The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The power steering shaft and the brakes werenot operating normally. The brake calipers, rotors, pads and brake lines were repaired, due to the passenger front brake smoking with a lift flame. The failure mileage was 20,000. The contact stated that due to the year of the vehicle the failures should not have occurred. The current mileage is 26,000.

Rotors warping with normal use every 3000-4000 miles. Had to redo front brakes 5 times in 20,000 miles. Replaced rotors, pads, calipers, brake hose, rotors turned and still have problems.

Dealership is trying to charge me $900. 00 to replace rear pads, emergency pad and new rotors. The vehicle was in for inspection at 74504 miles and reported to me that the pads had 50% usage. Now 9 weeks later they tell me that the rotors have a problem of flaking and that caused the unusuall wear to the pads. They mentioned that they have seen this occurence in as little as 11,000 miles. If this is true, there are many vehicles out there that could suffer braking problems without due notice. I wanted to check if this is in fact a problem with these vehicles, or if it is just a "scam" by the dealership to get me to buy new rotors, or if I was misinformed at my last inspection and they are trying to cover up their error.

Brakes on right passenger's side keeps wearing down metal to metal. Had replaced 5 times. Dealer contacted.
Chevrolet has 3 other cases open that have not been resolved. When applying the brakes hard to stop suddenly the vehicle pulls hard to the right. The dealership has tried tires, brake pads, rotors etc. . It appears all new Tahoes do this as I drove another brand new one and it does the same thing. The service manager has opened tac case # 5303279 with Chevrolet. The service manager informed me that Chevrolet already has 3 unresolved cases. The service manager said the problem is in the brake system as the rear passenger brake seems to activate first when brakes are applied hard for a sudden stop. This throws the rest of the vehicle to track to the right which must be abruptly corrected by the driver. The service manager informed me that Chevrolet has no fix. The service manager also said they clamped the rear brake lines on my vehicle and this fixed the problem, which proves the problem is in the rear brake system. I am very concerned as I bought this vehicle to tow my boat. If I must apply the brakes suddenly (which can happen quite often when towing) I will lose control of the vehicle. The problem is not noticeable under slow/smooth braking. The problem is worse the faster you are going. Therefore, at highway speed the vehicle will easily lose control. I test drove another brand new Tahoe at the dealership and it has the exact same problem. The service manager also said he tested a used one and it had the problem as well.

Brakes failed at 19,443 miles. Both pads and right rotor needed replacement. Dealership will not stand behind warranty even though there are service bulletins out on both the brakes and rotors.
Warping of front discs/rear drums and premature wear of pads/shoes @ 15k miles. Dealership aware that there is an issue but not covered under warranty except unwritten 12/12. Had rotors and drums turned and new pads installed. Problem has been corrected and will hopefully last.
Front end shimmy at speeds over 50mph. Balanced and rebalanced tires, aligned front end 3 times in 6 months. Finally replaced all 4 tires w/new firestone tires. Aligned front end w/new tires. 3 months later, rotated and balanced tires - front end shimmy continues to occur. Have tried alignment, balancing tires, and new tires. Not acceptable to have significant front end shimmy beginning at 15000 miles. Also increased vibration when braking - rotors have already been replaced twice and vibration that shakes steering wheel continues to occur when braking.

The discs and the cylinder have been replaced twice and now need to be replaced for the third time. If we drive in the nearby smokey mountains the brakes begin to smoke soon after starting downhill where more braking than usual is required. We have been told by the GMC dealer where we purchased the Tahoe that the brakes on the 1996 vehicle were too small and have since been upgraded on later vehicles. Yet they charge us to replace the brake discs or cylinder. We basically can not drive in any mountain areas with just passengers, much less pulling anything.

There was bad vibration when putting on brakes, truck would shake. Then, pedal seemed to go to floor. Took to Chevrolet 7 times to have different parts replaced for brakes. Consumer stated that a month ago brakes had just been serviced, and on yesterday brakes locked up.
Dealer reported that master cylinder failed, had to replace along with front brake shoes and pads, rotors turned. We were charged for all this, dealer charged that it was normal wear and tear. We have found numerous other people who have experienced the same problem. Think that master cylinder is a defective part. . Unfair to charge owners for this. . . Could lead to serious crashes, mine failed without warning!.
Dealer gave consumer front & back brakes all the around & they were just changed. Brakes were always purcahsed from dealer (delco). Brake drums pads & rotors were changed. Dealer was saying it was normal wear. Last time they were changed was in August.
Front disc brakes do not function properly. I bought this vehicle in may 1997. Approximately 6 months after driving this vehicle I started noticing front disc brake problems. The vehicle was taken to gunderson Chevrolet were they "grinded" and lubed front "knuckles?" . Problem continued and consisits of "jerky" and "clunky" front brakes. Vehicle has been taken to a private repair shop were front disc pads were replaced and front rotor were turned due to warping. Vehicle continues to exhibit a "jerky" braking motion which is annoying and could possibly cause an accident due to improper braking. I believe that this front brake system is very poorly designed and would expect that gmac should repair this $35,000 vehicle which should have a reliable and smooth front braking system. I sent the follwing to gm>>>I own a 96' Chevrolet Tahoe. I love my truck but I have a major concern. My brakes are horrible, I thought it was the pads, so I had them replaced, then my rotors warped. . . So I had them replaced also, my brakes still felt soft so I kept driving it like that for about 5000 miles, next I'm driving on a flat road and come to a stop. I take off from this country road and see a deer, I hit my brakes and nothing!!!! the brake fade is so bad that I go back to the dealer again. He suggests a master cylinder (ouch) so I foolishly give him my money. Next day I'm going down a slight hill and again major brake fade. I am really upset and honestly frightened of your vehicle. In reading some of the news groups on the internet, I find that many folks have contacted gm and alerted you to this problem, please fix our brakes before one of us and/or an innocent bystander gets seriously injured or killed. Please help save lives, don't be like Ford and deny an obvious problem with your 92-99 Tahoe, suburban, and pickups.
Vibration experienced when applying brakes, caused by warped discs.
Front disk brake pads wear out in as little as 12,000 miles. My other vehicles have gotten 50-70,000 miles on a set of pads.
