Ticking sound started from the motor and the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealership and was informed the vehicle had bad lifters with a bent push rod needing a full motor replacement. The vehicle has 92k miles and was purchased a year and a half ago from that same dealership. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting costly repairs.

Vehicle continues to experience flashing air bag light and service self-restraint system warning. Brought in twice in 2025 for self-restraint system but dealer refuses to cover under warranty. On December 18, 2025, experienced complete power and electrical failure while in transit on a turning lane. The vehicle was unable to start, or open any windows, and the transmission would not shift back into park or neutral while obstructing traffic near an active railroad. Vehicle battery was replaced and was able to safely put vehicle into gear. Vehicle battery replacement allowed for normal driving; however, from that date on the transmission started shifting harder and jerkier. On December 31, 2025, vehicle was being driven on the freeway to then experience difficult shifting and reduced power. Subsequently, the drive indicator began flashing red and a service transmission indication appeared. There has been at least three instances, since vehicle purchased, where sudden loss of power and control of the vehicle in motion has occured.

My Tahoe was making a loud noise, I took it to the dealer to look at it and they said I need to replace the rear driveshaft to the tune of $4000. I don't have $4000 to spend on this. This Tahoe is only 4 years old and was supposed to drive us to minnesota next week for christmas and now that is not possible. This is a known issue and a recall, but my VIN not included in that recall. How can this happen - you know it is a known issue in these cars! power train recall date 2022-01-27 recall no. 22v036000 general motors, llc (gm) is recalling certain 2021 GMC yukon, yukon xl, Cadillac escalade, escalade esv, Chevrolet suburban, and Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles. At first it started with my brakes. I was at dq and all of a sudden the brake peddle was hard and would barely go down. I then put my car in park. Now I have all new brakes, rotors, etc. Then now the car after 139,000 miles and only owning it for 3 years has this hesitation to go. It stumbles and once would go at all. I had to park right where I was, and restart the car. I have 5 kids, one at which is always with me whom is only 3 years old. This vehicle is not safe. Why it it that so many of us are having the same issue, but no recall has been done? I go this weekend to take the car in. Praying for some sort of miracle. And no other warning signs. Just starting acting crazy. Lights just came on this week.

While driving and turning left and right, and while cold and turning it does a grinding/groan noice, and recently while driving it did that, and it started losing speed and the grinding worsening and I was losing control of the vehicle. Putting the vehicle in auto makes the groan/grind worse.
Tahoe transmission failed with 103,000 miles… took to Chevrolet they confirmed, took to a transmission specialist they confirmed failure but they said the computer was throwing weird codes and they believe this has a factor in transmission issue. On the way home the brake system alert went off and the car would not go above 35 miles an hour … I get this is a safety feature but it was dangerous in the location this occurred ans this car was not that old and does not have high miles to justify this type of issues.

I am writing to formally document serious engine defects I have experienced with my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with the 5. 3l l84 v8 engine. 1. Crankshaft failure: my Tahoe suffered a catastrophic crankshaft failure that required major repair/replacement. I am aware that gm has recalled certain vehicles equipped with the 6. 2l l87 engine for crankshaft and rod-bearing defects. Based on my experience, the same or a very similar defect has also occurred in my 5. 3l engine, which is currently not included in that recall. 2. Valve lifter failure: in addition, my vehicle has suffered from valve lifter collapse—a well-documented problem in 2021–2022 gm trucks and suvs with both the 5. 3l and 6. 2l engines. This caused severe misfiring, drivability issues, and expensive repair needs. Why this is a concern: •both failures occurred well before what would be expected of a modern engine. •the crankshaft failure raises a safety risk: sudden loss of propulsion while driving could lead to accidents. •the lifter issue is widely reported by other owners and has been the subject of gm service bulletins. •taken together, these problems suggest systemic defects in the 2021 Tahoe’s 5. 3l engine that have not been adequately addressed by gm. Requested action: •I ask gm to extend recall and warranty coverage to include the 5. 3l l84 engine in addition to the 6. 2l l87. •I ask NHTSA to consider investigating whether the scope of the current 6. 2l recall should be broadened to include 5. 3l engines, given failures like mine. •at minimum, I request assistance in covering repair/replacement costs for both the crankshaft and lifter defects, which are clearly not due to normal wear and tear. Vehicle details: •year/make/model: 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe •engine: 5. 3l v8 l84.
I was starting to accelerate to a higher level of speed onto the highway; 55 mph going up a hill. I was unable to accelerate much as I pushed on the gas, however the rpm's would get higher. While I was at 45 mpg the rpm's were at 3. 5. All of sudden my service engine light came on. I knew something was wrong. Turned around took my car back home very slowly, had my husband come look at my car, who has mechanical experience. Transmission fluid is dark and gritty; when its suppose to be a red in color and smooth. I am now needing to replace a transmission in a vehicle that is 5 years old. How is this possible? I have owned the car for 2 years. Why has these not been recalled yet? why has these not been looked into further? we are paying a lot of money for these vehicles to turn around and put a new transmission, which isn't cheap into a vehicle that is 5 years old. Any assistance to look into these complaints would be very helpful. I am just glad no one was hurt and I was able to get my vehicle home safely. I keep up with all of the routine maintenance of this vehicle on a regular basis.

At 155,000 miles transmission shudders and slips gears. Torque, converter went out and started slipping more and whining and making a grinding sound. Transmission had to be completely rebuilt, with all six clutches, and a brand new torque converter had to be installed.
Issue related to the rear-differential fluid, TSB 21-na-028. Its a known issue where the rear differential make moan/chatter noises on turning (including at low speeds). Dealers are instructed to service/replace the rear differential fluid and perform procedures to address clutch pack chatter. It is such an issue, the fluid to remedy this is on back order!.
Based on dealer inspection, oil was found sitting on top of the #2 piston, and you’ve indicated the failure is originating from the bottom end of the engine—likely involving piston, ring, or cylinder wall damage. Combined with the stored p050d, p0300, and p0302 codes, this represents a clear internal mechanical failure. Vehicle is currently at the dealership. Mechanical failure while driving the vehicle. Sensor light for service esc and service traction control both showed as the failure was occurring.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle intermittently lost motive power. The messages "service power train", "roll down driver side/ passenger side windows", along with several other unknown messages, were displayed on the instrument panel. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions, which required the codriver to wait several minutes for the vehicle to return to normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

My 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe recently displayed a warning message that said “service transmission – may not be able to shift soon. ” the message appeared at approximately 132,754 miles. Since then, I’ve noticed delayed and rough shifting between gears. The vehicle still drives and shifts into gear, but the message and behavior are concerning. I have an appointment scheduled for a diagnostic inspection on Tuesday, which was the earliest available. I have not yet received a confirmed diagnosis, but I’ve seen that many other 2021 Tahoe's and similar gm vehicles have experienced the same transmission problem and were included in recalls. My vehicle’s symptoms match those reports, though my VIN was not included. This situation makes me nervous because I drive with my four children daily. Even though the vehicle hasn’t completely lost the ability to shift, a sudden failure while driving could put my family and others on the road at risk. The warning itself suggests a potential failure is coming soon. The vehicle has been properly maintained and has not had prior transmission work. I’m reporting this because it appears to be part of a larger pattern that should be investigated to determine if more vehicles need to be included in gm’s existing transmission recall.
2nd powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6. 2l engine. The first being the camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 mph with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no gm rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.

I was driving on an interstate when the vehicle check engine light came on and it went into limp mode causing the vehicle to go into low speed in the middle of traffic. Check engine light code p0747.
On the morning of 1 oct, I had left the house here in cedartown GA to head to a meeting in atlanta with a customer. I had started the truck 15 minutes before departing just as we have always done to our vehicles over the years to allow them to warm up properly. I departed doyle rd onto hwy 27 south heading towards interstate 20. About 15 miles from the house I was at a steady cruise speed of 45 mph, no traffic, acceleration or deceleration and the stability control system light came on, one second later the engine light came on and the engine all of a sudden started making a loud grinding and clunking noise. I was on the inside lane so let the car pass next to me and started to pull over onto the shoulder of the road. I immediately shut off the truck, popped the hood and got out to inspect what might have happened. There was no smoke, I checked all the fluids and all were at the normal ranges. The engine oil was at its full mark as well. The oil was just changed a month early and still of the same color as it was new. After checking, I got back on the truck, attempted to start and it ran for a few seconds then I immediately shut it off after hearing again the loud noise. A polk county police officer stopped to check on me and offer assistance as well as some tow companies to call. Eventually after about at hour a tow truck showed, we tried to momentarily start the vehicle so it could be put in neutral but the engine had locked up. I’m glad I got off the road when I did, otherwise I feel I could have been driving and experienced that sudden lock up and loss of control which could have been a serious accident with log trucks up and down that highway all day long. This vehicle is my wife’s primary vehicle and always has been maintained to a t just like all of our gm vehicles have. My daughter just graduated and drives our passed down 2005 Tahoe with over 300k miles that we bought in 2006. This has never happened to us and I feel it is a serious safety issue on the 6. 2.
The automatic transmission on my 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe has failed prematurely at approximately 88,000 miles. The dealership confirmed internal transmission damage, specifically that solenoid #3 in the valve body is sticking and not engaging, which requires a complete transmission replacement. Their written inspection states: “possible internal damage in transmission. Solenoid 3 in valve body is not engaging. ” the component is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this malfunction created several dangerous situations. The vehicle hesitated, struggled to shift into gear, and at times moved forward while in reverse. These symptoms could cause loss of control, delayed acceleration when entering traffic, or unexpected movement putting myself and others at risk. Diagnosis confirmation: yes. The problem has been fully inspected, reproduced, and confirmed by an authorized Chevrolet dealership service center. They provided a written estimate of $8,669. 59 for a complete transmission replacement. Inspection by others: the transmission has been inspected by the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. No independent mechanic, police, or insurance representative has inspected it yet, but the dealership’s findings are available. Warning lamps or symptoms: prior to the failure, I experienced hesitation, difficulty engaging gears, harsh shifting, and the vehicle lunging forward while in reverse. Shortly after these symptoms appeared, both the check engine light and tire pressure light came on. Additional context: gm has released multiple technical service bulletins (tsbs), including 19-na-153 and 21-na-199, addressing known issues with their 8-speed transmissions such as harsh shifting, slipping, and valve body/solenoid problems. This suggests a broader pattern of defects. Gm and the dealership offered only 10% goodwill assistance, leaving almost the entire repair cost to the consumer, despite this being an internal mechanical defect with normal personal use.
I have a 2021 Tahoe that while circling a parking lot at my son's football practice. The Tahoe's emergency came on and the Tahoe abruptly stopped. A checked engine light came on. The Tahoe wouldn't release the emergency brakes. I was finally able to get it released. I took the vehicle to a transmission shop because I plugged obd scan tool on it. It had two transmission codes. One generic and one for the vavle body. The transmission shop said they have had lots of Tahoes with the vavle body's going out. They told me about n242454441. I called Chevrolet and they advised me that wasn't for my Tahoe. I asked why and they said they don't know. If this is effecting the desiel only models then why is mine doing the same thing. Parts cant be ordered either. Please look into this matter.

2021 Tahoe z71 with 70000 miles making a roaring and whining noise on reverse and turning, especially when cold. Took to shop and they changed the rear differential fluid. Now its worse. Needs a whole new rear end. This veicle is 4 years old and does not tow or use four wheel drive. The shop said there has been so many complaints and services on the same issue. Why is there not a recall on this yet? we spend $70,000 and up and expect a more quality vehicle without having to spend $4000 dollars on repairs.

Rapid deceleration at 55mph on highway, followed by console message "reduced acceleration" with check engine light. Fortunately rolled into dealer within a mile. After analysis, they stated the transmission valve body and electronic control component needs replacement over $3,000. After tax. No warning signs prior. Ntsb recall n24254441 covers only diesel engines not gas with same problem in 10 speed transmission.
This is an amendment to campaign 11684444 as there is some inaccurate info as it pertains to the diagnostic- 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, driving 25 mph, in the neighborhood, my Tahoe kicked into neutral and abruptly stopped in the middle of the street. I immediately tried to restart it, however it would not start. After about 15 minutes, we tried again and it started enough to make it back to my in laws house, where it remains parked today. We did a diagnostic test and received the code for fuel pump control module failure. Contacted the Chevrolet dealership I bought my vehicle from and they indicated this is a common issue and the part is on back order. This is a very dangerous risk to safety and should be covered under a recall. I've seen where GMC issued a recall for the exact same issue, but only for Tahoes with 6. 2l v8 engine; mine is 5. 3l. I am confused why that matters as it poses the same safety risk across the board. Very dangerous. Please consider this as a recall.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. While driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled consistently while shifting gears. There were no warning lights illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to three independent mechanic,s who indicated that the failure was related to the engine. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Transmission valve body failure after factory warranty expired.
While driving on the expressway I heard a rattling noise coming from my undercarriage, by the time I got off my exit the sound got louder, I attempted to make it home and when I pulled in my driveway, and popped the hood, fluid starting pouring out the bottom as well as splashed on other components. Upon further inspection it was determined that the fluid was coolant. There was no dashboards lights or warning signs indicating that something was wrong or that my car was at risk of overheating. I had the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop and the following was diagnosed and repaired: •water pump •cooling system •engine water pump •engine coolant thermostat housing assembly. •serpentine belt.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the transmission shifted hard occasionally, and the vehicle jerked abnormally. Additionally, on one occasion while shifted in reverse(r) the vehicle drove forward. The gear shifter was shifted to park(p) and then reverse, and the vehicle reversed as intended. The contact inspected the transmission fluid, and the transmission fluid level was low. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.
