5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

When decelerating getting off of the highway 6/6/2020 the vehicle engine revved up on it's own. The message center is saying that the airbags need to be serviced, the air conditioning turns on and off and goes from high to low on it's own , and the power windows in the second row of seating will roll down but can only be rolled up at times by the drivers side window controls. The brake grading system turns on at random times and the tire sensor reading displays are off. The tire sensor readings are the opposite of what they appear to be on the message center (ie. The message center says that the left rear tire is low, but the right rear tire is actually low. Lastly, despite regular timely recommended oil changes one of my lifters in my engine broke off on the way home from work one day last year. I was stopped at a light and went to accelerate and the check engine light came on and the vehicle started shaking. I pulled over and had to have the vehicle towed to an autoshop. The entire engine had to be replaced and it was just a month outside of the factory warranty. So we had to pay out of pocket for the entire cost of the repair. This truck has been one hazard after another since we purchased it.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/24/2020

I had driven my vehicle to work. Mid-morning I started my vehicle while in the parking lot of my work to run an errand. I backed out of the parking space and drove maybe 100 feet when my check engine light came on. My vehicle also began considerably shaking. I went straight to my mechanic. He found that one of the lifters had failed. This was not the first time he had seen this problem. My mechanic has a friend who works for a gm dealership as a mechanic. The friend had previously advised my mechanic this is a known problem with this engine. If a lifter fails while the engine is still under warranty, only the one failed lifter is replaced although it is known they will all fail at some point. Gm has not acknowledged this problem to the public and they will not issue a recall or correct the problem. I ended up replacing all lifters since my mechanic had already removed the engine and we knew at some point all lifters would have to be replaced. (note: I was only able to upload page 1 of the invoice below).

Check engine light turned on took it in for code results bad firing on plug 7. Replaced still engine running rough and light is still on. 13 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

My vehicle was having trouble starting and idling rough. I brought it in for repairs and was told it needed a new fuel pump and air filter. I had those changed in total spending $1700. Three days later, the check engine light started flashing in my car. I could feel the engine misfiring and was losing power. The oil pressure was fluctuating rapidly. I drove it back to my home and had it towed to the dealership. I was told that the cylinder 4 was misfiring caused by the cylinder deactivation failure which is caused by the automatic fuel management system. This is causing the lifter to fail.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/26/2015

Jan 26, 2015, 91,750 mileage. Sudden suspension stabilizer light, check engine light and running rough. Dealer said brake switch and replaced. Possible other electrical issue also ruled out. Feb. 15, 2015, 92,413 mileage. Same problem now diagnosed as #4 lifter broke. Fixed for half cost. Less than 300 miles later, March 3, same lifter broke again. Three days later on family funeral out of town trip it broke again, same #4 lifter. Three times in 1000 miles is ridiculous. Finally right. . . For three years! Aug. 30, 2018, 136,000+ miles. Multiple broken lifters with cam damage. Rebuild or replace motor for $6500 or more. Replaced with factory gm crate reman. For $7500. Plus tax. All at my cost! why is this not a factory design flaw problem on recall, auto warranty or even completely stop putting this afm lifter on the market. To my best recollection, the vehicle was being driven in regular daily city traffic in little town fernandina beach, florida for three of the four times it broke. One time was highhway travel coming home from sarasota florida. Not just an economic or inconvenience issue but a serious potential for accidents when the vehicle suddenly looses power when this happens. Could be seriously rear ended or t-boned trying to pull out in traffic. From the research I've done so far and the blogs on this issue for nearly 10 years on line, its time to get gm to fix the real problem or stop building it and pay for the repairs.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

At random you will just be driving down the road and a message comes on that says reduce engine power and the t/c light comes on along with the check engine light. This has happened several times, is very unsafe, and is getting worse. We have had work done to try and fix the problem but its still happening. We don't have tons of money to fix this, live in the country, and have 5 kids. This is our only transportation and we have a rather large loan on the thing and its turning into yard art.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/19/2011

While driving vehicle losses power, reduced engine power light comes on. I have taken the Suburban to the mechanic. Change the maf, tps, air filters other sensors that the diagnostic test has pointed out as problems and have had a vehicle tune up done (new spark plugs, wires, oil changed, etc. ) the cost of these repairs has been over $1000 and seem I will be spending more. The problem continues to happen. Reduced engine power while driving. I am afraid this could cause an accident and cause injuries or even death since it happens while driving.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/19/2009

2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 loses acceleration power on highway. Vehicle does not respond to acceleration attempts. Once brake is applied vehicle completely stalls and has no power steering or brakes. This has occurred in highway driving at 70 mph in heavy traffic areas. There is no consistency in occurrences. Happened August 2007 , and Dec. 2007, sept. 2009 and November 2009. Check engine light does not come on. Can not be diagnosed on computer. Gm mechanics can not figure out problem unless it happens to them. Gm refers us to dealership for diagnosing and repairs under these conditions. Don't have the money to put in repairs that may or may not correct problem. Have found many complaints on internet detailing this problem but gm denies any knowledge of this problem. Noticed that 2001 chevy Suburbans have had a recall of crankshaft position sensor and that symptoms are similar to my vehicle. This problem poses a tremendous life and death safety concern for me and my family especially when we are traveling in high traffic areas or in mountain areas.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/22/2009

The check engine light came on, on my 2001 Suburban at 29,000 miles. This was my dads vehicle and was garage kept and driven on trips or to church in rural texas, which is why after 8 years it only had 29,000 miles. I had it scanned at auto zone. A #1 cylinder misfire was detected. I moved the coil, spark plug, and wire to other cylinders to isolate the problem. The scan still detected #1 cylinder misfire even after driving over 50 miles. The misfire was not detectable by the way the truck was running. I went ahead and replaced the injector on that cylinder just to rule it out. Once again after over 50 miles of driving it still scanned as a #1 cylinder misfire. I had planned on taking it to the dealer on Monday, August 24, 2009. On Saturday, August 22, 2009 my wife and daughter were on their way back to the house and the truck died driving down the freeway. They were able to restart it and limp home. I found no compression on the #1 cylinder and took off the rocker arm cover to find a broken spring on the exhaust valve. Had it only been 3 years old it would have been under warranty. This seems to be a bad spring bad luck story. I was curious to know if others encountered the same problem or did the black cloud just dwell over me. Since I can repair it myself I am. This problem might have happened to others without their knowledge since they had it repaired by the dealer. The cost to me for parts is about $350. The greatest cost was gaskets. Repair at a dealer would be between $1500 and $5000 I'm sure (there was a bent valve I replaced, and a mark on the piston I am leaving alone, I'm not sure they would repair just what was needed or go further). It is disheartening when something that should not happen does. There is more I would like to vent here but that is not the purpose of my complaint. I just wanted the complaint registered somewhere. Thanks.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/05/2007

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving 55 mph, the engine completely shut off. The entire vehicle lost power. Prior to the failure, the check engine light flashed and the vehicle would not exceed 55 mph. The vehicle would not restart and was towed. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 116,000.

25 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/10/2006

Vehicle stalls at highway speeds, specifically, under load (up hills, accelerating, etc. . . ) when gas is given, the car stalls. The tach still reads a number, and all cabin electronics remain active, without showing any hint of a problem (no spike, dimming of lights, etc. . . ) engine just dies. (again, this typically happens at highway speeds [40-80 mph. ]) no check engine light comes on, and there is no indication of the possibility of a failure electronically [ie, no "messages. "] the only discernible symptom is sluggishness on the part of the accelerator, as if slamming the accelerator to the floor would cut out the engine, but slowly pushing the accelerator to the floor would permit (somewhat) the acceleration. (mind you, that I almost never push my accelerator all the way to the floor. ) further, any acceleration (however slight,) can cause the engine to stall when the car is in the mood to want to stall. (the problem is somewhat intermediate - it has happened about 10-15 times in the past 6 months, once on the throgsneck bridge in NY. ) the problem has happened on numerous occasions, (the first time around the beginning of July '06, [about 2 occasions on one day, 4 more another day that week,) and then again around October 10th, on which there were another 5 or so incidents. On oct 11th, I brought the car back to the dealership, and they saw no error codes, so couldn't do anything to diagnose the problem. Onstar was similarly unable to diagnose any errors with the vehicle.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

The adjustments made to parking brake did not repair the vehicle. Additionally, the check engine light came on intermittently. The dealership looked at the front end of the vehicle and stated there was nothing wrong. Updated 01/25/06.
