At less than 50,000 miles, my alternator went out and had to be replaced, causing the battery to need to be replaced also. Now, at only 51,000 miles, my transmission is having problems and causing the vehicle to jerk when shifting. This vehicle has had regular maintenance performed by a combination of dealers and certified service centers since it was purchased brand new. I have never had this much trouble with a vehicle and am very concerned about it's overall safety and integrity, given the severity of the problems for something that is not old and does not have high mileage.

The component at issue is the engine, which suffered a sudden and catastrophic failure due to unknown causes. At no time prior to this incident were there any warnings, symptoms, or indications of an underlying mechanical defect that would have allowed for preventative action. While operating the vehicle on the highway with my family present, multiple warning indicators activated simultaneously, including a blinking check engine light, traction control light, esc warning, and a forward collision warning. Immediately thereafter, the vehicle experienced a rapid and significant loss of power accompanied by a loud and persistent engine knocking noise, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate and placing the occupants at risk. It is important to emphasize that traction control and esc systems are not causally related to an engine misfire condition, further supporting that this event was abrupt and not part of a progressive or diagnosable issue. A diagnostic scan performed at that time identified a misfire in cylinder 1. Upon delivery of the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, it was determined that the engine had suffered complete internal failure and was deemed “blown. ” this finding confirms the occurrence of a catastrophic mechanical breakdown. Based on the sudden onset, absence of prior warning, and severity of the failure, there is no reasonable basis to attribute this condition to normal wear and tear, operator misuse, or neglect. Rather, the facts support the conclusion that this was the result of a latent defect or internal mechanical failure beyond the operator’s control. Accordingly, this matter should be addressed under applicable warranty coverage or consumer protection standards.
My Tahoe has 108,000 miles on it. It broke down in the middle of the road and refused to go into gear with zero symptoms prior to this. We had it towed to the dealership and were told it is the transmission valve body. This is a known issue but our VIN isn't covered for some reason so we have to pay out of pocket for this costly repair that is a known problem!.
I had the car in for a message (service transmission now will not be able to shift soon). They told me there was nothing wrong with my transmission it was a parking brake sensor issue. They ordered me a new sensor and never called to tell me it was in. I followed up and they said they had the part and I could come in whenever. They said it was not a safety issue and would be a quick fix. I had an appt today and to my surprise when I went to drive to the appt my car will not let me shift out of park with a new message (service transmission, unable to shift). I am now waiting for the car to be towed. This car has had nothing but issues including the back-up camera not working properly for 2 years. These are all serious safety concerns that chevy/gm has not properly handled.

Rear end makes noise when turning, been flushed based on current bulletin. Still makes noise but not as bad. Now transmission is jerking at multiple gears.
Driving at 75mph upgrade westbound out of denver, CO. Engine failed, shut down at speed, had to emergency move to right shoulder through 3 lanes of traffic. The last 10 mph it locked wheels to a screeching halt. Towed to foundation Chevrolet. Confirmed engine failed, needs replacement. Every service done on regular basis by same dealer. Had "recall" band aid performed a couple months ago, where they changed oil vicosity and did inspection.
The dealership where I get my 2020 chevy Tahoe service, stated that there is a recall for the water pump for the 2020 chevy Tahoe, due to a manufactory defect, causing the water pump to leak. On xxx, mileage 62,777, I had to replace my water pump for that same reason, but my vehicle was not part of the recall; therefore, paying for a placement water pump myself. The dealership is musson patout automotive group/GMC, 214 west hwy 90 frontage road, new iberia, la 70560, [xxx]. I am requesting that my vehicle be added to the recall list, due to this oversite. Had issues transitioning to reverse, drove vehicle to the dealership. While driving on a busy road vehicle went into limp mode and had to pull over. Vehicle needed to be towed to the dealership. Dealership was able to verify vehicle was unable to reverse. They also found p0700 and p0776 error codes. They also used service bulletin 22-na-258. We had not noticed excessively harsh shifting prior to this event. Had to replace components in the valve body.
Either the transmission or torque converter went out, one or both completely failed.

While driving down i35 south of wellington KS in our new 2026 chevy Tahoe we experienced a vehicle shift to neutral and no transmission correction available. Coasted to ditch saw “service transmission” notice and so turned off and on engine . Went to derby KS and davis moore chevy in wichita where staff removed the warning service notice on driver info and we continued to molle chevy in blue springs mo. Where they did diagnostic and only showed ambient air fault!! this is scary! we had no transmission and had to get off road safely! please let public and our dealers know and recall all vehicles with this problem. We are afraid to drive this new 3,000 mile chevy Tahoe.
I was driving yesterday and noticed my transmission started to shift hard and unnecessarily. Then I received a warning that propulsion was affected and to drive with care. The check engine light came on. I was able to make it home, but the vehicle wouldn't go into reverse. I had it towed to a dealership today and they identified the issue as being related to the valve body. Apparently a recall was just issued for this on the 2022 chevy Tahoes. I'm not sure why this isn't being extended to the 2021 model.
Transmission issue -while driving 55 mph the rpm’s revved up and the vehicle felt as it it was in 2nd or 3rd gear. Warning lights came on stating “rapid deceleration use caution” and the engine light came on. The vehicle was able to go into park but upon shifting back into drive, it did not change gears. Sounds as if it is being driven in 2nd or 3rd gear with rpm’s elevated.
Driving down the highway and I lost all the gears it went from driving speed then wouldn’t go over 30 mph. When I got pulled into a business on the side of the road then tried to restart it it then wouldn’t go into reverse. It was dangerous because there was cars behind me going the speed limit then my car just lost speed. No warnings it’s not throwing any codes. Looking on the internet it seems it’s the transmission or valve body.
At 64000 miles my 2019 chevy Tahoe has to be replaced due to lifters failing. Gm/chevy wants to charge me $17000 to install a new 6. 2l - v8 engine. (same engine that had the lifter problem). That engine has been recalled on earlier and later models. What do I do to fight the cost of new motor ?.
I was driving when I noticed my vehicle lagging and possibly misfiring, and then the "service four-wheel-drive" warning appeared. I was just down the road from my house, so I pulled into the driveway and put the car in park, but it wouldn’t turn off. I realized the parking brake was engaged and wouldn’t release either. I was stuck in two-wheel drive and couldn’t switch to four-wheel drive, and the emergency brake wouldn't disengage when I pressed the button, so the vehicle still wouldn't shut off. I had to put it in reverse physically step on the gas, which is the only way the parking brake finally disengaged and allowed the vehicle to shut off.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle lost motive power, and the transmission slammed into gear, and it felt like the vehicle was rear-ended. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission valve body failure. The contact was informed that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The contact was later informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
While driving my 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe at highway speeds (approximately 60 mph), the transmission suddenly malfunctioned due to what the dealership is telling was a valve body failure. Without warning, the vehicle lost proper propulsion and began to decelerate rapidly in active traffic. I did not receive adequate warning before the failure occurred. The sudden loss of power at highway speed created a very dangerous situation. Vehicles behind me had to brake abruptly, and I was nearly rear-ended. This presented a serious safety risk to me, my three children, and surrounding drivers. The issue was later diagnosed as a transmission valve body failure. A failure of this nature should not occur on a relatively new vehicle, and there is currently a recall on other 2021 Tahoe’s for this same issues. My car is sitting at the chevy dealership waiting for a full valve body replacement, which the dealership said they are having issues getting the part and will take over 2 weeks. The cost is around 5k to fix.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling) in November 2025 by the local dealer. The contact stated that the engine had passed the inspection, and a higher viscosity oil had been added along with the other steps stated in the recall. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The gear shift indicator indicated that the transmission had been shifted into neutral(n). The contact attempted to shift to drive(d) when the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was stopped but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer who had completed the recall repair. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine, starter, radiator, and fuse block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
Lifter failed on my chevy Tahoe 6. 2l engine at ~75k miles in September 2025. One lifter bank was replaced. No reason for lifter failure was given. Less than 5 months later the other lifter bank has failed and damaged the cam shaft. Again, no reason for failure was provided. Failed lifters can cause catastrophic engine failure, which is incredibly dangerous when the vehicle is in motion. No check engine lights or and warnings occur with the lifter failure, it is only identified by the driver through the tapping noise from the engine. Even a cursory review of forums and complaints reveals that lifter failure is widespread on this engine and that manufacturing defects have caused issues with this power train dating back to 2019, not just the recalled 2021-2024 models.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with failure. The contact was informed that the rear differential assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 22v036000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to slow down to approximately 35 mph, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact believed that the sound was caused by ice buildup on the mud flap, but shortly afterwards, the engine revved unexpectedly, with the check engine warning light illuminated, and the message “reduce acceleration - drive with care” was displayed. The vehicle started to coast unintendedly. The contact stated the vehicle returned to normal operation after a short while. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanics pushed the vehicle out of the parking spot before inspecting the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed with transmission valve body failure. The contact was informed that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,342.
Unknown, vehicle starts to jerk when shifting gears. Jerks when breaking and when accelerating. Check engine light on. I see there is a prior recall for the same issue on same year as mine.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled while attempting to shift gears. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that metal shavings were found in the transmission, causing the transmission to fail. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.
Transmission has had a failure to shift problem on several occasions resulting in deceleration and a decreased ability to accelerate. This has occurred on most occasions at highway speeds while passing a vehicle causing a very unsafe condition. Dealer has evaluated and determined the transmission valve body is defective and needs replaced. Upon researching the problem, many similar gm vehicles are experiencing the same issue.
My transmission just randomly went out. I had my car evaluated in December of 2025 and nothing was reported on the transmission at all and as Jan 2026 my transmission went out.
Truck bucked twice in high-speed lane of the highway, gas pedal went soft and we luckily were able to coast the truck to the side of the highway without getting hit. The truck put itself in neutral when we lost the engine and the truck would not restart. It had to be towed, while me and my two kids stood on the side of a dangerous highway for 45 minutes in the snow. The truck has 52,000 miles, engine was already replaced at 10,000 miles. It just passed the recall inspection and had the upgraded oil that was recommended.
* sudden catastrophic engine failure. * the car lost power in the middle of a high traffic, very dark country road, forcing her to stay in the middle of the (undivided) road in the dark hoping cars didn't slam into her. A collin county sheriff was dispatched to keep her safe until the tow truck arrived almost two hours later. " * the vehicle was towed to a dealer where they confirmed that the torque converter, valves, lifters had failed. Dealer didn't disclose that there was any issues for these engines, which there is. It's a 6. 2l v8 Tahoe high country. * it has only been inspected by the dealer, not the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, etc. . . * the vehicle indicated a traction control problem, then the engine light came on, and then the engine failed followed by loss of power. All happened in rapid succession with no opportunity for the driver to get to a safe location. * there was no warning or other symptoms preceding this. The vehicle has always been faithfully serviced at chevy dealerships consistent with the manufacturers recommendations.
Transmission valve , vehicle shutter, and eventually complete loss of power and failure. Transmission had to be replaced as vehicle was out of warranty.
2021 Tahoe with 3. 0l diesel engine and 139k miles recently began overheating when on interstate but temp would jump up quickly then quickly back down. Reduced acceleration mode is triggered and ac is turned off automatically. Diagnostic report shows coolant control valve error code and it was explained to me that valve is sticking then as engine pressure rises, it knocks it loose again explaining the quickly jumps and dips in temp. Fan runs constantly from moment it is started too. When looking for the part online to get an idea of repair cost, there was a bulletin about this being a known issue in the 2021 Tahoes with the diesel engines and bulletin states gm extended special coverage for 15yrs/150k miles. When I called dealer to schedule service, I was told this bulletin doesnt come up under my VIN number despite it having the same issues, error codes, year, make, model, and engine.
Ticking sound started from the motor and the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealership and was informed the vehicle had bad lifters with a bent push rod needing a full motor replacement. The vehicle has 92k miles and was purchased a year and a half ago from that same dealership. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting costly repairs.
