this when it is a manufacturer defect. This particular problem should never happen. There should be a recall for this problem or someone is going to be killed, if that hasn't already happened. I will never feel safe driving a chevy/gm vehicle again and will tell everyone I know about this problem. Just so it's understood I'm a very safe driver and have an excellent driving record.
Abs light came on, then a electric motor sound from under the vehicle, taken to a dealership, was a failed abs module. Had to be replaced. This was the second time in 6 year this has been replaced, the first time was covered by warranty, this time coast 1180 dollars to replace, I feel gm has a problem with the system, and this should be a recall problem.
2000 silverado with 55902 miles. Abs light began to come on intermittently with occasional display of red brake light. Vehicle had been recalled for cleaning of wheel sensors which was completed. Brakes were checked and new rear pads with rotor turning was completed. Abs light still on. Taken to dealer and advised abs modulator was bad. Cost for part, $762. 62 plus labor. Repair not done. Will continue to operate vehicle with conventional non-abs brakes until recall. Abs light continues to intermittently display abs does not work. How many other vehicles are on the highway like this due to astronomical repair cost?.
: the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the abs light and both brake lights illuminated. When the vehicle was shut off, there was a noise that sounded like a fan running. A private mechanic was consulted, who informed the contact that the noise was due to the abs pump running continuously, and that the abs module needed to be replaced.
Antilock brake module failure.
Abs controller failed on 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck.
Abs light coming on. May go a week before it comes on or the next time I start the truck up no pattern brakes still work , 99 silverado.
March,2004 shut off truck and heard sound (like a small electric motor running) coming from under truck. Unplugged electrical connection to avoid running battery down. Called my mechanic and he knew right away what was wrong, he said he has seen quite a few of the 1999 pickups with the same condition. As a friend he looked at it no charge. Said it would be around $650. 00 to fix. Called chevy dealer and they told me gm would pay half. I laughed and said that's not good enough. They also wanted $79. 00 diagnostic fee. What a joke. I wrote a letter to gm they did not respond. I called on the phone and got all the way to the secretary of the Chevrolet division and she would not put me through to him. I'm now driving with standard brakes but my child drive my truck from time to time and feel like I'm not providing him with a safe vehicle and I dont have the money to fix it.
Constant noise from under drivers side ,had gm dealer diagnose problem ($75),was told electronic brake control module had internal short. Ext. Warranty would not cover the $900. 00 expense, contacted gm customer assistance who said they could not help with problem, showed no concern over the safety of having the abs system working, dealer tech. Advised to pull fuse. Am know without abs brakes. Feel gm should take care of this safety issue.
Brake failures. Started happening after about 15,000 miles.
The abs pump wont shut off when I turn off my truck, causing a dead battery. The pump went bad 3 weeks after the warranty expired. Dealer told me it would be around $1000 to fix or I could pull the fuse. Every person ive talked to with a 99 silverado has had the exact same problem.
Abs systems has never worked properly. Abs systems currently non-functional factory recall cleaned wheel sensors & requested $2000. 00 to repair problem.
