Upon requiring an emergency stop from 50 mph approaching a stop light at a busy intersection, one of the brake lines burst. The brake pedal went to the floor. (no brake warning light, no low brake fluid light, and no loss of abs light). I pumped the brakes and dropped the transmission into 1st gear in hopes of slowing down before a crash. I made the right turn at the intersection, which was up hill and eventually brought the vehicle to a complete stop. I put the truck in park and applied the emergency brake. Fortunately, the light just changed so the intersection was still clear. The vehicle was towed after confirmation of the damaged brake line. Further inspection has revealed that all the steel brake lines are heavily corroded and are in need of replacement. This issue seems pretty frequent with this particular year and model. A weak or poorly designed brake line should be the responsibility of the manufacturer. Proof of fault is indicated in gm's decision to change the brake lines to stainless steel in newer models. If no recall is issued at least a warning should be given to current owners!!!.

After driving for around 30 miles I was pulling up to the garage at home slowing down when the anti-lock brake system engaged at about 3 miles per hour. In a panic, the truck kept moving without stopping for approximately 3 to 4 feet, then I put the truck in park and it stopped. Without doing that I would have hit my garage door, missing the door by inches. This issue is still ongoing as of 8/18/13. In order to stop, the brakes have to be pumped at all times when trying to stop. The anti-lock bake system activates at 3 to 4 miles per hour all the time if not pumped. I am a mechanic and started searching the internet to see what could be the problem. Upon my finding there are many others with the same issue as mine. I have not addressed the issue because the truck isn't used much, although it needs to be address very soon. I feel that this issue should not be at my expense when this issue is more wide spread then just my truck. Some have said that a earlier model of SUV had a recall when the anti-lock system would activate at 3 to 10 miles per hour and was a design flaw. On a larger note, the anti-lock brake light doesn't come on either.

Occasionally, the brake were would become spongy and depress lower. There was never any warning lights. On the 15th of September 2013, I went to pick up my boat for a day at a lake. The speed limit is 70mph along the stretch of interstate to the lake. I stopped by the storage office then proceeded to back up to go to the storage yards entrance gate. The brakes did their usual random lower than usual depression. Just as I rolled up to the security keypad the brakes failed. At this point all the brake and the service brake system lights came on. Unbelievable!!! I do thank above I became ill that weekend and skipped the boat fishing tournament to lake huron hours away. It would have been a disastrous and taken my life!!! I put fluid in it but it did not help. I made it 1/2 mile down the road to the auto store for more fluid. It did not help. I made it another 1/2 mile home by using the poorly adjusted emergency brake (previous owners neglect probably) and the 1 inch of brake pressure left in the regular brakes. I was in utter shock to see the amount of rust. Not only the brake line but the other lines, also. That is completely unacceptable even for a 2004 truck. I have older vehicles than this with very little or no rust on component lines. This was intentional by gm? maybe to make sure to make service money on such a dependable vehicle? I can not make up excuses or think of one good reason to jeopardize consumers lives this way. An inch of brake use is not going to stop the truck at regular speeds let alone a truck with a payload or a trailer. I usually think people who sue others are out for money. Now I am thinking of suing gm for endangering my life. That should wake them up to this situation. There are some really good class action lawyers out of tennessee that successfully filed against a major drug store chain. I am calling them.

I had parked my truck at a christmas tree farm. Upon returning to my truck, I restarted it, shifted into reverse to back up in the field when it appeared to have slid in the mud while applying the brakes. I continued up the hill and had rounded the top of the farm continuing back down a moderate slope when the brakes were applied but provided very little stopping power. The brake light in the dash illuminated and a note in the dash indicated to have the brake system serviced. The truck was taken to a GMC dealer for repairs. I was told by the dealer that all of my brake lines were rusted out and repairs would cost between $1200. 00 and $1300. 00. I will contact the dealer tomorrow to save all of the old brake lines for inspection.
I was pulling a trailer full of firewood out of a pasture and the brake pedal went to the floor and the service brake system light came on the dash. The vehicle stopped after going about another 10 feet and I got out and found a large amount of brake fluid on the ground under the driver's door. Looked under the truck and found a pin hole in the brake line and brake fluid would spray out when I pushed on the brakes. The brake lines were severely rusted and I was able to snap the brake line in half with little pressure when I repaired it there in the field to get home.

Was driving about 35mph, and went to stop at a stop sign. Brake pedal went to the floor. I had no warning that the brakes were malfunctioning. The brake warning light went on after the brakes failed. Went under the truck, and noticed all brake lines are corroded. In the process of calling a mechanic to fix the lines. But went online to see if there is a recall, noticed many complaints about this problem. Very lucky only person on road, and did not injure myself or others.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph the abs and emergency brake warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that there was a failure with the wheel speed sensor. The contact was also informed of a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The dealer and manufacturer were notified and both advised the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure and current mileages were 80,001.

On the evening of may 31st I was driving out a 2 lane road at approx 40 mph following another vehicle. The other vehicle did a "panic brake" and swerved to miss a deer in the road. I "panic braked" when he did and my pedal went all the way to the floor with no warning and I slowed down but didn't stop. When I found a safe place to stop I got out and checked my fluid which was down but not empty at this point. I had a wet spot behind the left rear tire on the frame rail. When the garage looked at it the brake line was very rusted and corroded and had ruptured. I had no warning light on either indicating a brake problem. In researching this issue on the internet it seems to be a common problem in these trucks. I had a new line run at the cost of $120. 00. This is a very bad situation, there was no warning of a problem before or after the rupture, I could slow down but not stop, I had to shift to low gear to try to stop, the brake warning light or alarm never sounded. Please do something and have gm help fix this before some innocent person(s) are hurt or killed.

Abs and parking brake lights will not go off. Dealer has told me that the anti-lock brakes will not work in this condition. State of colorado will not allow my vehicle to pass the required emissions test with the vehicle in this condition. Checked if there was a recall and there was but my state, colorado is not included in this recall (NHTSA campaign id number: 05v39000).

Both abs and brake lights on dash of 1999 chevy Silverado 1500. Low speed abs activation at random not included in recall because of where I live????.
Anti-lock brake light and the brake light on the dash cluster comes on and stays on while driving.
I bought the truck new in 2005, it has been a piece of junk from the start, I have had multiple problems with this truck, replaced both front rotors & hubs, the dealership said this was normal but I think that it is just normal for a junky Chevrolet, the main power supply plug on the heater motor melted off and would no longer work, front speakers quite working, front brake lines rusted away and the reservoir was dry and the brake light on the dash never came on for a warning, had to replace all brake lines on the front end of the vehicle, brakes are very weak and most of the time the pedal is very soft and goes to the floor and scares me to death, you don't think that the truck is going to stop, this brake issue is a very big problem !!!, several people that I know have the same model truck have the save exact issues, I will never in my life time buy another Chevrolet product as lond as I live and I spread this info with anyone who might even think of buying a Chevrolet, dont do it, they are junk !!!!!!!!!!!!.

I drive a 2002 Chevrolet silverado z71. In November 2004 the abs brake system would activate every time I would press the brake at speeds less than 10 mph. I took it to the gm service and they had to replace the entire hub assembly because the sensors were corroded. A recall was issued on the sensor problem. Recently I have an abs light that comes on everytime I start moving. Occasionally the brake light also comes on. I took it in to gm service and was told that the abs pump assy and module were both broken and repair costs would be about $2000. I was told that the brakes worked fine, I just wouldn't have the abs feature. However I believe the abs system is an important safety feature on a vehicle, especially in areas that experience inclement weather. In addition, the service representative told me that the abs light is triggering the occasional brake light. The false positive is dangerous because it can cause complacency where drivers would ignore a real brake failure. I understand that it's impossible for automobile components to last indefinitely. However, it's obvious that general motors trucks have efficient brake systems, especially concerning the abs.
Purchased 2005 brand new from dealer. I am familiar with what to do to break-in a new vehicle. I occasionally cross a mountain, and when I apply the brakes lightly, they immediately start to pulsate very noticeably. To get them to stop pulsating, I must apply the brakes fairly hard. This happens all the time on hills/mountains. I was hoping that this would work itself out with time. I presently have 21,000 miles on the truck. I am the only driver since new and it has never seen winter here in pennsylvania. I rotate the tires every 5,000 miles and that hasn't made any difference. I have inspected the brakes and they look fine. The brakes are very strong on this silverado.
