1 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

I have owned my Dodge Caravan since April 2016 and have needed 3 extensive brake jobs totaling over $3,000 which included new pads, rotors and calipers. I have read on other sights I am not the only one that has this problem with the same vehicle. I am about to take my vehicle in for the forth time and am very frustrated with this problem. I drive my four children around in this vehicle and need it to be safe. That is why I originally bought this vehicle. No brakes are not safe.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

First is a recall---r03 wireless ignition-the dealership(byford, duncan, ok) in June, 2015 on my first visit the part was not available; after a second visit and two phone calls-"the part is not available"; the last phone call I was told to make an appointment so that "they can see the vehicle and then try to order the part". Contacted the Chrysler group recall assistance center(on hold 30 minutes) and gave them info; they took name and number so they could contact the dealership about their "recall parts inventory" 2nd complaint brakes-bought vehicle new; have to replace front brake pads every 30000 miles and rear brake pads every 50000 miles; Chrysler recall replaced the pads the first time at their expense--per them faulty brake pads not caliper; local mechanic doing the 6 brake jobs thought maybe a new caliper redesign was the problem; Chrysler has no follow up to the initial problem.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

While driving one day, out of the blue my can would not go over 25 to 30 mph. It would shake violently if we went faster. We got it to the mechanic and the brakes had almost caught on fire. It ruined one tire and the brakes and calipers. The mechanic said that this should have never happened. It was extremely dangerous. I reported it to Dodge. They said it had never happened. I want to make sure that it does get reported. I feel like I should be compensated for this. They said that there was nothing they could do since it never actually caught on fire. Really?.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

My husband and I were driving one day, out of thy blue, the van began to shake towards the front of the van. We couldn't get the speed over 25 mph. We got it to the nearest mechanic shop. They said it was the calipers. They said that it was very close to catching on fire. I had to have both calipers replaced and a brake job. I also had to purchase a new tire. I called and reported it to Dodge/Chrysler. They said that there had not been any problems with other vans. It was an extremely scary incident to go through. They said that they might be able to do something if the van had actually caught on fire. That's just crazy. This has cost me about $800. 00. I just want to make sure that this gets reported in case other vans have similar problems. The mechanics were shocked at what they saw. They said that it should not have done what it did.

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2012 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

Rear brakes worn out, scraping metal. Called dealer and they said there was nothing they can do under warrantee. I've been a mechanic for over 40 years and this is just plain equipment failure. The calipers are bad and Chrysler will not admit it because they don't want to pay for a recall. Very dissatisfied with vehicle because the brakes need replacing again at 44000 miles.

Driving only 10 miles the brakes smelled hot. Stopped and checked, touched the lug nut and burned finger they were so hot. Had it taken in and rotors were turned and new brake pads. Old pads were gone. Now at 31600 miles the same thing. Talked to dealership and they will gladly charge us for new rotors and pads but admit the calipers do have a problem. 10 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2004 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

I originally filed a complaint against the pad manufacturer but it seems to be the composite piston in the caliper that is intermittently causing the brakes to overheat. The petal travel goes to zero and the brake is locked. This is a manufactures defect and a hazard. It would be easy for these brakes to fail in highway conditions and have the grease melt out of the bearings from the heat and brake fluid to boil. This car has been garaged its entire life and maintained. It is Chrysler that in the interest of profit created a safety hazard.

11 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2004 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

I replaced the brakes on my 2004 Dodge Caravan with duralast brakes from auto zone. There is a severe problem with the tolerances on the pads. I have been installing brakes for 50 years. There is a sever defect with these replacement parts. The pads will not allow the caliper to retract the pads wedge against the rotor-disc. They caused a vehicle fire from the extreme heat. I contacted auto zone and installed another set . This time it caused the brake on the opposite side to overheat. I got a third set this time I measured the pads with a vernier caliper accurate to 1/1000 inch and they varied by a 1/10 of an inch which is outrageous. That just accounts for unacceptable measurements and not special or orientational defects which I suspect exist but have no exact pattern to compare. These brakes are an extreme hazard.

12 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

Passenger rear wheel became extremely hot with loud humming noise after traveling at 67 mph for a few minutes. Came to find out that the brake caliper had been sticking. 21 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

Rear break components (pads, rotors, lr caliper) at 30k on 12/10/09. Front pads replaces on 1/14/10 at appx 31k: front pads and rotors on 4/2012 (3rd set) at 58k calipers not frozen: this vehicle year was the first year of the 4. 0 l engine. Already engine no longer an option: later model years (2010 and later) have larger callipers and pads. I truly believe this vehicle was redesigned and offered without consideration to the brake system components. The vehicle was so new that my owner manual doesn't reference the 4. 0 liter engine. This model year has numerous complaints of premature break wear.

22 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/13/2009

I purchased a 2010 Dodge Caravan in April of 2010 with 19 miles on it. In August with only aprox 7300 miles I had the rear rotors replaced, because they were too bad to turn. I also complained about the sliding doors rubbing fenders. In October with 11000 miles I placed the van back in shop for doors rubbing fender and rear rotors. At this they turned the rotors and buffed out fenders. In December brake calipers were sticking so they put a adapter on the calipers that was supposed to keep the brakes from sticking. In may with 19000 miles I had the van in shop for front brakes and rotors (recall). While in shop they checked the rear and found rear rotors were bad again, at my cost of 300. 00. Had the car inspected with only 2,000 miles on the new rear rotors and found they have hotspots on them already. The mechanic suggested I have the rear rotors replaced again before the 12,000 miles are up. He said there are already hotspots on the rear. I will be putting my 2010 Dodge Caravan in shop again with 23,500 miles for rear rotors and rattle noise in rear. I am sick of this, I honestly think Chrysler is a joke. 7300,11000,19000, and now 23500. What is it going to take to get this problem fixed? I am not sure these people care about the safety of their customers. They replaced my rotors on the rear again. I filed a claim and Chrysler offered $2500. What a slap in the face. I wish there was more we could do. Please let me know>>.

27 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 02/23/2005

I am writing today because I purchased a 2000 Dodge Caravan in February 2005. Every month since I purchased my car I have had to have the brakes serviced. In March the brakes were dusted off. Again in April the brakes again were dusted off according to the dealership. In may they finally replaced the brakes I believe both front and back. In June I took the car to a different garage and paid to have the breaks replaced again. Then in July the calipers and brakes were replaced. In August the same garage stated that the brakes needed to be replaced and the abs now needs to be replaced. I could only have the brakes done at this time. I have spent over $1000 minimum so far repairing my car. At this point I have not replaced the abs due to lack of funds. Also I was told that the struts needed to be replaced, an alignment needed to be done, rear shocks, and new tires. I need some one to please take a look at this car.

32 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 11/10/2000

I have to change my front brake pads about every other month due to the brakes get to hot and usually the front driver side brake pad just falls off with no warning at all. I have taken this problem in to the dealer and was told that my calipers had to be replaced. I was very happy that it was still covered under the warranty. The dealer had my vehicle for about a week. When I got my van back it was fine for about 5 months, and then the problem started happening again. Now I am stuck with a vehicle that is costing a fortune to keep up the brake pad maintenance. I consider the brakes on a vehicle a lifeline and am surprised that this problem has not been recalled. Every person I know that owns a Dodge Caravan has the same complaint. I bought my van 01/01/00.

This replacement was done on Feb 3, 00. Today March 2, I have a noise coming from the brakes while driving slowly. Will stop by Dodge tomorrow 3/4.
