The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving various speeds, the brakes would seize and release without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the vehicle shook violently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

2 Abs Brake Fail problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal was engaged but the vehicle hesitated to respond without warning. The contact was able to avoid an accident. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs brake system failed and the front driver and the passenger side hub bearing assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000.

3 Abs Brake Fail problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Abs failure caused vehicle to travel further than it should have. Ther is a current recall for 1999 Tahoe for the issue of low speed abs initialization but my VIN is not included in the recall. Every time I come to a near stop my abs actuates and the car continues to roll farther than it would if the braking system were working properly.

4 Abs Brake Fail problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact was driving 65 and applied the brakes to to avoid crashing into a deer. The brakes seized and the vehicle failed to respond. The contact lost control of the vehicle and rolled over multiple times. Also, the front and side air bags on the passenger and driver's side failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a concussion and several lacerations. Prior to the crash the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the abs system failed. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for a second opinion who was unable to find any failure codes. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The current and failure mileage was 160,000.

2001 Chevrolet Tahoe abs module failed at 40000 miles. Replaced the part, then it failed again at 80000 miles. Two failures of the exact same safety related component in 80000 miles seems excessive.

While trying to stop while driving at a slow speed my abs fail causing my vehicle not to stop and in 2 incidences we have hit other vehicles. Spoke with dealer and they said abs sensor is problem. This is recalled in the same vehicle in 1999 but my vehicle is a 1998.

The contact stated abs brakes failed. He applied the brakes while pulling into a parking lot and the vehicle kept going. He managed to avoid the vehicle parked in the space in front of him. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer , and they replaced the abs sensor, which rusted. The vehicle was operating normally now. The manufacturer was contacted. They offered no free remedy. Chevrolet has recalled 1999 Tahoes for abs sensor failure due to corrosion. I didn't receive a recall notice, so I called chev. At 1-800-630-2438. Their representative told me that my vehicle's identification number did not fall within the "breakpoint", so my vehicle isn't covered in the recall, despite the fact that I had to have the abs sensors replaced in Nov, 2004 at a cost of $741. The rep. Couldn't explain why my vehicle didn't fall within the so-called "breakpoint". My vehicle's ident. # is 1gnek13r4xj321406. The vehicle has always been used in maine, which is one of the "salt belt" states.

11 Abs Brake Fail problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/04/2004

The contact stated when the vehicle was being inspected he was informed that the rear rotors were flaking and chipping along the insides. He took the vehicle to a local repair shop. The mechanic replaced the rear rotors. Also, he experienced a problem with the front rotors along with the abs intermittently failing. He received anhtsa recall 05v379000 on the abs. Recall repairs was performed. There have been no further problems since the repair. Updated11/29/05.

Failure Date: 10/16/2003

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the abs system was failing and when driving at a slow rate of speed, the brakes would intermittently fail. The vehicle was inspected by the contacts personal mechanic who advised that the failure was within the braking system and that the contact should have the vehicle inspected by an authorized dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired in 2003 under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The dealer advised that the vehicle could be repaired at the contacts expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage 150,000.

We reported to the dealership 5 times that something was wrong with this vehicle. We took it to an independent auto mechanic who discovered that abs sytem was failing. We attended an arbitration where our 2001 Tahoe was ruled defective by theharbitrator and Chevrolet was ordered to repurchase it. The repurchase date was Nov. 8. On Nov 5, the abs lost control and my husband rolled down a 200 ft cliff. We are currently seeking any help we can get.

Abs will work intermittently when applying brakes. Pedal goes hard, then brakes will work. Once abs failed completely. Abs failed again going through a 4 way stop, luckily there was no traffic at the time.
