1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

My truck is having the exact same problem as noted in recall #05068, NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000, but they state my VIN number is excluded from the recall. This car was operated in michigan. At low speed, coming up to an intersection under 5 mph, for example, the abs kicks on and luches the car forward. I read this has to do with the wheel speed sensors. This has been happening and getting worse for the past year.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

Hello I am experiencing the exact symptoms described in gm recall 05068c "these vehicles may have a condition permitting corrosion to occur between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor. If the brakes are applied while the vehicle is traveling at a speed of greater than 6 km/h (3. 7 mph) but less than 16 km/h (10 mph), the corrosion may cause an unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. If this condition occurred where stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur. " however, my VIN is not included in the breakpoints, even though I have a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. I can demonstrate that this is the problem in two ways, first by reproducing with a scan tool that shows unexpected abs activation during stopping at this low speed, and second after pulling the abs fuse this problem does not happen. This clearly points to the abs issue mentioned in the recall. I have contacted two local dealerships, and after I asked about recalls they said my VIN was invalid. Then I contacted the chevy contact center and they said there are no recalls for my vehicle. So now what - should I just replace the abs sensors and move on, or is there any chance of getting this acknowledged by gm as part of the recall?.

The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 148,250.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

I was pulling into a local gas station and the abs cause me to not stop in time. . I ended up hitting the building. . . Cracking the brick work. . . The night before u notice the same thing. . . Hopping when I was at a slow speed trying to stop but this was very brief and I stopped. . . I looked on line and saw there was a recall for the wheel speed sensor. . This defect cause increase stopping distance. . . I then called Chevrolet to see if the recall affect my vehicle, but the only open recall was a head restraint. . I took it to a local chevy dealer to get it fixed, as I was driving there the abs light came on. . The code the pulled was for the front right wheel speed sensor. They did have the part available due to the recall which fit my vehicle, but yet mine was not recalled. . .

5 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

First recall NHTSA campaign id number : 05v379000 I have experienced unwanted anti-lock brake activation during low speed braking. This has occured several times in the past year (2012-2013), which would have resulted in a crash without evasive maneuvers and luck. I have called Chevrolet several times to ask about the original recall, which my vehicle was a part in. My vehicle was serviced in the first recall, which requires the technicians to inspect and clean the speed sensors. Well I guess the sensors have become dirty again and symptoms are reoccuring (vehicle has been in the "salt belt" area its entire life). Chevrolet will not service vehicle under current recall. I still see many of these popular vehicles on the road and think that their sensors may too become dirty again causing accidents. I think that it is due diligence for cheverolet to continue to "clean" these sensors since they have issued a previous recall and the only fix was to "clean" the sensor and surface. Thank you for your time.

6 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

I came out of my house, started my truck to warm it up . Then I drove to the corner of my block, and my brakes suddenly went all the way to the floor. I proceeded to add brake fluid not sure what the problem was . There was no response after pumping the brakes multiple times, my vehicle is an 02 chevy Tahoe . So I drove the car very slowly and cautiously back to the house. I looked up this problem on the internet . When I found that their were problems surrounding the speed sensor and breaking of this vehicle. I could have been getting on the highway when this occurred on thanksgiving day.

8 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

I was driving my 2001 chevy Tahoe at moderate speed when the abs and parking indicator light come on. In addition there was pulsing which I believe is from the abs system when I tried slowing down from 25 mph. I did research on TSB and did find there was an issue with this kind of problem affecting gm SUV from 2000-2006 regarding speed sensor and corrosion of brake lines . I informed the chevy dealer of this TSB and they refused to acknowledge this issue and wanted me to pay in excess of $1200 to fix this problem. I feel the dealer representing gm is not acting in good faith. As I told them this is a safety issue and not asking for anything unreasonable considering the assistance from tax payer. I appreciate your assistance. Regards.

9 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the abs system would independently engage when driving at low speeds, increasing brake stopping distance. 11 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Failure of abs speed sensors causes unexpected increased stopping distance. Same symptoms as NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000. Occurs nearly every time you attempt to stop at a slow speed. Could be a bigger problem in slippery (I. E. Snow/ice) conditions. Abs safety component is to make braking safer, a failure of an abs component should not make things worse. The abs component should be "fail-safe. ".

12 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/12/2008

For about a year I have noticed that the abs braking system activates intermittently on dry pavement at slow speeds, making it difficult to stop the vehicle. The issue has become increasingly problematic, activating nearly every time I apply the brakes (many times even if I don't apply the brakes!) and I am not comfortable driving the vehicle for fear that I may not completely stop before making contact with the vehicle in front of me. Although there is a recall regarding the failure of the abs system on chevy Tahoes, it does not include vehicles manufactured in 1997. I researched the problem and found that the NHTSA web site had posted a remedy: remove the wheel speed sensor and clean the wheel speed surface, grease the mounting surface, reinstall the wheel speed sensor and check the peak-to-peak output voltage to ensure the wheel speed signal is within specifications. I took a copy of the remedy to my mechanic, who promptly followed the instructions and notified me that the remedy failed to fix the problem. I contacted an NHTSA customer service representative and asked if an investigation has been launched regarding this defect and was informed that there is no investigation as of yet. With all of the complaints I have been reading regarding this problem, my question why hasn't this issue of abs system failure in 1997 Tahoes been addressed? if the problem is occurring in vehicles (regardless of the year model) and the recall has been limited to only a few year models, does this mean that the abs system failure on the 1997 Tahoe is no cause for concern regarding safety? I am requesting the board to look again at the abs complaints and initiate an investigation so that gm will take financial responsibility for the repair or replacement of the abs system. Thank you.

13 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

Abs activates at speeds below 7mph while braking. Have almost run into a vehicle and person due to this failure. The Tahoe was originally purchased in texas but has been in PA. For 3+ years. My vehicle should have been included in the recall but I was told it was not, doesn't make sense.

17 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/25/2007

Vehicle did not stop at intersection when brakes were applied. The abs sounded as if it had engaged but my wheels did not stop. I had my 2 children in the vehicle and fortunately nothing was coming and therefore no one was hurt or killed. I reviewed the NHTSA website to investigate and found that campaign number 05v379000 covers this problem and that a recall had been issued to remove corrosion from the speed sensors and apply rust inhibitor. I contacted apple Chevrolet in york, PA and on 2/28/07, they found the that my wheel speed sensors had excessive rust build up. I was also informed that my vehicle was not included in this recall. I was charged $241. 65 for these repairs and I feel that I should not be responsible for this. How can oer 1. 3 million vehicles made between 1999 and 2002 be recalled for this same problem and my vehicle is not included?.

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe is plagues with activation of the abs system at low speeds (ie bumper to bumper traffic or slowing to a stop sign/traffic light) when the abs system engages thedriver has no input to the brakes and the stopping distance is greatly increased leading to possible and likely crashes. I happens intermittantly, but numerous times daily! dealer is aware of an existing recall involving 1999-2002 gm vehicles from my area. . But will not cover my $700 for repairs that shoul dbe covered by the recall (NHTSA # 05v379000 wheel speed sensors).

20 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/01/2006

Gm re call notice # 05068b - front wheel speed sensor corrosion - multiple chevy, GMC vehicles; my 1999 Tahoe was excluded from the re call yet had exhibited the same exact failure mechanism; car was un safe to drive as abs activation occurs without reason and car would not stop; I replaced sensors at my own expense, but gm will not recognize the re call as being applicable to my 1999 chevy Tahoe. I asked gm service center for coverage on the re call but they refused.

21 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/15/2006

Abs speed sensors are faulty as per a recall on 1999 chevy Tahoes, gm states that my vehicle is not part of the recall, I went to the dealership, the told me they could lube and clean the parts, then they told me they were frozen and would have to be replaced. Since I didn't have the extra money they offered to unplug the abs sensors so they would not kick inn. I am not sure how they can guarantee that the parts on my car are not the faulty ones that were placed on the vehicle at the factory.

22 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/25/2006

My Tahoe was recalled for a brake sensor issue. (recall # 05v379000) tom gill Chevrolet in florence said they could not fix it because I lived in kentucky and not ohio. In the meantime they replaced a power steering pump for $700. They later called me and said I needed all new brakes, and if I let them do that (for $600 more) that they would fix my sensors for free. I declined and took my car to carx. They looked at my brakes and said they were fine. Then I went to pep boys and they also said my brakes were fine, only the (recalled) sensor was bad. I called general motors, and they said because I live in kentucky and not 5 miles away in ohio or 10 miles west in indiana, they would not fix it. This car gets driven in as much snow and ice as any in ohio if not more. I travel for business. I do not trust the brakes as the stopping distance varies in low speed. It's been going on for a long time but is getting much worse.

23 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

26 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/23/2005

This is to address the recent expanded recall of gm light trucks/suvs. I have a 1998 Tahoe and have been experiencing the exact same issues that have caused gm to recall the trucks/suvs due to rust affecting the abs system. I brought my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership and they confirmed that I am experiencing the same corrosion related issues that are addressed by the recall - however, because I have a 1998, gm will not provide me any assistance. When I inquired as to whether the wheel hub assembly (that houses the wheel speed sensor) in my vehicle is any different than the vehicles being recalled, the dealership confirmed that there was not any difference. My complaint specifically addresses the fact that gm has acknowledged that there is a faulty design in the wheel assembly, however, will not take any action to remedy this situation - ultimately leaving my vehicle (as well as many others built in 1998 or 1997) as unsafe to operate.

Failure Date: 10/31/2005

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicles abs system activated and the brakes failed to activate when engaged. As a result, the contact crashed onto the back another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the failure was a result of a faulty speed sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 155,000.

29 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/13/2005

No accident yet. My 1997 Tahoe is exhibiting the same symptoms as described in the media for 1999 and newer gm trucks regarding the wheel speed sensor for the antilock brakes. Stopping from speeds under 5 mph, the brake pedal chatters, the antilock brake unit moans, and the truck is slow to completely stop. This started sporadically last winter and has gotten worse, now about 30% of the time. I called Chevrolet's customer service today (10/13/2005) at 11:10, spoke to bagaya bonner who told me the recall affected 2000-2002 Tahoes. Mine would not be included, and if I had the problem fixed, it would be at my expense (gm would not reimburse since there was no recall on my vehicle). I am using today's date as the incident date, but the problem began late fall 2004 and is ongoing.

30 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

He notified the manufacturer and made them aware that the failure recurred. A representative stated that because of high mileage, they would not assume any responsibility. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 95,000. The current was 123,000. Updated 10/27/09. The consumer stated when stopping at low speeds the brake pedal vibrated and made a rumbling sound. At times, it would take longer stopping distance to stop the vehicle. The abs wheel speed sensors were replaced. Updated 10/29/09.

31 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

There has been a recall issued for 2000-2002 Tahoe for front wheel speed sensor corrosion (product safety recall 05068) from gm. This should have also included the 1999 Tahoe. This abs issue is currently happening to my Tahoe. Its been occurring since the middle of 2005. I heard of the upcoming safety recall back in August 2005. But when I took my 1999 Tahoe to the dealership, they stated my VIN# was not on the list for recalls. When I looked deeper into this recall, it only includes 2000-2002 Tahoe. I know of this happening on another 1999 Tahoe sport. It would be nice to have gm expand the recall coverage to include all 1999 Tahoe.

32 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/15/2005

Vehicle goes into abs mode at slow speed stop. On dry driveway almost ran into my own door. Took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer and brake system was inspected. Found it necessary to replace both front speed sensors. Also had to replace 1 broken caliper bolt as necessary. Total cost $697. 47. Recall was issued for 1. 35 million trucks and suvs for brake sensors. Our truck being a 1999 Tahoe was not covered. All other chevy trucks were.

33 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

: the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds of 3 to 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. Upon inspection both wheel speed sensors were corroded due to salt on the highway. There is a NHTSA recall, 05v379000 regarding the anti lock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The consumer stated the abs warning light never illuminated. Updated 03/03/06.

34 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/05/2005

Front wheel speed sensors fail and so do the brakes. . . Very hard to stop the vehicle. Two feet on the brake pedal and push like hell.

35 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/02/2005

Beginning in July, the consumer had a problem with the brakes during low speed brake applications. When approaching a stop sign, the brakes would grab. The brake pedal would fluctuate. There was a feeling like being on ice. The problem happened about 85-90 percent of the time. The problem became worse with time. The consumer checked on the recall 05v379000. His vehicle identification number was not included according to the dealer. They stated that the owner has the old wheel speed sensors and those were not affected by the recall. The consumer would like to alert NHTSA that his vehicle still has the exact problem listed in the recall. The consumer has not repaired it yet. The consumer has almost rear ended a car due to the abs activation and extended stopping distance. Update 1/11/2006 -.
