While driving with my children, the cars warning lights lit up and alarms started beeping. The service engine light came on as well as the fcw off message, I smelled smoke and heard a whiring sound. After pulling in my driveway, I popped open the hood and found nothing out of the ordinary. 20 minutes later I started up the car and started driving, again without any issue. When coming back home (4 mile round trip), I heard a whiring sound again, smelled smoke and lights and alarms again. Fortunately, I was pulling into the driveway. At this point, I could see smoke coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and saw smoke billowing from the area of the alternator. After the smoke stopped I attempted to start the car to move it and roll up windows but could not, the car had no power. After researching the issue, I was glad to see that there was a recall on the alternator for my car. However, I was disappointed to learn that my VIN was not included in the recall. After further research, I determined that the recall was only for the 160 amp alternator, my car has the 180 amp. This alternator failed in the exact same way as the 160 amp alternators. I was very lucky that this happened while turning into my driveway and not a busy intersection. Since this was not part of the recall, I am now out $1000. I have read similar stories of the exact same issue with the 180 amp alternators. This is a safety issue, please help.
Experienced total electrical failure after replacing alternator and battery- electrical failure affects everything- unsafe to drive.
On March 12, 2017 I was driving Chrysler 2012 300 vehicle on a busy highway, the vehicle then went into battery power save mode, without warning the vehicle stalled and the breaks locked on me, the car did not let me stop and I was on a busy street route 30 in merrillville, in with my 2 year old daughter in the back seat, the vehicle rolled at approximately 20 mph for 15 feet and made an abrupt stop, after wards I was unable to turn on vehicle and was left stranded on busy street, luckily their were no cars in front of me at the time or it could of been worse, after doing research I called Chrysler and asked if this could of been due to faulty alternator and mentioned recall p61 and was told the recall was for a 160 amp and mine was 180 amp, the cause of this situation was clearly due to a recall on a recall of a different Chrysler model and should be looked into immediately, I have always been a customer of Chrysler and my reasoning behind buying Chrysler is because of their wonderful safety features, and feeling secure while driving my 2 young children,it is unfair and after this I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle . Their needs to be immediate action taken to avoid injury or possible death.
When driving or not driving sun roof will not go close I have to push button a few times or wait a few minutes, check engine light will come on when starting car or driving down the road, when braking popping sound comes from left side of car and a little sliding, paint peeling off back bumper. These problems have been happening for 2 years now. Car at repair shop now for brakes.
As I was driving on a city street, my alternator shut down causing everything electrical to stop functioning. I lost control of the vehicle and the brakes were not responding as well. The car kept rolling until I hit a curb.

Was driving down the road on a 90 plus degree day with my air on and radio and all of a sudden the radio shuts off the air shuts off and the heat comes on max all by its self. The winsheild wipers come on . I tried to turn them off but I couldnt. Try to roll the window down but it wouldnt work . Lost my power steering. Try to turn but I couldnt went to next drive way where it was wide enough and turned the car was trying to start while all this was going on. I finally got the car where I tried to stop it but it would not so I push the emerency brake and held the brake while I did that also tried to put the car in gear but it would not allow me to in the message area it read service shifter. Finally the car was dying down and all of a sudden it just shut down. I fear driving that car I am traumatized by this and fear my life in that car because I had no control of it and could not shut it off because the push to start was only like a dumbbie button . It would not do anything.
Transmission service warning & engine service lights come on with transmission going out of gear while the vehicle is at speed. Renders the vehicle inoperable and creates a dangerous situation to oncoming and surrounding motorists. Has happened multiple times. Reported to the dealer on three separate occasions. Requires a shut down and restart/reboot with diminished transmission ability. Yellow service engine light and abs & traction control lights are in the constant on, lighted. Chrysler service codes detect no coded issues. Happening on a greater frequency now, started before 30,000 miles, vehicle now has 43,000 miles on it. Happens in motion, after being parked, just before parking. Frequency is such that I am afraid to drive the vehicle. Chrysler dealer(s) state that do do not have a fix resolved yet for the 2012 models.
Throttle stuck causing the vehicle to accelerate in a parking garage while coming around a turn at approx. 10-15 mph. Brakes were applied with both feet, full force, but the car continued to accelerate. Causing damage to 4 vehicles. Totaling the Chrysler 300, and 3 parked vehicles. One Lincoln mkz SUV, Honda SUV, and a Ford f-150. Skid marks were left indicating the vehicle was not slowing down. No personal injuries, but several thousand of dollars in property damage. Police report was taken, but is not yet available. Report # is 16-2335 with the lansing township police department-lansing, michigan. Incident date 5-23-2016.
Has started visiting a friend in the hospital comma park the car in a parking garage and engage the parking brake. The car was stationary not moving and when I return and disengage the parking brake I noticed my abs and traction control lights are on. I have another issue which I discovered today may 19th 2016 is that when entering the vehicle and starting it everything was normal as I progressed down the road I noticed something a little off and it not wanting to accelerate the rpm seem to be a little jumpy and I check the oil pressure which was really high I turned around immediately and parked the car back at my house. The oil pressure would jump maybe 30 to 40 psi but only reaching 20 miles an hour. I am unaware of what is causing these issues and only discovered it as I was making a turn out of my driveway. I am also unsure of the date that the abs and traction control lights came on but I can say it was before the events on may 19th 2016. My vehicle was purchased February 14th of last year.
Chrysler safety recall p60 failed twice (NHTSA recall #14v-634). Unfortunately today (less than 1 week after 2nd replacement) the alternator failed again leaving the vehicle acting erratically without power steering or power brakes or the ability the shift gears while driving kids to school. Thankfully it was on local streets and able to pull over safely. Sansone (Chrysler dealership) has now twice performed this Chrysler 300 safety recall p60 (electrical/alternator) repair without success. We have opened a new case with Chrysler asking to have it performed at a trusted repair shop in metuchen and receive reimbursement. They have sent us the authorization. If Chrysler dealerships cannot properly diagnose/repair/replace the safety recall problem/parts installed twice (last one last week) that failed again today, at no cost and without delay, dealer should send a vehicle to pickup the car (it cannot be driven more than a few feet before everything shuts down) and we should be permitted to proceed with a reimbursement option at a trusted repair shop. Apologize if it seems rash, but very upset of the potentially dangerous situation if it had failed on the highway at high speeds.
Loud clunking noise when applying brakes to come to a stop and when going over bumps in road/railroad tracks. It has been going on for months. I put todays date as the incident date because it happens daily.
On several occasions over the past few weeks, as the car heats up, the abs fuse seems to lose contact. When this happens, abs/esp (stability control), forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise disable. It has happened both while stationary and moving. If using adaptive cruise control, acceleration and speed maintenance will stop, and could result in an accident (though it has not yet). A similar Chrysler case has been opened and linked to the police variant of a car on the same platform with same engine. Police cars use Dodge chargers with hemi v8, which is the same platform as the Chrysler 300 with a hemi v8, with mostly cosmetic issues. The fuse is not blown, and upon the car cooling down, the system is restored, however, on journeys in which the engine heat rises, the system goes offline. It seems as though this may be a common issue in this platform, however, the TSB only went to the police car variant of essentially the same car. When the issue happens while the car is moving, if the driver has the brakes applied, a bang/grind/scrape sound (such as what is heard when the abs actually engages) can be heard.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler 300. While driving 70 mph, the abs and traction control warning lights illuminated and the vehicle lost traction control and cruise control ability. The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that the low beams, turn signals, and gauges on the instrument panel flickered. In addition, the service engine and tpms warning lights remained illuminated for an extended period of time. The brake pedal was periodically slow to respond and did not fully depress, so the contact constantly had to apply force to ensure that the vehicle stopped. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v567000 (electrical system) and 15v313000 (air bags). The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the parts were not available. The contact was uncertain if the repairs would be completed within a reasonable time frame. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
