Service Brakes Problems of Chevrolet Tahoe - part 2

1st incident- engine had a bad lifter and cam shaft with 46,000miles. When this happened I was going through a railroad crossing, if the failure was bad enough and locked the engine up I would have been stuck on the tracks with my family. This issue could cause the motor to lock up if the lifter or cam shaft had a more serious failure. Dealer confirmed the lifter and cam shaft were bad and replaced. The engine had a vibration 2 weeks before the failure but the dealership could not identify or duplicate the issue. Vehicle was in the shop for 35 days to repair. 2nd incident- parking brake and brake system locked up and would not release until the vehicle was reset. Scheduled vehicle to be towed in and the brakes locked up again while loading the vehicle to tow. Dealer is still troubleshooting the issue after 5 days. Errors on screen "forward collision system unavailable, brake system failure 43mph top speed, service steering column lock, service traction control, service esc, service brake pad monitor" if this happened while on the highway it had the chance to cause a serious wreck.

While driving at low speeds, I am experiencing difficulty with braking. The brake becomes very hard to press down and it takes me longer to stop. I researched this and came across a recall for a vacuum pump issue. I believe this is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. However, when I input my VIN into the recall website, it says my vehicle is not included in the recall. How can I get this issue covered without having to pay out of pocket (we were quoted over $700). I fear that I may cause an accident if I am unable to stop.

The brake vacuum pump is bad. It was hooked up to solious and that's the codes it's throwing. Out of no where while driving on the highway my brake pedal became very stiff and difficult to push down. I could barely stop in time off the exit. Now when the truck is in drive it doesn't even move. When you do go u have to put all your might into pressing the brake down to stop. Even then the pedal won't go down. Very dangerous especially since I had my [xxx] daughter with me. Very scary situation. I looked up recall for VIN but I have 0. Which is weird because there's a recall on 2016 chevy Tahoes for this exact symptoms and part. Now I did go to [xxx] and found a recall under my VIN and also a warranty for this part under my VIN. I called my local Chevrolet dealership to get the recalled on my Tahoe fixed and they can’t fix the recall for a full month. I’m very concerned because it’s a recall on the vacuum pump so it affects my brakes. My truck is a daily driver so I will have to gamble for a month on the streets and pray the brakes don’t get any worse.

While my wife was driving her car going down a slope, her brake pedal fell to the floor loosing brakes and would not return to normal position for a few minutes. I took the vehicle into the dealership over two weeks ago and they have not been able to re-create the situation that took place while my wife was driving the car and still have not returned the vehicle. My concern is that my wife will not feel comfortable driving the car with our toddler and new born if there is no actual repair.

Brakes system failure message on highway and couldn’t use brakes without standing on them. Once came to a stop in breakdown lane tow driver took us to closest Chevrolet dealer where we were told our vehicle was unsafe to drive and was basically a toboggan. If we weren’t in slow moving traffic we would’ve been in a serious accident. Dealer confirmed by running computer on car that the brake system motor stopped working and lost communication with power steering, transmission, central gateway, brake system control, and engine control. Waiting to see if this is a software issue or if brake motor needs to be replaced. Either way feels very unsafe to drive.

Brakes failed pedal went to the floor when getting off the interstate. Kept pressing pedal and came back but vehicle pulls to the left hard when brake pedal is also very hard to press. Very unsafe afraid to drive the vehicle. Dealer has recalls for same model vehicle show under my VIN . Vehicle is available for inspection at anytime.

I was driving with family (2 adults - including myself, and 5 kids - ages [xxx] ) the truck started to flash warnings and my brakes disabled. We couldn't stop and almost had an accident. I kept pumping the brakes and the e break I didn't give it any gas and we slowly came to a stop after some time. I shut the truck off as I was beyond terrified and tried to start it back up. The lights came on but it didn't turn over to start. Had to have it towed and find an uber for a 7 passenger car. The truck was towed to the nearest dealer (a little over an hour from my home) and I was told it was a battery issue. They replaced the battery didn't check the breaks and told me if the battery dies the breaks stop working. Yet, I had power in the truck just no brakes, when I tried to turn it on the lights went on as did the radio but that was it. I tried to take pictures of the warnings on the dash however we were in mom panic mode. Chevy is acting as if this isn't an issue. I had to put out over $1,100 between the battery, the fees of the dealership, rental and an uber. If we were going at a higher speed we would have not been okay. It was beyond dangerous and the thought that if a battery suddenly dies you have no breaks, that is just unacceptable. I would love for someone to look into this. I am now looking to see what I can do as I don't feel safe in the truck. I don't want this to happen to anyone else hence why I am asking for someone to please look into this. Brakes shutter in reverse. Sometimes don’t work when backing out. Almost as if brakes go limp or no connection.

Keeps saying service trailer brake system and does not stop ringing in the dashboard it’s very distracting while driving .

Vehicle was fine until the front calipers, pads, rotors were replaced. Then randomly started loosing braking power. Brakes are fine , new. Randomly when using brakes brakes will work , then loose pressure. No stopping power, petal goes to the floor and all the warning li come 9n. Have to reset code to get brakes again. Then at random they quit working again code c12fe abs pressure pump loss.

When trying to brake the Tahoe seems to not want to stop. The Tahoe comes to a rolling stop or like it is in sand trying to stop. It eventually stops but not when you want it to. Happens more at low speeds then high speeds. . No lights have indicated a problem. And doesn’t do it all the time but you as a driver can’t trust the brakes! I have had my mechanic look at it he can’t find a problem because when he drives it the Tahoe won’t do it for him. Hasn’t been in an accident yet.

While traveling on the highway at 65 mph the car comes to a complete stop with no brakes applies. No engine light present nor were the emergency braking lights on. This is the 4th occurance.

When I am going slow backing up, it feels like I have no breaks. Also, if I am pulling into a parking place real slow, it feels like I have no breaks and the truck continues to roll.

Went to start my vehicle 10min prior to me taking off. Five min into my drive I felt my Tahoe start to lose power stop shifting. Once I was able to pull over to a safe location put the car into park and put the car back into drive and the car will not move.

Bought new and there was a brake pad sensor message immediately that we took it to the dealer several times for and nothing was done other than clearing the code and giving it back. Was in accident 1/24 and it was found that there was a frayed/damaged wire in the break module and break pad sensor that I feel could have led to the accident.

While pulling up to the drive thru window to pick up our food, at very low speed, vehicle would not stop had put all of my body weight on brake pedal to get it to stop and avoid hitting car in front of us.

While driving this rental vehicle in traffic it shutdown and came to an abrupt halt. All lights on the dash were flashing, emergency hazard lights would not turn on. Attempted to restart vehicle with no result. After 2 minutes vehicle dash lights went off and hazard lights were able to be turned on. Vehicle then restarted. While pulling vehicle off the road, brakes were not responsive.

Caliper became stuck which produced smoke coming from tire. Had the caliper replaced. Then months later my forward collision system activated because a car in front of me stopped abruptly. After the car automatically braked to slow my car down, the brake never released and became stuck and the abs light came on. Replace the abs sensor and two days later the brake engaged on its own while doing 60 mph on the highway. Now whenever the hill assist, collision warning, or anything else is activated, the brake engages and gets stuck. In addition, at times on the highway my brake will engage on its own.

On Wednesday, 11/15/23, I was sitting in my vehicle while it was parked and running for several minutes. After a few minutes, the alert chime went off and the message "service trailer brake system" was displayed on the dash notifications. This alert persisted for several minutes. Since this initial incident, the same alert has displayed 3 or 4 more times, but while driving. It repeats persistently, causing a major distraction, blocking my speedometer, and disabling bluetooth features. I nearly wrecked because of the distraction and have not been able to tow my trailer because of the risk of of the trailer brakes not working. I have an appointment scheduled with my mechanic on 11/28/23 to get this repaired, but have recently learned of several incidents of this same alert from other gm vehicle owners. This seems to be a defective wire harness and needs to be recalled as it is unsafe and renders the vehicle useless for many intended purposes.

2017 Chevrolet Tahoe brake booster vacuum pump failed and had to be replaced. Booster sensor as well at cost of $1,493. 22. Our vehicle almost hit another car in line for pre-school with children around and almost hit our garage doors due to this issue. Full recall in canada but not USA? why? "the amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time. As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash".

Brake assist failure at low speed making vehicle extremely hard to stop. Gm recall n182202780 does not cover all VIN numbers of the model years affected. Gm states this VIN number is not covered yet the vehicle has the exact failure outlined in this recall.

While driving the breaks failed to work. Then when I started pumping the brakes again it took longer than normal to respond and I had to press really hard. I was only going a few miles per hour in a parking lot. Now 5 days later it's happening all the time. It's also making a click noise when I press the pedal.

While driving in atleast in awd and I think it happened in 2wd. My abs light comes on with stabilitrack and trailer break. Once that happens driving feels weird like breaks are closing in. Turning is extremely difficult cause it feels like all this are breaking. Then once I stop the car it kicks forward after the car is off.

The brakes become very hard to engage while at a low speed, consistently in traffic and the car rider line at school. It has caused me to almost hit cars in front of me and people walking between cars. To me, it feels like the brakes are sticking and not releasing fully when I release the pedal to recoil and as if a line is going to be filled with pressurized air to work again and it is not able to do so. If I wait and let the cars go far ahead of me and the blast without using brakes, there isn’t a need to keep using the brake m, but this is not how to drive in traffic and it isn’t safe. It also is scary to not rely on the function of my brakes and it is putting people at risk every day I drop my kids off or kick them up from school. I have had the brakes evaluated for repair, but I am told there is no issue with the brake pads or roters. No warning lights. It resolved after having my brakes evaluated and tires replaced, but it has returned.

Vehicle reduced power and displayed many errors on the dashboard, including reduced function of forward collision avoidance, reduced acceleration, esc ses tc. A vibration/rumble was observed (unsure if it was steering assist or propulsion surging), as well as increased engine speed without vehicle acceleration and no engine speed increase while pressing the accelerator. Turns seemed to make the symptoms worse and cycling power on the truck would temporarily clear the faults. Root cause was determined to be TSB 21-na-149 cause 3 and diagnosis and repairs took more than a week.
