Hard brake pedal resulting in little or no stopping power when applying the brakes at low speed. To get the vehicle to stop, you must stomp on the pedal as hard as you can. The situation typically occurs when parking. The brake application or two are fine, but after that the brakes fail. And also make a viberation in the brake pedal while sounding rough! was driving to work and brakes pedal went to the floor with no pressure at the pedal.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that after driving for 4 hours at 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard with an abnormal grinding sound. The service brake assist warning message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact engaged the parking brake to stop the vehicle while driving up an incline. The next day, the brakes resumed normal operation on the drive home. The contact stated that since the failure, he had experienced intermittent brake failure while traveling at various speeds, with the same warning light flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to titus-will Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac (2425 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502) and it was confirmed that the failure was caused by a defective vacuum pump. The vacuum pump was replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it remained in their possession unrepaired. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,300.
While parked, the driver's female seat belt buckle end (part #19121538) frequently does not latch. It usually takes multiple attempts to latch. I visited a dealer on 11/5/20, to see what they would do. They contacted gm, who refused to make any remedy, stating it was out of warranty, even though this is a significant safety issue. Vehicle has never been in an accident and there are no visible signs of damage to the buckle end. It is progressively getting worse to latch. Also. The parking brake fails to properly secure the vehicle, even when pushed to the floor. Probably a poor design, even when adjusted properly.

In September of 2019, GMC issued a recall for several GMC vehicles regarding "service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum". As such, the vehicle was serviced at the dealership per the instructions issued by GMC. However, several months later, while operating the vehicle in reverse out of a crowed parking lot, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. Placing the gear in neutral along plus the emergency brake, was required to stop the vehicle. The was an extremely close call to the safety of the surrounding bystanders in the parking lot. Upon discussions with both the dealership and GMC, it was reported that the current recall only reprograms the components (reference the letter issued by GMC and the NHTSA's web site for this recall). It was further commented by both the service manager at the dealership and customer service at GMC, that this will not address all vehicles identified in this recall, meaning more action may be required to fix the underlining issue. In this case, several components were needed to be physical replaced, namely the vacuum pump. In addition, it was acknowledged by both the dealership and GMC that a certain percentage of these vehicles identified in the original recall will experience similar issues (brakes failing to stop the vehicle). During the call to GMC customer assistance (866. 790. 5600), the senior manager refused to take the advice to inform all customers/consumers of this dangerous ongoing risk. Even though it's a known failure, GMC has yet to provide additional notification to consumers that the current recall may fail to address the underlining safety failure to the braking system. GMC should issue a new recall to advice the replacement of the physical components of the vacuum brake assistance system by all effected vehicles immediately. Otherwise, they will not replace the parts unless the consumer experiences an actual failure.
I have a 2015 Tahoe that looses break pressure at idle rpm in drive, once you raise the rpms the brake pressure will come back. We have almost hit multiple vehicles when trying to stop in a parking spot or in line at drive thrus. The problem is the brake vacuum pump is failing and I will be purchasing a new one and replacing it, I have been quoted upwards of $1000 for parts and labor for this faulty part.

On 7 occasions (after 3 they reset the code, then a month later I brought my vehicle in of they had vehicle for 30 days of which put in 3 parts. After 800 at dealership they cancelled remaining warranty with agreement for me to afford payment to fix except it kept happening. While driving 2009 Tahoe driving approached corner and brake system failed. Was able to coast to a stop. Shut off vehicle and restarted vehicle and it started to work fine. It will not fix while driving and it is an extreme safety hazard. Vehicle acceleration has delay or lack of power when accelerating. When attempting to brake, vehicle continues to increase momentum for brief moments. I've had the vehicle back for 2 months and problem with brake failure and acceleration hesitation/in fluctuations has happened and continues to happen. By phone agreement talking with dealership where vehicle was purchased, was going to return vehicle today but the owner bill nettleton refused. I need this vehicle safe so I can drive it or sell it.

I am a police fleet manager that has an all chevy Tahoe fleet. In October 2019, I received notification for chevy recall n192268490 and every vehicle in the fleet was taken in for the recall. The recall was to reprogram the brakes, so braking would still be possible even if the brake booster failed. However, the recall did not address the root of the problem, which is a faulty secondary hydraulic brake assist vacuum pump. I was aware of this problem because I had two Tahoes already have a vacuum booster failure, which resulted in an extremely hard brake pedal which would not stop the vehicle. The problem arises during slow speed braking, such as parking lots or slow speed patrol. Less than a week after taking the vehicles to chevy for the recall, an officer was maneuvering slowly in a parking lot. The vehicle experienced an extremely hard brake pedal and the vehicle failed to stop. The officer was able to turn the vehicle, barely avoiding a collision. Obviously, gm's band-aid recall does not fix or even override the problem. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership, where the service providers agreed the recall was a placebo and there is an issue with the vacuum booster. As per a recent letter from gm, they have given an extended warranty on the vacuum pump, for free replacement. So, obviously they know there is a problem. The liability placed on municipalities, who have no other choice but to use their fleet vehicles with known braking issues, is an unfair burden and risk. Gm needs to recall and replace the vacuum boosters!.

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 5mph, the service brake assist warning light illuminated and the brakes failed to engaged causing the contact to apply the emergency brake which allowed the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer( mac haik Chevrolet 11711 katy fwy, houston, TX 77079(281) 497-6600) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the parts to do the repair was not available. The fauklire recurred multiple times. The contact mentioned that NHTSA campaign:19v645000(service brakes, hydraulic) as a possible solution to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case (9-5634885741)and stated that someone will contact the callback but no response as of yet. The failure mileage was approximately 150,200. Ck.
My brakes failed in heavy highway traffic when trying to merge over. The vehicle was stopped then coasting and brakes would not work. Got towed to dealer for gm recall n192268490. Recall was performed. Brakes failed 45 miles later when slowly backing into driveway. The faulty program that has been recalled is known to damage the vacuum pump yet Chevrolet has only recalled the program and not the vacuum pump. I filed a case with Chevrolet Monday 10/14/19 and was told I would receive a call in 1 to 2 business days. I have not received a call back. I spoke with someone today who said the senior service advisor is scheduled to call me at 9pm Friday 9/18/19. My grandson and I waited over 3 hours for our onstar tow and he is absolutely devastated by the fear he experienced.
Brake pump failed and needed to be replaced. Gm knows of this problem and should do something about it before lives are lost, people are injured or property is damaged (from this point forward).
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving into a driveway, the brake did not stop the vehicle and caused the vehicle without warning. The failure recurred while at a stop sign: the brake failed and caused the vehicle to drive through the stop sign. However, there was no crash reported. The vehicle was taken to the team one Chevrolet Buick GMC dealer (888-518-1576, located at 12899 garrett hwy, oakland, MD 21550) where it was stated that the vehicle was not covered by the recall due to high mileage. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and supported the dealer, the contact received notification of nhsa recall numbers: 19v761 000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes) and 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic) the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. . . VIN tool confirms parts not available for 19v761000 ( electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes) and parts distribution disconnect for 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). Brake failure/ hard brake required to stop vehicle. Vacuum pump failed.
Brakes failed because of faulty vacuum pump. Pulling a trailer at the time, lucky to be alive. Please do something about this before more are injured or killed.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 10 mph and pulling a camper, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to place both feet on the brake pedal and also applied the camper brake. The vehicle finally stopped after applying extreme pressure to the vehicle and camper brakes. In addition, the service brake assist warning indicator illuminated. The contact visited colorado springs Chevrolet (670 automotive dr, colorado springs, CO 80905, (719) 387-1072) where it was diagnosed that a new vacuum pump was needed. The contact bought the pump and installed it themselves. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000. The VIN was unknown.
I initially noticed difficulty with braking while backing out of a parking space at a very low rate of speed. The brake pedal became hard and the vehicle continued to roll backward, with full weight on the brake pedal. Approximately one month later I was in bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go traffic and the brake pedal again hard and the vehicle continued to roll forward. This issue did not occur during normal driving conditions, only at low rates of speed and with frequent, repetive stopping. I took the vehicle to a local Chevrolet service department and they were unable to replicate the issue or identify the problem with diagnostic equipment. I was told by the service manager the problem was likely due to over use of the brakes and the brake is designed to be pumped rather than compressed for more than a few seconds. I took the vehehicle to a second Chevrolet dealership. The service department replaced the brake booster vacuum pump and this seems have resolved the issue. I was unable to drive my vehicle for approximately 2 months due to fear the brakes would fail. The vehicle has 54,000 miles and was purchased new from a dealership.
Brake vacuum pump failure, every so often I am unable to break and it becomes very hard to step on the breaks. I have take I to the mechanic and they are charging me $1100 to get it fixed!!!.
When driving at slow speeds as in a parking lot the brakes fail to stop truck. This happened three times with in a 30 minute time period.
Hard brake pedal resulting in little or no stopping power when applying the brakes at low speed. To get the vehicle to stop, you must stomp on the pedal as hard as you can. The situation typically occurs when parking. The brake application or two are fine, but after that the brakes fail. This same issue appears to be well documented under NHTSA id number 10081053 and gm pit5361b, however those do not include the 2017 model year, and I am seeing what appears to be the exact same issue on my 2017 Tahoe.
I have 77k miles in my chevy Tahoe. Recently, my brakes failed almost causing an accident. My brake pedal became very hard and I was unable to make a sudden stop. If there was another car in front of me it could of been serious resulting in major injuries. My vehicle continued to roll forward approx 20 feet before coming to a complete stop. When I contacted our local gm dealer I was advised to not drive the vehicle and get it towed. I've researched that many of this year and models have experienced the same defect with the brakes. Calling it the faulty vacuum pumps. What is even more frustrating is in September of 2018 I felt vibration in my brakes and the tech recommended to reolace my front brakes which I did. My vehicle is now getting repaired but in the meantime there are millions of the models out on the same roads your family and friends drive on, totally unsafe. Gm needs to recall and make this right for all of us.
Sitting in traffic on I 95 and had total brake failure and began rolling back in traffic and had use emergency brake to stop the car twice. Cannot believe that gm is allowed to sale a vehicle that they now has serious problems and is allowed to put my families life and others at risk of death.

We took a family vacation to NY and almost died because our brakes went out. If you research 100's of people have had their 2016 Tahoe brake pump fail. I am also experience my car jerking. I am beyond myself that a recall hasn't been issued because I am getting ready to go pay for a part that is faulty. You want to make this recall fast or people will die. You cannot have your brakes go out like that!! I didn't spend $50k on a cash less than 2 years ago for my family to die.
The brake pedal becomes almost impossible to depress at low speeds causing the vehicle to roll without the ability to stop. Seems like the brake booster is failing to apply pressure to the brake system. Have read several complaints on this so I wanted to document one more case to push gm for a recall. My family almost had a bad crash the other day due to this and now it happens all the time. Abs is not activating to cause this, it is more a lack of boost in the brake system. We only have 40,000 miles on our truck.
Brakes failed to engage on the vehicle when pressure applied. Occurred multiple times. Gm fails to acknowledge this as a known and widespread issue, yet with a simple google search, you can see it has affected numerous people and vehicles. Sounds like a recall should have been issued by now but yet there are none.
Brake vacuum pump failed during low speed driving causing my wife to nearly collide with vehicle in front of her. She was forced to exit the roadway and go into the median until vehicle could be stopped.
Brakes suddenly became extremely hard to apply at low speeds. Brake pedal was stiff and wouldn't engage. I first noticed it while pulling in a parking space then reversing to straighten the vehicle. The brakes wouldn't engage and I had to press the emergency brake. This first occurance happened approximately 5:00 pm on November 11, 2018 in orlando, FL. At this time, I noticed the issue but after I turned off the vehicle and restarted, it appeared to be resolved. I continued my evening and drove several places and eventually drove back home to tampa, FL without any issues. Upon reaching my destination and attempting to parallel park, the brakes failed again. I turned of the car and restarted it and the brakes did not engage and the brake pedal was stiff. I did not drive it again. I suspected an issue with the vacuum pump and had the vehicle towed to dimmitt Chevrolet in clearwater, FL the following morning. Dimmitt "verified concern. Performed diag. Found engine vacuum pump is weak and not pulling enough vacuum at times. " dimmitt "removed and replaced vacuum pump. ".
At low speeds brakes fail. When you press brakes the car will not stop. I have to put both my feet on the brake pedal to stop.
Brakes failed 3 times, once pulling into parking space, I rolled down a step driveway into street across street and into neighbors yard and once when a tech from dealership was test driving it, he almost hit the building. The vehicle was in motion each incident.
At slow speeds brake hits the bottom and vehicle doesn't stop. Dealer admits brake vacuum failure.
No power assist with brakes, hard pedal, inadequate braking. Found vehicles vacuum pump and line that supplies vacuum to the power brake booster failed.
When driving in low speeds - such as parking or stop/go traffic my brakes fail to work. I try to push pedal down as hard as I can but barely seems to stop. I have had to push my emergency brake pedal more than once to stop an accident from happening I also have a small child that I fear will be hurt if the problem is not fixed. I have taken it to dealership and they say they can't replicate the issue there fore can not fix.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the brakes failed while pulling into a parking lot. The vehicle would not stop and the brake pedal nearly went to the floorboard before the vehicle finally stopped. The brake warning indicator was illuminated. The contact called neilson Chevrolet (1 us-46, dover, NJ 07801, (973) 366-1243) and was informed that diagnostic testing was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired; however, the dealer stated that a brake vacuum was needed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 81,000.
I was driving in traffic going about 5mph and when I applied my brakes they were not working 100% I had to push the pedal to the floor and the truck kept rolling. I had to had to figure out a way to safely move to the shoulder of the freeway to avoid accidents. I waited on the shoulder of the freeway for about a hour for traffic to stop. I was finally able to get off the freeway so I could check the brake fluid it was full. I knew there wasn't a problem with the brakes because they had just been replaced the prior month. I knew the vehilce was not safe to drive home so I left the truck at davis Chevrolet at their night drop. I talked to a service technician and he informed me that he has seen this issue a lot with 2015 Tahoe's, and infact 3 2015 Tahoe's were brought in the same day November 3,2017. Before looking at my vehicle the technician told me it was the vacume pump but he would call me back to let me know for certain. Once they looked at my truck he said it was the vacuum pump that needed to be replaced and it was not under warranty. I don't understand how gm knows about this issue and still does not recall it, this can cause major accidents and potentially cause a life. It's obvious there is a issue with tje vacuume pumps in tje 2015 Tahoe's and gm needs to take responsibility and do a recall before someone dies because their brakes fail due to a vacuum pump not working.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 70 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle without warning. With the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard, the driver was able to drive off the highway and finally stopped the vehicle with the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (rydell Chevrolet in northridge, California) where it was diagnosed that the brake assist failed. The vacuum pump and the belt kit were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that an investigation would be conducted to determine the actual cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 51,871.
The brakes power assist fails after application of brakes in traffic or when reversing. When in heavy traffic situation and when applying light pressure numerous times, the brakes power assist fails and you have to apply very heavy pressure to the pedal to stop. Reversing, the brakes power assist fails almost immediately after initial brake application.
Complete brake failure. Avoided any collision. Cost to repair $1,025. 56. Occured on a busy roundabout. Needed to be towed to dealer for repair.
