Torque converter went out completely causing me to have to replace the entire transmission, drive very low miles and do not pull/tow anything. Our Dodge & Ford both have well over 260,000 miles on them and have never had an issue. Cheap part were used in this Tahoe causing major repair failures and costs to repair.

Shake/shudder while driving straight on highway at 72 mph up to at least 90 mph. Steering wheel, center counsle, and seats shake. Goes away when not accelerating. Balanced tires and did not fix. Dealer then balanced tires and alignment was completed. This also did not fix. Dealer kept my car for almost 2 weeks and replaced torque converter. This still did not fix it. Have to take it in for a 3rd time. Make me feel dizzy and nauseous.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light, followed by abnormal acceleration. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injector needed to be cleaned yet, the remedy failed to repair the problem. The vehicle was taken back to dealer who then replaced the converter but to no avail. The vehicle was then taken to a local repair shop for a second opinion who diagnosed that the torque converter and the transmission were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 40,000.

1. Knocking in front end, intermittent steering shaft is out. I have been on waiting list since September 2003 and still not fixed. (in a wreck this component is what keeps the steering rod from projecting into the cab; per Chevrolet mechanic). 2. Sept. 2003 transmission: grinding/vibrating sound in the middle of vehicle (think this is my torque converter), neutral position from a complete stop and while driving. Been in shop on 2 occasions and still not fixed, mechanic says the vehicle computer doesn't show any problems, so they won't fix it!
3. Front differential leaking. Jan. 2004 to be fixed when steering shaft gets fixed!
4. Passenger heaters come on by themselves. Nov. 2003 still not fixed
5. Front driver's seat won't hold memory settings. Nov. 2003 still not fixed.

The consumer complained about six month ago about problems with the transmission. The dealer replaced the torque converter, six month later, the transmission failed while driving 40 mph. The dealer rebuilt the automatic transmissions at the owner expense. The transmission was completely rebuilt and had been serviced prior to purchase which included a transmission flush. The vehicle leaked fluid, found front pump leaking due to the bearing failure(both were removed and replaced), when the vehicle would get warm, a loud rattling noise would be heard, the a/c would get warm, the fan would stop blowing(fond terminal burnt/wiring repaired), the transmission slipped upon acceleration(found the input carrier bearing coming apart and metal throughout/the transmission was completely reconditioned).

After driving 30 miles at highway speed, I stopped to exit the highway. When I began to turn left, I heard a loud clank in the rear of the vehicle. I continued for about 5 more miles and parked the vehicle. After allowing the vehicle to rest for approx. 8 hours, I backed the vehicle out and began driving home. The drive was approx. 30 miles at 75-80 mph. Iafter stopping to exit the highway, the transmission made a loud whinning noies as though it was slipping, the engine reved to about 3000rpm befor ethe transmission would shift. This happen ever time I excellerated from a stop or from slow coasting (3 more times in 6 miles). When I arrived home, I checked the fluid level, it was fine and there was no discoloration of the oil or any abnormal smell. When I attempted to back the vehicle, it would not go into reverse, I would drive forward, but the slipping continued when it was road tested by the repair shop. I loaded the vehicle on a trailer and trailered it to a repair shop. The following was found to have failed. The sunshell failed causing debris to be circulated through the transmission. The reverse gear did not function anymore, the torque converter was contaminated with debris and had to be replaced as it could not be cleaned locally. Sprage and numerous gears and bands were damaged as a result. Total cost of repair with labor and tax. . . . $2453. 17. There was no warning or condition that lead up to the failure. The vehicle only has 65,600 miles on it. Pretty sad performance for a tranmission designed for this type vehicle.

When vehicle was in over-drive between speeds of 40 - 43 mph, there was a vibration in the front end. Although the dealership has serviced the truck several times the cause of the noise is still undetermined. There was a loud vibration when the vehicle was in 2 wheel auto drive and at speed of 40-45 mph/1200 to 1400 rpms shifting into over-drive going uphill and or pull on engine. May be a torque converter problem. This was an ongoing problem which had not been resolved.
