I was driving when I noticed my vehicle lagging and possibly misfiring, and then the "service four-wheel-drive" warning appeared. I was just down the road from my house, so I pulled into the driveway and put the car in park, but it wouldn’t turn off. I realized the parking brake was engaged and wouldn’t release either. I was stuck in two-wheel drive and couldn’t switch to four-wheel drive, and the emergency brake wouldn't disengage when I pressed the button, so the vehicle still wouldn't shut off. I had to put it in reverse physically step on the gas, which is the only way the parking brake finally disengaged and allowed the vehicle to shut off.

While driving my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe at highway speeds (approximately 60 mph), the transmission suddenly malfunctioned due to what the dealership is telling was a valve body failure. Without warning, the vehicle lost proper propulsion and began to decelerate rapidly in active traffic. I did not receive adequate warning before the failure occurred. The sudden loss of power at highway speed created a very dangerous situation. Vehicles behind me had to brake abruptly, and I was nearly rear-ended. This presented a serious safety risk to me, my three children, and surrounding drivers. The issue was later diagnosed as a transmission valve body failure. A failure of this nature should not occur on a relatively new vehicle, and there is currently a recall on other 2021 Tahoe’s for this same issues. My car is sitting at the chevy dealership waiting for a full valve body replacement, which the dealership said they are having issues getting the part and will take over 2 weeks. The cost is around 5k to fix.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling) in November 2025 by the local dealer. The contact stated that the engine had passed the inspection, and a higher viscosity oil had been added along with the other steps stated in the recall. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The gear shift indicator indicated that the transmission had been shifted into neutral(n). The contact attempted to shift to drive(d) when the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was stopped but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer who had completed the recall repair. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine, starter, radiator, and fuse block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

Lifter failed on my chevy Tahoe 6. 2l engine at ~75k miles in September 2025. One lifter bank was replaced. No reason for lifter failure was given. Less than 5 months later the other lifter bank has failed and damaged the cam shaft. Again, no reason for failure was provided. Failed lifters can cause catastrophic engine failure, which is incredibly dangerous when the vehicle is in motion. No check engine lights or and warnings occur with the lifter failure, it is only identified by the driver through the tapping noise from the engine. Even a cursory review of forums and complaints reveals that lifter failure is widespread on this engine and that manufacturing defects have caused issues with this power train dating back to 2019, not just the recalled 2021-2024 models.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with failure. The contact was informed that the rear differential assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 22v036000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to slow down to approximately 35 mph, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact believed that the sound was caused by ice buildup on the mud flap, but shortly afterwards, the engine revved unexpectedly, with the check engine warning light illuminated, and the message “reduce acceleration - drive with care” was displayed. The vehicle started to coast unintendedly. The contact stated the vehicle returned to normal operation after a short while. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanics pushed the vehicle out of the parking spot before inspecting the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed with transmission valve body failure. The contact was informed that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,342.
Unknown, vehicle starts to jerk when shifting gears. Jerks when breaking and when accelerating. Check engine light on. I see there is a prior recall for the same issue on same year as mine.

Transmission has had a failure to shift problem on several occasions resulting in deceleration and a decreased ability to accelerate. This has occurred on most occasions at highway speeds while passing a vehicle causing a very unsafe condition. Dealer has evaluated and determined the transmission valve body is defective and needs replaced. Upon researching the problem, many similar gm vehicles are experiencing the same issue.
My transmission just randomly went out. I had my car evaluated in December of 2025 and nothing was reported on the transmission at all and as Jan 2026 my transmission went out.

Truck bucked twice in high-speed lane of the highway, gas pedal went soft and we luckily were able to coast the truck to the side of the highway without getting hit. The truck put itself in neutral when we lost the engine and the truck would not restart. It had to be towed, while me and my two kids stood on the side of a dangerous highway for 45 minutes in the snow. The truck has 52,000 miles, engine was already replaced at 10,000 miles. It just passed the recall inspection and had the upgraded oil that was recommended.
* sudden catastrophic engine failure. * the car lost power in the middle of a high traffic, very dark country road, forcing her to stay in the middle of the (undivided) road in the dark hoping cars didn't slam into her. A collin county sheriff was dispatched to keep her safe until the tow truck arrived almost two hours later. " * the vehicle was towed to a dealer where they confirmed that the torque converter, valves, lifters had failed. Dealer didn't disclose that there was any issues for these engines, which there is. It's a 6. 2l v8 Tahoe high country. * it has only been inspected by the dealer, not the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, etc. . . * the vehicle indicated a traction control problem, then the engine light came on, and then the engine failed followed by loss of power. All happened in rapid succession with no opportunity for the driver to get to a safe location. * there was no warning or other symptoms preceding this. The vehicle has always been faithfully serviced at chevy dealerships consistent with the manufacturers recommendations.
2021 Tahoe with 3. 0l diesel engine and 139k miles recently began overheating when on interstate but temp would jump up quickly then quickly back down. Reduced acceleration mode is triggered and ac is turned off automatically. Diagnostic report shows coolant control valve error code and it was explained to me that valve is sticking then as engine pressure rises, it knocks it loose again explaining the quickly jumps and dips in temp. Fan runs constantly from moment it is started too. When looking for the part online to get an idea of repair cost, there was a bulletin about this being a known issue in the 2021 Tahoes with the diesel engines and bulletin states gm extended special coverage for 15yrs/150k miles. When I called dealer to schedule service, I was told this bulletin doesnt come up under my VIN number despite it having the same issues, error codes, year, make, model, and engine.
Ticking sound started from the motor and the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealership and was informed the vehicle had bad lifters with a bent push rod needing a full motor replacement. The vehicle has 92k miles and was purchased a year and a half ago from that same dealership. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting costly repairs.
Vehicle continues to experience flashing air bag light and service self-restraint system warning. Brought in twice in 2025 for self-restraint system but dealer refuses to cover under warranty. On December 18, 2025, experienced complete power and electrical failure while in transit on a turning lane. The vehicle was unable to start, or open any windows, and the transmission would not shift back into park or neutral while obstructing traffic near an active railroad. Vehicle battery was replaced and was able to safely put vehicle into gear. Vehicle battery replacement allowed for normal driving; however, from that date on the transmission started shifting harder and jerkier. On December 31, 2025, vehicle was being driven on the freeway to then experience difficult shifting and reduced power. Subsequently, the drive indicator began flashing red and a service transmission indication appeared. There has been at least three instances, since vehicle purchased, where sudden loss of power and control of the vehicle in motion has occured.

My Tahoe was making a loud noise, I took it to the dealer to look at it and they said I need to replace the rear driveshaft to the tune of $4000. I don't have $4000 to spend on this. This Tahoe is only 4 years old and was supposed to drive us to minnesota next week for christmas and now that is not possible. This is a known issue and a recall, but my VIN not included in that recall. How can this happen - you know it is a known issue in these cars! power train recall date 2022-01-27 recall no. 22v036000 general motors, llc (gm) is recalling certain 2021 GMC yukon, yukon xl, Cadillac escalade, escalade esv, Chevrolet suburban, and Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles. Transmission failed at 94,000 miles misfire 80,000miles afm/dod issues $10,000 in repair bills still not fixed.
At first it started with my brakes. I was at dq and all of a sudden the brake peddle was hard and would barely go down. I then put my car in park. Now I have all new brakes, rotors, etc. Then now the car after 139,000 miles and only owning it for 3 years has this hesitation to go. It stumbles and once would go at all. I had to park right where I was, and restart the car. I have 5 kids, one at which is always with me whom is only 3 years old. This vehicle is not safe. Why it it that so many of us are having the same issue, but no recall has been done? I go this weekend to take the car in. Praying for some sort of miracle. And no other warning signs. Just starting acting crazy. Lights just came on this week.

While driving and turning left and right, and while cold and turning it does a grinding/groan noice, and recently while driving it did that, and it started losing speed and the grinding worsening and I was losing control of the vehicle. Putting the vehicle in auto makes the groan/grind worse.
Tahoe transmission failed with 103,000 miles… took to Chevrolet they confirmed, took to a transmission specialist they confirmed failure but they said the computer was throwing weird codes and they believe this has a factor in transmission issue. On the way home the brake system alert went off and the car would not go above 35 miles an hour … I get this is a safety feature but it was dangerous in the location this occurred ans this car was not that old and does not have high miles to justify this type of issues.
I am writing to formally document serious engine defects I have experienced with my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with the 5. 3l l84 v8 engine. 1. Crankshaft failure: my Tahoe suffered a catastrophic crankshaft failure that required major repair/replacement. I am aware that gm has recalled certain vehicles equipped with the 6. 2l l87 engine for crankshaft and rod-bearing defects. Based on my experience, the same or a very similar defect has also occurred in my 5. 3l engine, which is currently not included in that recall. 2. Valve lifter failure: in addition, my vehicle has suffered from valve lifter collapse—a well-documented problem in 2021–2022 gm trucks and suvs with both the 5. 3l and 6. 2l engines. This caused severe misfiring, drivability issues, and expensive repair needs. Why this is a concern: •both failures occurred well before what would be expected of a modern engine. •the crankshaft failure raises a safety risk: sudden loss of propulsion while driving could lead to accidents. •the lifter issue is widely reported by other owners and has been the subject of gm service bulletins. •taken together, these problems suggest systemic defects in the 2021 Tahoe’s 5. 3l engine that have not been adequately addressed by gm. Requested action: •I ask gm to extend recall and warranty coverage to include the 5. 3l l84 engine in addition to the 6. 2l l87. •I ask NHTSA to consider investigating whether the scope of the current 6. 2l recall should be broadened to include 5. 3l engines, given failures like mine. •at minimum, I request assistance in covering repair/replacement costs for both the crankshaft and lifter defects, which are clearly not due to normal wear and tear. Vehicle details: •year/make/model: 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe •engine: 5. 3l v8 l84.
I was starting to accelerate to a higher level of speed onto the highway; 55 mph going up a hill. I was unable to accelerate much as I pushed on the gas, however the rpm's would get higher. While I was at 45 mpg the rpm's were at 3. 5. All of sudden my service engine light came on. I knew something was wrong. Turned around took my car back home very slowly, had my husband come look at my car, who has mechanical experience. Transmission fluid is dark and gritty; when its suppose to be a red in color and smooth. I am now needing to replace a transmission in a vehicle that is 5 years old. How is this possible? I have owned the car for 2 years. Why has these not been recalled yet? why has these not been looked into further? we are paying a lot of money for these vehicles to turn around and put a new transmission, which isn't cheap into a vehicle that is 5 years old. Any assistance to look into these complaints would be very helpful. I am just glad no one was hurt and I was able to get my vehicle home safely. I keep up with all of the routine maintenance of this vehicle on a regular basis.

At 155,000 miles transmission shudders and slips gears. Torque, converter went out and started slipping more and whining and making a grinding sound. Transmission had to be completely rebuilt, with all six clutches, and a brand new torque converter had to be installed.
Issue related to the rear-differential fluid, TSB 21-na-028. Its a known issue where the rear differential make moan/chatter noises on turning (including at low speeds). Dealers are instructed to service/replace the rear differential fluid and perform procedures to address clutch pack chatter. It is such an issue, the fluid to remedy this is on back order!.
Based on dealer inspection, oil was found sitting on top of the #2 piston, and you’ve indicated the failure is originating from the bottom end of the engine—likely involving piston, ring, or cylinder wall damage. Combined with the stored p050d, p0300, and p0302 codes, this represents a clear internal mechanical failure. Vehicle is currently at the dealership. Mechanical failure while driving the vehicle. Sensor light for service esc and service traction control both showed as the failure was occurring.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle intermittently lost motive power. The messages "service power train", "roll down driver side/ passenger side windows", along with several other unknown messages, were displayed on the instrument panel. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions, which required the codriver to wait several minutes for the vehicle to return to normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
The rear differential makes a rubbing or humming noise when turning left/right at slow speed especially when it’s cold.
My 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe recently displayed a warning message that said “service transmission – may not be able to shift soon. ” the message appeared at approximately 132,754 miles. Since then, I’ve noticed delayed and rough shifting between gears. The vehicle still drives and shifts into gear, but the message and behavior are concerning. I have an appointment scheduled for a diagnostic inspection on Tuesday, which was the earliest available. I have not yet received a confirmed diagnosis, but I’ve seen that many other 2021 Tahoe's and similar gm vehicles have experienced the same transmission problem and were included in recalls. My vehicle’s symptoms match those reports, though my VIN was not included. This situation makes me nervous because I drive with my four children daily. Even though the vehicle hasn’t completely lost the ability to shift, a sudden failure while driving could put my family and others on the road at risk. The warning itself suggests a potential failure is coming soon. The vehicle has been properly maintained and has not had prior transmission work. I’m reporting this because it appears to be part of a larger pattern that should be investigated to determine if more vehicles need to be included in gm’s existing transmission recall.
2nd powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6. 2l engine. The first being the camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 mph with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no gm rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.
