2 Battery problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

I am a military helicopter test pilot and faa licensed aircraft mechanic. We bought this vehicle new in 2008 and it has been properly maintained and cared for. We had to replace a dead battery in July 2011 and following that the radio stopped keeping time when the vehicle was turned off. Then a few weeks later the electrical system shorted out multiple times while driving. The door locks cycled repeatedly and the instrument console flashed in unison. Also following each event the radio clock time and date had reset. It has done this on four separate occasions since late July. As a precaution the battery connections were rechecked and found properly secured, although this should not have caused this problem. Each time the problem has occurred it has happened quickly but the engine momentarily exhibited reduced power when it happened.

While researching found thousands of chevy owner all with the same complaint and with no real fix. There seems to be some connection between the battery/loss of power and the climate control module being defective.

2007 Suburban ltz battery has been completely drained 2x within one month. Once after having the doors and back open for approx 10 min and the other at a car wash while the staff cleaned the inside of the vehicle. ( approx 10 min). First time dealer blamed the cold and the lack of driving at the time, had the battery tested and the battery is completely dead. Will be taking to dealership tomorrow. Reading the reviews and am astonished that there are so many complaints about the battery drain issue. We purchased this vehicle as a family vehicle, but am very concerned with its reliability. This is a huge issue for a family with children.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. While driving 30 mph, all of the instrument panel warning lights began to flash and the windshield wipers activated. The insurance company and gm were also informed of the failures. The failure mileage was 142,000.

8 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/03/2008

I was driving along the freeway and I noticed that on the computerized dashboard, the service tire monitor was flashing. I was driving 50 mph and when I looked at the speedometer, the gauge went up to 120 mph and even though I turned the engine off the gauge is still at 120 mph. I also noticed that the battery gauge is not working, because the gauge is not moving at all and when I looked at the rpm gauge, I was only pressing the gas slightly, the rpm gauge went up to the maximum level. When I was coming back home from work the same day, when I started the engine I felt it right away that whenever I put my foot on the gas, the vehicle is just moving slowly, until it stopped moving. I have it towed to bill heard dealership and they found out that it was the transmission was tore and according to the dealership that I need to have a new transmission. This vehicle is a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, bought it brand new. Right now we have 67,880 mileage and we only have this vehicle for 4 1/2 years. Few months prior to this incident, I received a letter from gm, about a condition that may develop on this vehicle which is where one or more of the instrument panel gauge needles may stick, flutter or become inoperative and may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and the fuel gauge. I have kept that letter and called the gm and I was advised to take the vehicle to the dealership. I was just wandering, because it all happened in one day. I don't know if this problem is related to the transmission.

9 Battery problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/12/2007

No crashes or injuries. On the indicated date I had the engine turned off with the keys in the ignition, listening to the radio. After a short time approximately 10 minutes, I discovered that the car battery was completely drained. I have been careful not let these incidents occur again but it has repeated at least 6 times. The most recent time was when I had a flat tire replaced and the tire service tech attempted to reprogram the tire pressure monitor system at which time, the battery was drained immediately. The reprogramming was impossible because the battery would not provide electricity to complete the tpms. I followed the owners manual's instructions and had the same results, a dead battery and unsuccessful attempt. I now have a useless tpms and the danger of getting stranded with a dead battery. The dealership offers to attempt to fix the problem starting at $99. 00 +. A new vehicle should be free of these types of defects. I should not be paying for the repair.

In August last year I purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. At 2000 miles the car is 1st totally draining the battery ( I was in camping in the middle of the forest- they found me after 3 hrs- sheriff dept). 14 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

I have had problems since day one on this Suburban. Most recently the two above. I checked the warranty work that was done on my Suburban and it was over a page of claims. I just cannot remember the dates the items I checked occured. The fuel pump problem was long in the coming, they just didn't know what the problem was. I spent outside of warranty hundreds of dollars on the fuel system. This left us stranded 3 times! this last time cost me $765. Today, the abs sytem died. They say it's going to cost me close to a $1000 to repair. I purchased the Suburban because it was safe to carry my wife and 7 kids. So far, we have been stuck on the road, lost vacation time and just can't feel safe anymore. Now I don't have brakes. Thanks for letting me vent. Kent dold.

15 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/07/2003

I have experienced an electrical problem since the first day of purchase. It started with the headlight flickering. Unlike the others that have had similar experience, I have had the battery replaced 3 times, 2 alternaters, cd player replaced, ac on/off switch replaced, time delay module for the interior lights replaced, car alarm disconnected, and now currently in the shop again for the same problem. Usually works fine for about 3-6 months the I have noticed the flickering (at night), and the alt meter drops at idle to about 12 volts. This has gone into the extended warranty now and very soon the warranty will expire. I was told by the warranty company that after it expires, they do not cover pre-existing problems. They are now conducting a test and changing some connectors on the alternater, and it is possible that the extended warranty will not cover the cost. Flickering at night is one thing with other cars. Resolving a problem on a 40k car is another. Please help.

Failure Date: 03/09/2001

Truck stalls, causing loss of power steering and brakes. Dealer has attempted to remedy defect on three separate occassions without success. Accidents avoided thus far, but next time, I may not be so fortunate. Please post these comments, to warn other consumers. GMC is denying responsibility, has flatly refused to repurchase the vehicle, and continues to attempt to repair the problem. I'm scared to death to drive this thing. . . Me and my passengers(very often a troop of girl scouts) are in danger, and so is anyone who might be in front of me when this happens. I hope that no one dies as a result of this defect. Failure Date: 09/03/2000

The initial symptom has been upon starting the engine the clock resets to 1:00 and the air conditioner lights glow on and off(but the a/c switch is off). The next symtom is while driving the engine will just die unexpectedly. The Suburban has been taken to several dealers. The battery has been replaced 4 times since the vehicle was purchased in mid-1996. The battery has leaked so badly that parts under the area where the battery sits had to be replaced. Besides what seems to be electrical problems, the brakes in the front have already been replaced 4 times. This last time the roters were replaced because the dealer said they were out of mfg. Specifications. Brakes and battery repair are not under extended warranty. Each trip to the dealer is more $500. 00. The potential for a life ending accident is so great when these systems fail on a vehicle. Why aren't these vehicles built with better reliability? the truck was picked up from the dealer on 9/11/2000. The electrical problems are still not fixed! (description of vehicle: Chevrolet Suburban, v8 vortec 454, 4x4, 3/4 ton).
