The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front and rear brake pads were replaced, including the rotors. The anti-lock braking system was also disabled. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that when trying to decelerate at low speeds, the brakes would exhibit a loud noise and there was an increase in stopping distance. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired by a dealer or mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
The contact received a recall concerning the brakes. She took the vehicle to a dealer for e recall repair, and the recall service was performed accordingly. After completion of the recall repairs she discovered that when applying brakes at speeds of 3 mph or less the abs will activate followed by a loud noise. The vehicle stops but at extended stopping distance. She contacted the dealership, but they could not offer any explanation. The regional office was contacted regarding this situation and she was waiting for a response. No further repairs or corrections have been made. . The contact stated the problem has been taken care off.
