For several months I had noticed that the abs would occasionally engage at low speeds on dry pavement, resulting in increased pedal travel and increased stopping distances. Then on December 15, as I left the house and had driven about 100 yards, I heard a grinding sound coming from the abs unit next to the transfer case, and the noise stopped when I pulled the abs fuse. I called o'brien Chevrolet, and the earliest they could look at it was December 20. They looked at it, and told me that the abs unit had developed an internal short, and would have to be replaced, costing about $1200. 00. I was shocked! this truck is in like-new condition, with only 37,200 miles, and its always been kept in a garage or a carport. I can't believe that 37,200 miles is a normal service life of a general motors abs unit before they develop shorts and have to be replaced.

While attempting to park vehicle, the abs system activated for apparent reason, causing the car to hit a wall. Took vehicle to dealer, they duplicated problem, told me that there was a recall for that problem. Gm contacted and initially confirmed problem, now after two weeks they are denying any problem exist . . .
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 hd. While driving at a low rate of speed to 60 mph or trying to park when applying the brakes the pedal made complete contact with the floor. He had to continue to engage the brakes until the pedal extended normally. The dealer stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The repair was performed a month ago and the failure continued to occur on a daily basis. During cold temperatures the failure didn't occur. The contact was aware of recall campaign# 05v379000 concerning service brakes: anti lock. The dealer informed him that this vehicle was not a part of the recall. Also, he stated that odi# 10158205 duplicatede the failure. He filed a complaint with gm and and was given case# 71-506187062. The failure mileage was 51,900. I noticed pressing the brakes at slow speed the brakes became soft and the abs system kicked in. There is a recall for this exact thing in certain states but not mine and I am being told I have to pay 800$ to repair it.
My submission pertains to campaign id number 05v37900. I would like to inform your office that the same problem occurs on guam as well as the other states you have mentioned in t the recall report. It occurs in both my vehicles 1999 GMC yukon 2002 Chevrolet silverado both of which I believe have recalls pertaining to the anti-lock brake system.
: the contact stated when the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop for maintenance, the mechanic observed that the metal on the rear rotor shields was rusted through. There was a NHTSA recall # 05v379000, pertaining to corrosion of the antilock service brakes. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
When braking, if the vehicle is on a very rough road that makes the truck bounce sharply several times in a brief period, the abs system activates. This increases the stopping distance on a dry road. On a certain country asphalt road I have driven there is a short rough are immediately preceding a stop sign at an intersection. As an experienced driver I know when to commence braking. However, the first time I drove my abs-equipped silverado at the location mentioned, the stopping time was increased unexpectedly due to the abs activation and my truck went part-way into the intersection. Future stops were made safely after I became aware of the strange abs behavior and began braking at that intersection earlier than normal and crawled over the rough pavement section at a snail's pace. Danger exists when driving in an unfamiliar location and coming upon a very rough spot. These rough spots are not always readily visible especially on an asphalt covered roadway. The bumps do not have to be large, just enough to jostle the truck vertically, causing the abs to engage. I notified the dealer but they mentioned a lack of opportunity to replicate the conditions that caused the problem along with expressing doubt about the problem actually occurring. An internal groan emerged as I heard the 4-wheeler driving rookies spew their blather as this long-haul trucking professional driver who drives in one year what they do in ten was doubted. Typical. I admit, the problem is difficult to replicate unless a location can be found with the proper pavement conditions. The spot where I first noticed the problem is in California, I am now back home in nebraska and have not found a place hereabouts where the abs activation occurs due to a rough roadway.

On the approx. Date listed I had a problem with my abs. System running non stop. When I approached a local dealer about this issue, I was told it would be a few thousand dollars to fix or I could just pull the fuse and ignore the lights that would be on so this is what I did. I was recently notified that this problem could now be fixed for much less ($1500).

The abs on my 2001 chevy silverado stepside (extended cab) kicks in at low speed stops. I have come close to hitting things in the past because it hinders the truck's stopping capabilities. I have complained to my dealership in the past, but no codes ever show up on the computer. For whatever reason, no info about my brake complaints was ever entered on my records. The truck has done this since the first month I had it (I bought it brand new). I finally found out that there was a recall for this problem, but not for the south. I called Chevrolet and asked about the recall and was told that my truck had too many miles now to do anything about it and that the recall wasn't for my area and that since it wasn't on my service records there wasn't anything that could be done. Do I have any recourse in this matter (my truck just turned 101k miles)?.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. On several occasions while driving at slow speeds the brake pedal made complete contact with the floor. The mechanic stated that the rear rotors were worn out, and had to be replaced. The current mileage was 49,000. Update 4/25/tr.
