5 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

I own a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. It has a severe brake problem. Sometimes when you are going under 40 and step on the brakes the abs seems to activate making a loud noise and the vehicle does not want to stop unless you stand on the brakes and then it stops slowly. I had a complete brake job done and it didn't get any better even though I took it back 2 more times. . Read more...

7 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/06/2006

I own a 2000 chevy Tahoe. For the past 2 years, I experienced occasional problems stopping under 10 mph due to the faulty activation of the abs. On several occasions I barely avoided a dangerous crash. I called art moehn Chevrolet in jackson, michigan about the problem and was told I could make an appointment to have the problem repaired. No mention was made of the possible recall. I took the vehicle to art moehn Chevrolet in jackson, michigan on April 7, 2006. The problem was repaired at a cost to me of $241. 60. I did research on the internet about the abs problem and located a recall for 1999-2002 gm trucks (see nhsta recall campaign number 05v37900). I contacted the dealer and was told that my VIN # was not part of the recall. The brake work done on my 2000 Tahoe is the exact repair sent to chevy dealers by gm for the recalled vehicles (see gm bulletin # 05068b). I am seeking full reimbursement of my costs for repair under the recall notice. Thank you.

8 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/21/2005

Anti-lock braking system failure. Pump on anti-lock braking system continues to run causing pump failure unless customer disconnect fuse at panel. Upon disconnecting fuse the anti-lock braking system is useless as is the traction control feature. All lights, abs, traction assist, brake become illuminated on dash board. I feel this is a hazardous condition due to the driver not having the anti-lock brakes or traction assist. I've talked with numerous owners of the same type vehicle and they all have the same complaints. The only repair is to replace the electronic brake control module (ebcm) that is mounted to the top of the abs pump. Gm is charging in the ballpark of $700-$900 for this part and they are aware of the problem.

9 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/31/2005

My 1997 Tahoe exhibits the same antilock failures that are listed for the 1999 models for NHTSA campaign id no. 05v379000 but it is not included in the recall. The same is the case for gm recall no. 03023/NHTSA id no. 05v37900, the windshield wiper circuit board. I have the same failures continuously in my '97 chevy Tahoe but the recall was extended only to suburbans. As a former gm engineer I know that the same parts and suppliers are used across the board for all of the gmt 800 series (tahoes, suburbans, yukons, etc. ). So I don't understand how one model can be recalled when essence all models should be recalled.

Failure Date: 08/04/2005

12 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/27/2005

Abs ebcm shorted causing abs failure, abs dummy light to come on, and abs pump to run incessantly. Had to pull fuse on abs to prevent abs pump wear/failure, which caused brake dummy light to come on - could not tell at the time if this was due to removed fuse or actual brake problem. Dealer cost to replace is $1100 although this is obviously a common problem with this unit (on many vehicles) - am having part repaired by 3rd party instead for $150 - hopefully will not cause other brake problems.
