3 Starter problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

Safe lite auto glass placed polyeurethane glue on the rear window auto defroster metal contact to the rear window of my chevy 2007 lt Suburban. I hit the remote starter and allowed the car to run for 9 minutes, the vehicle will auto shut off after 10 minutes. My daughter smelled smoke in the car so I inserted my ignition key and I rolled down the windows. I then backed my car out of the garage, pulled out of the driveway and my rear window exploded into pieces of glass everywhere. I called the police, filed a police report, filed a claim with my insurance company (geico, ref claim # : 0501768800101053) where the claims adjuster found that the metal contact did cause a chemical reaction with the polyurethane glue as the cause.

4 Starter problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that debris from the vehicle was on the ground. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised that the starter and the fly wheel would have to be replaced because the starter housing exhibited hairline fractures, which was causing the starter to engage in fly wheel. The failure recurred and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

Immediately after engines dies starter will not crank. The car will start again after several minutes. Check engine light is on. After a drive of about 4 miles parked car and started next morning--check engine light is off. Engine quitting and no brakes could be dangerous. Intermittent problem.

I have had the fuel pump, starter, alternator and batter all replaced. I have read on many sites that I am not the only one with the same vehicle with the same problem.

8 Starter problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/01/2007

Speedometer was ticking up and down rather than smoothly increasing and decreasing. We used cruise control when on a trip and then the speedometer started malfunctioning. Since this occurred, the speedometer has been stuck past 120 mph on multiple occasions when we were going about 30. This is certainly a safety hazard for which a recall should be issued. This could cause an accident if it malfunctions while you are driving and you are unable to determine how fast you are going. You would tend to drive slower and you could be rear-ended by someone else who was either speeding or doing the correct speed limit. I was surprised to see the number of complaints about this problem and Chevrolet has not stepped up to the plate and acknowledged that it is a manufacturer defect. I found out accidentally that when you start the vehicle, the speedometer resets by 5mph. I would have to start the vehicle repeatedly to get it back to zero. Although this is not good for the starter, this was my only option at the time. I just saw something on the internet that said to put the vehicle in reverse and then try to start it. By doing this it would reset the speedometer by 5mph every time without engaging the starter. This did work, but when I drove the vehicle the next time, the speedometer did not work at all. I tried resetting the speedometer again by putting it in park and starting, but to no avail. After trying many more times to reset by starting the vehicle, the speedometer started to work. This is unacceptable at every level. The consumer should not have to beg and plead to get a manufacturer defect fixed. . Read more...

9 Starter problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/16/2007

Instrument cluster: at any given time, the speedometer will stop registering the vehicle's speed and go past the maximum speed (120mph in this case). When you stop, the speedometer usually stops on approximately 80 or 90 mph depending on the speed you were originally traveling. Also, the oil pressure gauge does not show the accurate reading. The oil pressure gauge will all of a sudden go down to zero, or max out at 80 and stay there. It takes several days for the speedometer to go back down to zero, or several times cranking the vehicle and turning off the ignition to get the speedometer to go back to zero, causing premature wear on the ignition components and starter.

15 Starter problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/20/1999

The battery, electric system, starter, alternator, lights have all been a tech. Problem. We lease the car until last year when we purchased it. When the car died the first 36 mths the dealer replaced the same items that I have had to replace after 36k. We have put 3 batteries from sears in the car already. The dealership took out the alarm and did not tell us. We have paid and towed the car to the point when even the dealership manager is telling us he is short of tech. Staff. The problem starts with the lights (I. E. Blinker does work or headlight does not turn on) within 30 days the battery is dead and the dealer does not know why but charges use to replace the cables to the battery. I have called the manufacter, and they say get the alarm put back and try another dealership. Has anyone had this happen. No one has died due to this ongoing issue. But, I have 4 young children, and to not have the car start in parking lots of malls and die while we are driving is very upsetting. We have used up all my towing on aaa.

Dealer hasn't been able to find a remedy at this point. Axle seals were leaking in front. Vehicle would not start in the am, had to be jump started.

18 Starter problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/30/1998

Our Suburban now has its 3rd battery in 3 years. The original battery's post broke off leaking acid, destroying starter wiring, causing associated frame damage. The dealer denied knowledge of any preexisting problems with Suburban vehicles of this type. The dealer replaced the battery, but refused to take care of the acid damage. The second incident was in the fall of 1999. We experienced the same problem and the dealer replaced the battery at full cost to us since the vehicle was out of warranty. Today July 10, 2000, the vehicle refused to start. The tray holding the battery shows evidence of corrosion. In addition, the positive cable terminals are corroded.
