Brake pedal went to the floor when attempting to slow down. No warning at all. Had just applied the brakes a few minutes earlier with no problem. I was able to just get the truck home the few miles from the highway. I checked the truck over thinking the brake master cylinder had failed but discovered that the brake line running along the frame to the rear of the truck had rusted, was ruptured, and leaking brake fluid. The truck is well maintained. I was lucky that there was no other vehicles near me when it happened.

On September 3rd, 2012 I was driving my 2003 chevy Tahoe and I had just pulled into a shopping center and as I was approaching a stop sign I applied the brakes. The brake pedal went straight to the floor. I went straight through the stop sign, but, luckily there were no other vehicles at the intersection. I was able to put the vehicle into 1st gear and guide it into a parking spot away from other vehicles. When I exited the vehicle and looked under the truck, I could see all of the brake line fluid pouring out of the brake lines. The Tahoe was towed to my mechanic. During the repair, the mechanic showed me all of the brake lines and they were all severely corroded. Every brake line had to be replaced. There is no other corrosion on the vehicle.

I had a brake failure on my 2002 Tahoe after driving at hwy speeds then coming off the exit to stop; the, service brakes light came on. I then attempted to brake and the pedal went all the way to the floor making it very difficult to brake. . , could have been catastrophic, and or deadly; I drove home 2 miles away, very slowly; I had very little brake control. (two infants in the car at the time) two out of four brake lines completely rusted with a hole; brake fluid leaked out quickly at time of incident . . Like hundreds, and thousands of other complaints of same exact problem. The brakes themselves are fine. , . To replace all four of my brake lines , it cost me $858($813 w/coupon). Recall id # 05v379000 - service brakes, hydraulic:antilock may address the problem if you get to it done before the lines completely fail. Applying rust inhibitor to your brake lines may also help. This could have been completely avoided since many have complained. The mechanic did not mention a recall when fixing the brake lines.
The first complaint number 10465492; addresses the fact that my brake lines rusted out and the fluid leaked out leaving me with little brake power. . To add insult to injury after they replaced my brake lines I was told that they could not bleed them so I needed a new manifold. It cost $350 which brings the total from 813 to $1350. I'm so frustrated. Mechanics said that the current recall would not have solved the problem but I should call gm and see if they would reimburse some of the cost since the problem is prevalent in many 2002 Tahoes.
My brake lines burst and began leaking brake fluid as I put my car in gear and began backing out of my driveway. I crawled under the car and the lines looked corroded. I live in delaware and purchased the car in northern new jersey.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, she applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The contact noticed that the brake lines were fractured and leaking brake fluid upon exiting the vehicle. The vehicle was safely driven home and parked. The vehicle was then taken to an independent repair shop, but repairs were not performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 126,000.

2002 Tahoe brakes, calipers all lines rusted out. Brakes to floor almost had accident. Fluid all leaked out of system when lines failed.
I was traveling on a parkway, and had to brake when traffic ahead started to slow down. The truck started to slow down, but while I was still traveling approx. 35-40mph (was orig. Driving 55. . . . Normal highway speed when I started to brake) when the brake pedal went to the floor, and I lost all braking. The only reason I didn't rear end the car in front of me was because there was no car in the lane to my right at the time. I rolled to the side of the road (luckily near an exit), and after turning on my hazzard lights, my friend who was in the passenger seat and witnessed the entire thing, and I got out of the truck. He opened the hood, and I got down on the ground and looked under the truck. It was obvious where the problem was, as there was brake fluid leaking down from above the area of the center (gear housing) of the rear axle. I slowly drove (walking speed) the truck from the shoulder to the exit and into a gas station a few blocks away. The owner was closing up, but was nice enough to take my truck and promised to work on it the next morning. I got a local hotel room for the night, as we were no where near home. The next morning, the mechanic said my truck was done. He replaced both brake lines in the rear of my truck and bled the system. He recommended I drive cautiously straight home (which I did uneventfully), but every brake line in the truck (and fuel line) would need to be replaced due to rust. My truck is in my driveway awaiting a robert Chevrolet (NY) appt. In 3 days. Btw, this bought new by me truck has low milage, and I have receipts piled 1/2" high for between $3,000-$4,000 (out of pocket) worth of brake related brake repairs on this truck, and it doesn't take much searching on the internet to realize this is not a isolated case. Please look in to this because someone's going to get killed. Hopefully not already.
Brake line ruptured and the fluid leaked out resulting in damage to vehicle.
Brakes failed to function properly. Brake pedal suddenly retracted to the floor and braking power was nearly lost. The brake fluid reservoir was almost empty. Upon investigation it was clear that fluid was leaking through a rusted steel line on the left rear of the vehicle. The line showed significant rust particularly within several inches where it connects above the rear differential. The right rear line was also very rusted in the same location but not yet leaking --- both lines where replace at owners expense. The steel line that leads up to the master cylinder is also very rusty.
Brake fluid discovered dripping from under front left frame onto driveway. Found brake line rusted and pitted and wet with fluid. Master cylinder was down approximately 10% below full mark. Many items in left side engine compartment rusted and corroded. Have experienced numerous component failures related to rust and corrosion under left side hood and chassis, . . . Rear brake rotors, brake control module, brake modulator valve, corroded and stuck spare tire release cable, left front wheel bearing assembly, wind shield wiper control module replaced ,speed sensor replaced, steering shaft replaced.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated was driving 25 mph when the brakes were applied, but the vehicle would not stop. The contact had to pump the brakes for the vehicle to come to a complete stop as the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. A local mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the front brakes were rusted and leaking brake fluid. The same brake failure was repaired for the rear brakes prior to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000 and the current mileage was 153,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact noticed brake fluid leaking from the vehicle abnormally. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the two bottom brake lines were worn and had split simultaneously. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
I had to have the wheel speed sensor cleaned 1and 1/2 years ago on my chevy Tahoe. It recently started acting up again. Then yesterday during a hard brake to avoid debris in the road the braks failed completely. I do not know yet what failed but there is very little brake fluid left in the reservoir. I see that there are more than 1 recall for Tahoes regarding brakes, but my vehicle is not included?.
The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 25 mph the brakes were applied and the pedal extended to the floor. The vehicle was taken to his residence and the contact could see brake fluid leaking from the brake lines. The failure was not diagnosed and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 53,000.

On November 23, 2010 we were traveling on I-95 just outside of washington DC when we were in some heavy traffic. We needed to stop quickly & the brake pedal on our 2001 chevy Tahoe lt went to the floor. We were able to stop but when we were able to get off to get gas & check on the brakes we noticed brake fluid leaking from the rear of the Tahoe. Was able to get to a brake shop when we found out the brake lines were corroded. The shop figured something must have hit the brake line while we were driving & since they were rusting it ruptured the line. We ended up having to spend the night in fredricksburg, va & paying $1,500 to just get the rear lines fixed so we could continue our trip to myrtle beach. We still need to get the front lines changed but we don't have the money to get them fixed at this time. So the Tahoe sits in our driveway until we can afford to get it fixed.
Driving home from church 20 mile trip, about midway pressed on brakes and pedal went all the way to the floor with total loss of braking. Managed to make it through two red lights with horn and hazard lights before coming to a stop with use of parking brake. Immediately I popped the hood to check for brake fluid and reservoir was still half full. Had the wife cycle the brakes so see if there were any problems with the master cylinder or booster. All looked good, walking around the car I found a large puddle of brake fluid inside drivers side rear wheel. Limped car home, and noticed the rear brake line which sits above the frame rail was completely rusted through. I can not replace this line myself so I will be returning vehicle for service to Chevrolet dealer.
