My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban premier is covered under gm recall 25v-274 for the 6. 2l l87 engine defect (loss of propulsion from connecting rod and crankshaft failure). In xxx, the dealer notified me my vehicle required a full engine replacement under this recall. Wareing sheridan Chevrolet in [xxx] replaced the engine, and the vehicle was out of service approximately 12 to 14 days. Approximately 6,000 miles later, on xxx, the replacement engine failed while I was driving on the interstate highway near billings, montana. There were no warning indicators of any kind until I suddenly lost power. Only at the moment power was lost did the check engine light come on and a low oil pressure warning appear. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the interstate before it died. I had my family in the vehicle, and losing power on the interstate with no warning created a serious risk of a crash. The vehicle had to be towed to denny menholt Chevrolet in billings, mt. On June 13, 2026, the dealer confirmed the vehicle needs a second complete engine replacement under the same recall. This is the second l87 engine failure and second full engine replacement on this vehicle under recall 25v-274. No crash or injuries occurred. I have an open case with gm (#xxx). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The engine of this car has been under recall for multiple issues during the time we have owned it. The most recent issue that was experienced was total engine failure and electrical malfunction while driving on a busy street near train tracks. The vehicle was making a loud banging sound moments before this occurred. I wasn't even given time to get to a safe spot to investigate the issue. When it shut down, a quick message flashed across the dash board--stating ability to shift had been lost (or something to that effect)--the vehicle then flipped into neutral and immediately lost power. My safety was put at great risk due to the fact that the entire vehicle shut down moments after I crossed over a very busy railway track. The vehicle had to be towed to a nearby Chevrolet dealership where it has been confirmed there was total engine failure as well as blown main electrical fuse.
Vehicle stalled during routine driving. Code p129f. I was stranded in 95 degree weather with three small children. Please correct and advise ASAP. Had to be towed home. Vehicle inoperable.

Car shut off in the middle of the road while driving and auto braked. Had to get a tow. Dealership said engine is bad now.
When I first got this vehicle 2019 brand new off the lot the dealership in newark ohio had to completely rewire it. It took them a month to figure it out. I just replaced the transmission and now the engine is out. A piston rod snapped hit both sides an cracked the sides and the oil pan.

3. 0 duramax, thrust bearing engine failure. Less than 6000 miles on vehicle. Driving at 60 mph when vehicle went into major limp mode. Had tcm, charging and coolant lights illuminate. Gm is replacing engine under warranty. Indicated there was approximately a 2 week engine production window where this issue is being traced back to. Gm should issue recall if they know the extent of condition and the cause(s).

3. 0 duramax engine failure at 5900 miles. Apparently is from the known thrust bearing issue. Mil, cel, tcm illuminated. Failure occurred at 60 mph during rush hour traffic. Engine is being replaced under warranty. Gm should issue recall for the affected lot of this engine.
After performing all preventative, regular, and even proactive maintenance, the vehicle started shaking and shutting down with 2 miles. We are now being told (by 3 separate mechanics) that it needs an entirely new engine.
On may 2, 2026, while the vehicle was in operation, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. At the time of failure, the instrument panel remained illuminated; however, the vehicle would not restart. In an effort to resolve the issue, the battery was replaced, but this did not correct the problem. The vehicle was then towed to a local Chevrolet dealership for further inspection and diagnosis. Following their assessment, I was informed by the dealership’s service department that the engine had seized and that metal debris was present in the engine oil, indicating significant internal engine failure. I was further advised that a replacement engine has been ordered. At no point prior to this incident were there any warning indicators, abnormal noises, or performance issues that would have suggested an impending engine failure. The sudden nature of this incident raises concerns regarding the cause of failure and whether it may be related to a defect or internal mechanical issue.

The vehicle would jerk when changing gears and would have a rattle and vibration when accelerating.
Today, 5/2/26 in lewis center, OH- my daughter and I were returning home from her soccer game. The time was about 11am. We were in my brand new chevy z71 Suburban, with 4,100 miles. As we were slowing , approaching the roundabout, I noticed no power as I was preparing to enter the roundabout. I then see that the car powered off. It would not restart and I had no way to put into n. I had to call [xxx] to have the sheriff direct traffic. I used onstar, only to find out the tow was 216 min out. So the sheriff called a tow and it was there in 30 min and towed to local chevy dealership, thankfully before the closed for the weekend. I will find out Monday what the issue is- but it for sure seized up. So sad. I paid $100k for this truck. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the messages “coolant control valve” and “acceleration reduced – stop vehicle” were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the coolant control valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 104,849.
The engine siezed up due to the issues that are related to the recall. Currently waiting for a new engine, it has been almost 5 weeks and no time frame on when it will be fixed.

While driving on interstate xxx on 4/17/2026 my vehicle lost power I had to pull over on the shoulder thankfully I was able to do so. Restarted the vehicle for just a short bit and it said loss of engine oil pressure and died. Would not restart. Ultimately had to be towed to a gm dealership lynch Chevrolet in [xxx] . Was told the engine was shot and was covered under the safety recall. There was a recall on the motor I had brought it in to get rectified sept 2025. A heavier weight oil was added and filler cap replaced with 40 weight oil identification. . I just had an oil change the day before the incident on 4/16. What is concerning I'm worried about the long wait plus plus online blogs that indicate the engine failed numerous times even after replacement. I was told from the dealership that the engine was on back order and they cannot give me a time on when it's going to be available. But again I'm worried about this vehicle in general in moving forward or trying to anyway. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
8,305 miles the engine failed. Had to have it towed to the dealership. New engine on order, but on backorder and have no idea when it will come in.
I was driving yesterday when my car began to shake at low rpms. The traction control light came on steadily and the check engine light was blinking. I was unable to safely accelerate. I took it to my mechanic who tested spark plugs and coils, which he confirmed aren't the problem. He informed me that this is a common issue with the gm 6. 2l engine, but mine isn't part of the recall. After checking online I see that this is exactly what many others are reporting and that there's an NHTSA investigation as well as a class action lawsuit tied to this issue.
I was driving in [xxx] on 1604 and the car was driving fine and out of nowhere. The car started shaking while on the highway for about seven8 seconds and then I heard an explosion smoke and fire. I pulled to the side. The car was on fire. The whole car was on fire within a minute or two I always took care of the car. Don’t understand how that happened. Odometer fraud. The contact purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was restarted and driven; however, approximately one minute later, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was restarted and driven to a nearby parking lot. A certified mechanic arrived and inspected the vehicle. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with rod bearing failure, which caused damage to the engine. The vehicle was driven to the residence, and the contact was advised not to drive the vehicle to prevent a blown engine. The vehicle was not repaired. After the failure, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale on July 30, 2025. At the time of purchase, the mileage was approximately 180,000. The odometer indicated that the current mileage was 193,000. After researching the information on infotracer. Com, the contact discovered that on July 1st, 2001, the mileage was documented as 242,765. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure.

Two years ago, we had to have the transmission rebuilt after it kept slipping. Yesterday, as I was driving on I-95, I was passing a vehicle and pressed on the gas. There was a loud crunching noise and I lost acceleration. The check engine light came on right away and I couldn’t press on the gas without a noise and limited forward momentum. I then had to maneuver the car across four lanes of traffic with limited control over speed. There was no warnings an issue was going to occur. We had it towed to our mechanic who said there was low compression in cylinder 1. Less than 90 psi. Again, we had already had the transmission replaced and now this major engine issue. We are in the process of getting it to a chevy dealer.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, while traveling at approximately 60 mph on the highway, my 2021 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with an l87 6. 2l v8 engine experienced a sudden and complete loss of motive power. The failure sequence began with a dashboard warning prompting me to "press the start button again," followed immediately by the vehicle shifting into neutral without any driver input. Despite repeatedly pressing the accelerator, the vehicle continued to decelerate and could not re-engage drive. A second dashboard warning displaying "engine recall" then appeared mid-incident. Subsequently, the rear wheels locked, forcing the vehicle to coast to a complete stop on the hard shoulder without any brake input required from the driver. Upon coming to a full stop, the start button continued flashing with repeated prompts to press it, the vehicle lock emblem illuminated on the dashboard, and the vehicle became fully and mechanically immobile, unable to shift out of neutral or transition into any other gear. The engine could not power the vehicle at all. My safety and the safety of other motorists were directly and seriously endangered, as the failure occurred without warning in the middle lane of an active highway at highway speed, leaving the vehicle unable to maneuver or accelerate out of harm's way. A responding police officer confirmed the road hazard on scene and remained present to protect the vehicle and occupants while we awaited assistance. The aaa tow truck operator independently concurred upon arrival. The vehicle was transported to classic Chevrolet, grapevine, TX, the same day and is currently awaiting full technical inspection by the dealership's service team; an official mechanical diagnosis remains pending. The dealership service advisor has verbally confirmed awareness of an active engine and powertrain/transmission recall affecting this vehicle. The failed component — the l87 6. 2l v8 engine and associated drivetrain — is available for inspection.
My 2021 Chevrolet Suburban experienced a sudden and complete engine failure at approximately 79,000 miles. The vehicle became inoperable and is currently at a dealership pending evaluation. There were no prior warnings indicating an imminent catastrophic failure. A sudden engine failure of this nature presents a significant safety concern, including the risk of loss of propulsion during operation. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership, and no repairs have been authorized at this time pending further review. This complaint is being submitted to document a sudden and severe engine failure and to request evaluation of potential safety-related defects involving internal engine components.
While driving home from costco with my entire family in the vehicle (4 children and my pregnant wife), I noticed the engine misfiring while traveling on interstate 80 and mentioned to my wife that something felt off with the vehicle. After exiting I-80 onto route 46 east at the denville exit, the truck reached the first traffic light where the vehicle rumbled violently, shook, and completely shut off. The engine would not restart. Dashboard lights illuminated but the engine would not turn over, and the hazard lights would not activate. This created a dangerous roadside situation with traffic approaching from behind at approximately 50 mph. I exited the vehicle and stood in the roadway directing traffic to prevent an accident while my wife attempted to restart the vehicle and called 911. Police arrived and a tow truck was dispatched. The tow truck driver attempted to jump start the vehicle, but it would not start. The vehicle had to be winched onto a flatbed tow truck.
I purchased a 2023 Suburban on March 6, 2026 with 52,980 miles. I drove it home to my house and parked it. On March 7, 2026 about 6pm, I started the vehicle and heard a loud engine noise. I called the dealership and let them know about the noise. On March 9, 2026 I towed it back to the dealership. The vehicle has been in service since then and was told it needs an engine. Metal spun threw the engine block and has to replaced. I just purchased this vehicle and drove it one day.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the transmission unexpectedly shifted to neutral(n) and the vehicle shut off. The driver was able to coast safely to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was determined that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was previously taken to the same dealer for a prior recall repair. The dealer had provided a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,166.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while changing the oil and filter, there were metal shavings found in the oil filter. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was notified of the failure over the phone. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
Vehicle accelerated while driving. The rpms gage turned red; however, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with other cars coming. After the vehicle came to a full stop it would not move. Finally it started moving slowly and I was able to get off the road. When the tow truck arrived the vehicle would only go forward. No reverse. Error message on dashboard picture attached.
Complete and sudden failure of the l87 v8 engine at 70 mph on the highway. Had to maneuver to the right shoulder and coast to a stop. Engine was seized and would not restart. Waited 4 hours on a dangerous highway for a tow truck which took the chevy Suburban 200 miles to my home Chevrolet dealership. They have ordered a new engine but it is on backorder so no eta. Vehicle was built 06-26-2024 and has not been recalled so chevy says I do not get the extended warranty on the replacement engine.
2/24/2026 sitting at red light, very busy road, vehicle cut off and said push to start. Vehicle would not start and would not shift out of park to push out of road. Very dangerous to be stranded in moving traffic. Had to be towed to dealer and it's still there waiting on engine replacement.
I have read reports online of the two thousand sixteen chevy Suburban turning off completely while driving. I have experienced this not once not twice. But three times now, with my chevy, Suburban. This is a severe safety issue and can lead to death or major financial loss.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the engine and oil warning lights were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
On February 21st at approximately 9:30 am, I was driving my brand-new 2026 chevy Suburban high country when I began hearing an unusual noise from the engine. There were zero dashboard warnings — no check engine light, no alerts, nothing indicating a failure. Out of caution, I immediately headed to the dealership so they could inspect it. I was driving slowly and carefully when, without any warning whatsoever, the engine suddenly and completely seized. The vehicle locked up abruptly. I barely had enough time to try to move toward the shoulder, and I was unable to fully clear the roadway — the rear half of the vehicle remained partially in traffic. It was an extremely dangerous situation. What is especially alarming is that I was not on the highway at the time. Had this occurred while traveling 80–85 mph on sh-130 in texas — which is a normal speed limit there — the outcome could have been catastrophic. A complete engine seizure at highway speeds could have caused a major accident involving multiple vehicles. Even more concerning, my Chevrolet app (connected through onstar) still shows no issues or alerts with the vehicle. The attached pictures are from the my Chevrolet app on Sunday, 02/22/2026, around 11:13 am. This is a brand-new vehicle, and I was informed yesterday that the dealership has requested a full engine replacement. I have no timeline for the repair. For a vehicle of this price point, a sudden engine seizure with zero warnings is deeply concerning from both a safety and reliability standpoint.
In April of 2022 with 26k miles my vehicle had its first engine failure, Chevrolet dealership had to replace engine lifters due to a known engineering defect with the 2021 6. 2 l87 engine. Now in late February 2026 with 80k miles my engine has locked up and requires a brand new engine replacement. For some reason, even though this is a l87 6. 2l 2021 engine it is not part of the broader recall for this exact same engine failure for the same engine year and model.
