Driving along the highway in cruise control at about 70mph without any trailer being pulled. Suddenly I got brake errors. Abs, esc, trailer brake error failures all popped on the dash warnings. Brakes were unresponsive only applying hard pressure to the brake pedal was effective. There was zero feedback from the brake pedal to myself on it engaging and braking effectively. If this happened in a situation requiring more immediate braking, I would not have been able to figure out the braking capability of my vehicle in time. There were no issues with my vehicle at the time. I see that similar issues have been reported on facebook "chevy Tahoe owners group". Unknown whether it's a sensors glitch or a sw issue. After a few hours of being parked the car brake system started to work properly again. Made an appointment to check out they system at the dealership.
I was driving down [xxx] in lapuente and every light on my dash lit up and I attempted to exit freeway and my brakes would not work so I waited for car to slow down and luckily I was near by the puente hills Chevrolet dealer. Also my steering wheel was very lose and it felt that I couldn’t steer well. I pulled into dealership and had to push my brakes all the way to the floor board just for Tahoe to stop. Dealer said that there was various communication codes which they said vehicle would have to stay due to safety issues. My vehicle has been at dealer for 3 days so far information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

There was a recall in 2019 (NHTSA recall no. 19v645000) on certain gm vehicles for vacuum pump failure, which could affect braking and engine performance. The fix usually involved reprogramming the ecm to improve how the brake assist system operates - not necessarily replacing the vacuum pump unless it had already failed. My local dealership did the reprogramming but in 2025 the vacuum pump totally failed and left my vehicle stranded on the interstate. I had to have towed to a mechanic shop and the inside of the pump had broken into 3 pieces. So I had to have the vacuum pump replaced. During this time my car did not have brakes and put me and surrounding vehicles in a very dangerous situation. The mechanic gave me the broken part to show the dealership. The dealership said there isn’t anything they can do for assistance as I am out of warranty. There was a message that came up that said to service the braking system right before they stopped working.

On multiple occasions my vehicle brakes with no warning. So much so I can hear the tires screech ever time. I brought to a dealership and they told me they can’t find the issue and no fault codes. This is understandable due to the fact that it doesn’t always happen. It’ll go so times a full day without happening. It mostly happens on the highway but happened today (24-July-2025) around 17:30. So needless to say this is a huge issue especially seeing I have three small children. Thank you so much for your time in this matter and I hope this finds you well.
I have had the break pads and rotors replaced and in the shot over 6 times with them still not fully functioning correctly. I finally gave up on them and still expected to pay again. I don’t feel like this car is safe and have had nothing but issues.
I was driving down the highway last Friday. I went to slow down to get into another lane and my Tahoe started saying “break failure” and I had no breaks to stop my Tahoe. I pressed the break as far down as I could and had no way to stop. I took my foot off the gas and I drove 10 mph to the dealership 1 mile from my location and coasted to a stop. The dealership called today and said they were needing to replace the entire break module and system. I am so scared to drive my car now. I had my children in the car and I thought we were literally going to wreck.
Need new rotors and breaks purchased this vehicle with this issue and dealership or manufacturer want to fix this serious problem.
There are times that the brake assist will stop working. The bake assist light has started coming on once in a while. I looked up the VIN and it said all recalls were repaired. I have a concern that the vaccume brake issue was not properly taken care of at whatever dealership that claimed to fix the issue.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the brake pedal had to be depressed very hard to start the vehicle. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake vacuum pump was not operating correctly and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to a special coverage adjustment: n182202780 (brake assist decreased due to vacuum loss); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.

My 2020 Tahoe stabilitrak has gone off approximately 5 times over the past 2 months April and may of 2025 in one incident my vehicle did turn off all incidents were at low speeds less than 5 mph. Four of the incidents the stabilitrak light turned on and an audible beep, I also lost power to my steering and breaks. When I had the oil change the service tec at the dealer stated they can not test it unless the light was on? has anyone reported or experiences this issues what can be done to fix this issue. Total system brake failure while driving on interstate. Unable to stop or slow vehicle, had to run off road to avoid traffic and coast to stop.
We are apart of the safety recall with the potential brake and engine issues, we have contacted the dealership and they have no remedy at the current time for our defective vehicle. We contacted gm to request a buy-back due to the safety issues with the vehicle, told we did not qualify but they have no remedy for our defective truck. We do not fell safe in the vehicle, the brakes are sticking and the engine is making weird noises. We are currently seeking legal representation because we are being forced to drive around our family of 5 in an unsafe vehicle with no remedy or option to trade it in.
Unknown but there was many lights on at the time of brake failure. I was driving home from florida to NJ with my four young children in the vehicle on a 65mph highway when all these lights came on, the brakes completely stopped working and it told me it was reducing speed to 62mph for safety because the brakes were failed. It also stated service svc. By the grace of god I was able to off-road it a bit to get it to slow down to a stop. The second time it happened was in my driveway parked. Inbetween the two incidents I brought my vehicle for regular service and asked them to look at the brakes again for me as this is a major safety concern as well as my transmission slipping and they complete refused and only changed my oil.
The body control module does not work. A new bcm was installed in my car in April 2025. Since then I am having multiple issues, but the safety related issue is with the trailer braking system. It is available for inspection upon request. The dealership is unwilling to try another bcm without it costing me $600 for labor. If I am unable to use my brakes, then I put myself and others on the road at risk. The problem started with a tire monitor system. I was told I needed a bcm to fix the problem so the car would not throw codes. Now, I am being told the problems with the brakes are not comiing from the bcm. There was nothing wrong with my car until I took it to this dealership for a new key faub and a tire pressure monitor error. The body control module in a 2018 chevy Tahoe premier does play a role in controlling the sunroof. More specifically, the sunroof system is supplied power through a fuse located in the driver-side fuse box which is connected to the bcm. The sunroof switches communicate with the bcm via a serial data circuit, and the bcm then commands the sunroof to open or close. Therefore, the bcm acts a central hub in the electrical system of the vehicle and communicates with the sunroof control module to operate it. I learned this from two other dealerships. One dealership in west virginia and another dealership in texas told me this information about the bcm controlling the sunroof and many other electrical parts of the 2018 chevy Tahoe premier. To make it simple, the bcm was replaced. The vehicle is now having serious issues. I consider an unintended activation of the braking on the wheel which causes the vehicle to pull to one side puts me at risk of a crash. Is this yet another failed sensor or part due to the negligence of the service department at smith Buick when replacing the bcm and programming a key faub?.
I purchased my 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe in April of 2019 with 4 miles on the dashboard. My vehicle is currently in the shop where I purchased the vehicle. It’s been there going on 3 weeks now. I was driving and my vehicle started losing power. I’m traveling on the highway at the time and my vehicle engine light came on as well and I couldn’t go over 30 without the vehicle losing power. I pulled over just in time before it shut down almost causing an accident . I have been servicing this vehicle 4 months after purchasing it. I’ve had better at a buy here pay here lot. And now I’m without a vehicle due to the liner needs replacing. I was told they had to drop the entire motor to do so. My vehicle has 80,000 + now and I definitely shouldn’t be replacing this component. There are other things going on as well but I’m unaware of the name. Also I purchased every warranty there was to buy when I purchased this vehicle and the dealership failed to acknowledge any one of them. So lucky I had another warranty company to bag me up and they are the ones paying this 4to 5,000 dollars repair. I’ve also had to service the trailer brake system several times. . Never used it since I’ve had the vehicle. . Until I asked them to just disconnect it because it wouldn’t stop. Also 4 months of having the very. . The custom rims ( back passenger side) broke from the inside almost causing me to go into ongoing traffic on the opposite side of the road. . And nearly flip. Meanwhile all this is coming out of my pocket to fix. . Except for this engine repair. . But I do pay the deductible. Many is telling me to get an attorney. But I reached out 1st since I seen where there is a recall but it’s not saying my year of vehicle. Please help. Also. I’m still receiving my oil changes from the dealership. And I get them on a regular. Note: the shop that has my vehicle is not the one listed on the document. But this is what the diagnostic read. And this is what’s being done to my vehicle.

Breaks keep making noises and all four tires need to be forced balanced dealership won’t fix the issues.
-malfunction---while driving, when I press the brakes to come to a stop, it seems as if the brakes catch but then releases and then catches again. As it releases, it continues to roll. Vehicle is availabe upon request. -safety risk--- because the brake releases and/or eventually not catch at all, this is unsafe because I can roll into traffic -reproduced and/or confirmed--- I have brought my vehicle to a service center to repair a recall and was told to that the issue should be resolved once the recall was complete. The issue was temporarily resolved for approximately one month or so, and now it is back to breaking and releasing. -one can only assume that the vehicle and/or its components have been inspected given that I brought the vehicle to the service center, stated the issue, and was told that the issue should be resolved after it has been serviced. -there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to this issue.
Brake vacuum pump.
I went to reverse and my brakes didn’t work, the error then came on dash “break system failure max speed 43 mph” I then had to drift into a parking lot to wait for my car to stop. Car dealership said they can’t find anything wrong, I have images showing the error.
My truck keeps shutting off and steering locks up.
On a few occasions the emergency / parking brake auto releases when parked on a slight incline while the engine is running and transmission is in park.
While driving, without warning my brake system failed and vehicle did not stop when I applied my foot on the breaks. In addition to while driving up a steep incline the engine failed as I was actively applying my foot to the gas pedal causing vehicle to roll backwards. Most importantly I do not feel confident using this vehicle any further knowing that the brakes are not operating as they should, risking my life and my children’s life is nonnegotiable. Someone help please.
My car lost its brakes on [xxx] last December, putting my life and my husband's life in the vehicle at great risk, at that time the vehicle was only 9 months old, after the event the car was taken to the Chevrolet bay dealer in estero, FL, where I bought it with zero miles just a few months ago, it was taken to the dealer to solve the brake problem and the service that corresponded to it, oil change and maintenance by miles, the brake problem was reflected in the Chevrolet application, the dealer offered a supposed repair to the car (December 12, 2024, to December 14, 2024) I have documents that prove that the dealer assured us that the problem had been resolved, that the supposed service was given, but last Thursday, [xxx], just one month after the first accident, the car lost its brakes again on [xxx] at the exit [xxx], causing me to have to drive without brakes, run red lights due to the impossibility of stopping the vehicle, putting my life at risk for the second time. Vacuum pump and vacuum pump belt replacement. Experiencing increased brake pedal effort, hard brake pedal, and increased stopping distance. Confirmed by an auto shop and mechanic that this is the issue. There was special coverage given by general motors to this vehicle to address this issue that expired in November (but I did not know that this existed). The vehicle has not yet hit 150,000 miles. Request to have my Tahoe special coverage warranty extended to address this issue.
On January 21, 2025 while with my family in -15 degrees, the vehicle suddenly went into abs lock. We were completely immobilized and unable to move the vehicle. The following warning lights illuminated on the dashboard:antilock braking system errorservice steering column lockservice traction controlbrake system failure 43 mph top speed. The vehicle was effectively locked, preventing us from driving or even reversing. This left me and my family stranded in a potentially hazardous situation with the freezing temperatures. .
On one morning w/20 something temperature, Tahoe started and immediately shut down. When restarted, multiple malfunction lights were lit: engine, abs/brake, steering column, traction control, etc. Reached onstar for advice to see if Tahoe was drive-able, but only got confirmation of system malfunctions and offered roadside assistance but declined since at home and would call back if needed. About an hour later and several restarts, all malfunction lights finally cleared except engine light, which stayed on for another day or so. Tahoe drove okay during engine light on.
Service trailer brake system message is appearing.
I bought my Tahoe from dan vaden Chevrolet in savannah, GA with approx 58k miles. At around 88k miles I noticed the transmission hesitated when putting into reverse or drive from the park position. I had my transmission fluid changed at 70k and 100k miles. Now, at 112k miles, it has significantly gotten worse with shuddering between gears 1-3 and jerking when in reverse. Major hesitation when accelerating at any speed and high pitched whining noises that randomly happen, even after putting it in park and turning it off. Also, my abs and stabilitrak lights will illuminate and then go off every few days. As well as another random icon that randomly comes and goes. This Tahoe is now unsafe to drive but it’s the only transportation I have. I already missed a radiator replacement recall by 1,500 miles and had to pay for that out of pocket. Now Chevrolet isn’t recalling this transmission when it has over 190 complaints on this website alone, and thousands of others on other online forums. What will it take for the manufacturer to do the right thing? will someone have to die in order for this to become an issue they stop ignoring? we have all spent money we worked hard to earn and deserve a vehicle that’s safe for our families.
1-*: pressure control solenoid valve 3 - stuck off - diagnostic code# p0796 (5/5) permanent 2-*: yes, the cars rear brakes suddenly locked and veered the car off the road. Diagnostic code# p0796 (5/5) permanent - pressure control solenoid valve 3 - stuck off 4*: yes, inspected by a mobile mechanic. Diagnostic code# p0796 (5/5) permanent -pressure control solenoid valve 3 - stuck off 5*: check engine light appeared after the rear brakes locked up. After the check engine light appeared; minutes later the car had extreme trouble driving up my driveway. There was a burning smell coming from the front engine.
Driving down the freeway at 75 mph and the headlight started flickering any time I would use my blinker. 5 minutes later the car automatically breaks hard all by itself along with the dash lights going off and the doors locking and unlocking. 3 days later driving in town taking a hard left suddenly I get alerts on the dashboard saying, "parking assist off" and "stabilitrak" then suddenly my steering wheel jerks violently all the way to the right. This happened 2x when I am driving!!! it is available for inspection upon request. If this steering wheel malfunction happens to someone driving down an interstate someone could die. It just happened yesterday so I have not gotten it in to be looked at yet. There was zero warning it all happens suddenly and out of nowhere.
Vehicle brake module system failed after being replaced one week ago. All of my systems system lights are coming on on my dashboard. I cannot drive past 62 mph. This is the second time that this has happened under a month after vehicle being serviced at a gm dealership.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that occasionally while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the rpm was elevated. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would brake independently while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The check engine and electronic stability control warning lights would occasionally illuminate. The contact stated that restarting the vehicle was a temporary repair; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the windshield wipers activated independently, and all four doors locked independently. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with a fuel injector #6 failure; however, the part was replaced approximately one month prior to the failure reoccurring. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v761000 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes, electronic stability control (esc); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
