1 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/28/2008

While driving my cab starting filling with smoke and the smell of burning wires. I pulled over to see what it could be and turned off the radio and air conditioner. I did not notice anything that looked like it was smoking or on fire so I continued on. When I tried to turn the air conditioner on it didn't come on for a minute so I looked under the hood at the relay center and there was nothing wrong there when I got back in the truck it was running again. A few days later the same thing happened so I pulled my dash apart and checked the wiring couldn't find anything wrong. Then it happened where my air conditioner shut off and heavy smoke started coming from under the glove box area. I pulled the air conditioning silencer off and noticed the wiring harness plugged into the blower motor resistor was about to catch on fire so I unplugged it before it could happen.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

2001 chevy Suburban 1500 electrical from time I bought vehicle radio would reset time to 1:00 (default) for no reason. Dealer replaced radio and problem persisted. Now the radio works some of the time mostly not at all, and the cd player works some of the time. Lights dim often when driving, obviously more noticeable at night and long trips. We had the alternator checked to be sure we didn't get stranded and it was fine. Last week, the low beam lights started working some of the time. When you switch from high to low beams you have no beams, next time you might have low beam. The seat adjustment for person one and two, has lost its memory on a couple occasions so chevy replace that. I am concerned that this is and electrical problem and going to turn into a fire hazard. I feel like chevy is only replacing what they can and not really finding the source of the problem. They have not been willing to look into far enough to resolve the real issue.

Upon exiting freeway I noticed a burning odor. Parked the surburban and lifted the hood and discovered the left front area of engine on fire. I extinguished the flame and the resulting damage exhibited spark plug wires 1 and 3 totally burnt to ash. Wire harness to air conditioning and engine temperature sensor insulation was burnt away. Oil filler neck is completly melted away as are the sparkplug wire mounting brackets. Plastic vaccuum hose for emmission device was also melted in half. Upper radiator hose is badly burnt.
