Service Brakes Problems of Dodge Caravan - part 1

Started the vehicle one morning and drove up to a stop sign. I was in a city street making a left turn. Saw clear from both directions of any traffic. Accelerated and the bas,esp light, and traction light came on. At this point the vehicle wanted to stall, lost power, and steering became difficult. Stopped the vehicle and restarted the engine and accelerated again to about 20 mph and the vehicle repeated the stalling and hesitated to accelerate, once above 30 mph all lights continued on and the vehicle kept driving accordingly. Every time the vehicle is started up and drove from that date of Jan. 26,2021 the vehicle malfunctioning continues. I find this to be a severe mechanical problem and a danger to me, my family, and the public.

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Caravan. While driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact also mentioned that there was a strong odor of fuel inside the vehicle. As a result, the contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained bruising around her chest that required medical attention. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that there was a leak from the radiator and they replaced the hood. The contact also mentioned that her employer owned a fleet of vehicles that experienced the same failures. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 22,000.

This morning at 7:58 am 7. 16. 2019, my car just stopped. Lost all power, could not steer, breaks became hard, no light came on indicating an issue. I was slowing down to go over a speed bump and the car just stopped. I put on my hazards and waited a moment restarted the car. Before that as I was driving the car seemed to feel like the engine was fluttering (?) or losing power then gaining it back. That flutter has been happening on and of for a couple of months, but no lights have come on indicating any issues with the engine. I have gone online and seen many, many posts with people complaining about the car just stopping, taking it to the dealer and dealer not being about to find a cause. This is incredibly dangerous, if this happens on a busy road or on the freeway someone could die!. Thank god my kids were not in the car and I didn't get hit!.

My wife rear-ended another car. She called me and explained what happened after the police had been called. I arrived at the scene shortly after the police. My wife was not able to stop the vehicle when there should have been plenty of time to stop according to her. She was not distracted and felt like the van she was driving had ample room to stop. The vehicle was traveling up an incline on a highway, traffic came to an abrupt stop. The vehicle my wife had the wreck in is a rental vehicle, however; she had driven it for three days leading up to the accident. The unfamiliarity of the rental could have had a part to play in the accident, however; the stop was on an incline and it seems to me the incline would have helped with the stop and somewhat counteracted some of the effects of being unfamiliar with the car. My wife sustained bruises and swelling in the ankles, knees and wrists as well as some neck injuries as a result of the accident. I am not aware of the injuries of the other persons involved in the accident. My complaint is not to redirect blame of the accident to the manufacturer of the vehicle. My concern is that these vans have a known issue with braking distance falling outside acceptable standards. A flaw in the braking may not have caused this accident but, from a logical perspective, given the facts my wife's report of the incident and reading the recall details for this year and model van, it is a definite possibility. My hope is that the wreck was not the result of a manufacturing flaw and that the drivers of these vans are safe with nothing to worry about. Thank you.

Traveling 55 down highway suddenly brake engages and brake came up on dash board. Brake stays on for a minute or so then notice that it sounds as if I am over revving engine. When I could safely pull over I did so put in park for a minute went again as soon as I reached over 35 it still sounded as if I was over revving engine. When I could safely pull over again I shut the vehicle off at this time the windshield wipers start going and the horn is sounding off. I then got out disconnected the battery waited for 5 minites reconnected. I then preceded to go again and still sounded as if I was revving engine put 4 ways on and preceeded home at 25 miles an hour on a secondary road. This is not the first time this has happened it has happened several other times when taken in to the dealer they could not find issue this was while still under warranty. No one has been able to figure it out.

Fuel pump started to not perform causing it for last year really bad gasoline mileage.

Unknown. After refueling, if you fill up the tank all the way the car wll completely lose power once you start driving. This may happen immediately or after you have been driving for a few minutes. I bought this minivan in 2011. I do not drive much so it currently has less than 35,000 miles on it. Nonetheless, I have had to replace the brakes and rotors 4 times (maybe 5) since I have owned it. I just had them replaced again in November, and yet 7 months later, I have to do it again. I have only put some 3,000 miles on it since the last replacement. Something is seriously wrong. The brakes began squeaking and very quickly (like a day or two without my hardly driving it) to the rotors being gone as my pedals are vibrating. I know others are complaining about this here and all over the internet. Something has to be done about this. It is a serious safety issue. Not to mention, incredibly costly to keep up with these costs that I cannot afford.

While driving on a dry road, the light on the dash board went on to indicate the car was sliding. . . The steering wheel locked up, I had no brakes, I had to glide to a stop. This happened 4 times in one day. I was able to glide to a stop, shut the van off, restart it only for it to happen again. I took it to my mechanic who stated it was a computer chip issue and that I would have to go to a dealer to get it fixed for approx $1,800. 00. I could've seriously injured and/or killed myself and those around me.

The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the failure went away. The vehicle was taken to Dodge of burnsville (12101 hwy 35 w s, burnsville, mn 55337, (952) 894-9000) for diagnostic testing, but no failure could be found. The dealer informed the contact that they would update the computer software; however, the failure could recur. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 10,350.

Takata recall. I was taking my children to school and the steering and breaking system completely locked up on me almost causing us to crash into a tree. I was able to push in the emergency break and get the car out of drive. I had no control over the steering nor the regular break. The car was in motion on a city street when the incident occurred.

2017 Dodge grand Caravan was stopped in traffic at a light. My foot slipped off the brake for a second and the vehicle jumped forward quickly, which caused damage to the rear end of an Acura sitting about 10 feet in front of me.

Myself and two others just recently got into a car accident and my airbags didnt go off . Thank god that we had our seatbelts on. A car cut a bus off on hwy44 wwst in inverness FL, we all had to hit our brakes and ending up hitting another car at 30-40 mph. When made inpack with the other car the airbags did not go off leading to injuries and had to go to the hospital.

Rodent chewed through brake fluid level circuit wiring. Wire connector chewed through. The vehicle was parked on the street in green valley ,az. Repair at larry h. Miller Dodge of tucson, az. Cost 451. 65 which was a rip-off.

Bought brand new with bad brakes in 2014 and was never informed by dealer until state inspection 2018. Lives were endanger, because of bad brakes vehicle was damaged on the passenger side in front to rear side light panel due to bad brakes the vehicle was not stationary on certain streets and unsafe on wet streets.

My van cuts off while driving. Its very dangerous. I've almost been been rear ended a few times. I've had the ignation changed as part of the recall but my van has been cutting off everyday now. This happens more when you first start driving the car. About 2 minutes after the van has been started to drive.

Faultly brake calipar - keep hanging up and causing tire to get hot and smoke comes out very hot.

When driving down the road at 25 mph the drivers seat all of sudden fell back (the top seat) and wont stay up in position. It seems that it is faulty due to a mechanism not being attach correctly. I have not been able to get the seat fixed due to high costs. Also the rear chassis brake tube seem to rust extremely and create itself a hole.

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was not made available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to provide the part to do the repair. While driving approximately 40 mph, the engine seized twice and the steering and brakes seized. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

While turning into a parking space I touched break and the van accelerated to full throttle. The van jumped the curb and was heading toward 3 people, I turned the steering wheel enough to hit a light pole instead of them. The van quit racing for a few seconds and then revved up again. The light pole fell and I was again headed toward the people. I put both feet on the break and was able to stop the van, but not before hitting the people. Luckily they were just bruised because I just bumped them and didn't run over them. This all happened in a matter of seconds. I almost killed some people and no longer have transportation because the van was totaled.

I complained to dealer within the first year I purchased (2009) about my car cutting off while driving. I had it checked, nothing found. This only happened once in a while and progressively got worse. By the time I had recall notice in August of 2014 this happened quite often. I have driven a mile and car would cut off up to 5 times!!! sometimes I can go several miles and it not happen but its so bad now its pretty much every time I drive. When this occurs I cannot control steering or brakes. I had to rent a car to go out of town this past week. I pick my granddaughter up from school every day and I have nothing else to drive. I have contacted dealer many times who just put me off. They give me phone numbers for Chrysler who never answer. I am sure the condition of my car is more critical than most of the recalls. There will be an accident. I think I should be provided with something safe to drive until my car is fixed. I am on disability, on a fixed income and cannot afford to rent or buy a car. Please help me. All I get is the run around and put on hold!.

As I was driving, the electrical system on my 2005 Dodge Caravan wheelchair-accessible minivan failed completely, shutting down my power brakes, power steering, all dashboard indicators, and all vehicle lights (including the four-way flashers). Fortunately, the engine continued to run, so I was able to pull it to the side of the road. This has happened to me twice. The first time we took it to our regular mechanic, who could not find anything wrong. After it happened the second time, a Dodge dealer mechanic told me that the automatic braking system locking mechanism had failed and shorted out the entire electrical system and would cost $900 to repair. It also cost an extra $500 to replace the mechanism that the part is attached to because it had rusted so severely. These incidents were frightening because it was difficult to pull the car over to the side of the road without power steering and power brakes. It would have been worse if it had happened at a higher speed or at night since all my lights would have shut off. I would consider buying a newer wheelchair van if they were not so incredibly expensive.

I have filed 2 complaints regarding recall l25 for Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. 2009 Dodge grand Caravan completely shutting down while driving. Steering goes out, brakes out. Complete power out while driving. This is very dangerous and scary. I have children I have to take to multiple places. By the grace of god, the 5 times this happened, we . Were on slow moving, non busy roads near home. I have not yet experienced this on the highway. It would be potentially fatal. I usually drive in the lanes on the outside so if it occurs, I may be able. To pull off to the side. I have to take the highway daily to work. There were 5 occurrences, 2 in October 2014 and now recently 3 mores times close together, Dec. 20, 23 and Jan 11, 2015. I have contacted Chrysler customer service 3 times. I was advised to remove keys or anything hanging from fob, I have and this does not help the issue or is even the cause. I do not think they know why this problem is occurring. Chrysler really needs to speed up the recall process before there are fatalities.

The van accelerated when pulling into an angled parking space at walmart, villa rica, georgia and impacted a parked car in the adjacent row, causing that vehicle to roll backward for approximately 20 feet before impacting a third car. Our van was stopped in the parking space previously occupied by the 2nd vehicle. Witnesses reported hearing strange noises and saw the impact as it occurred. No injuries. Vehicle is being repaired and will be examined by the repair shop to see if they can determine what occurred.

This is the fourth set of brakes I have put on the van in 3 years, I just put the last set on last year. It seems Dodge has many others unhappy after research. I checked and the rotor was scarred and the pad rubbed to the metal. The brakes have less than 15,000 miles on them and there is no excuse for this. This would be a serious situation if my wife could stop with my kids in the car. The brakes had started squeeking last Sunday and I replaced again last night. This is a safety issue as they are going out way too quickly.

After smelling brakes during a 10 mile trip to local store I looked at rear drivers side rotor to see it glowing cherry red in the night. Extreme heat was coming from the wheel well and wheel camber appeared to be affected from excessive heat. Working on trying to get it in for a warranty check, but to me this is ridiculous for a vehicle 2 years old with 25k miles. Sounds like mechanical failure of the caliber which I could replace myself, but from what I've read online this is a repetitive issue and a huge money pit.

Driving and start smelling burning stop and my brakes are smoking to the point it's almost on fire and so hot can't touch or will be burnt. Worried for safety of my kids happend about 10 times now if not more. Got it checked out said nothing is wrong don't know why it's doing it. And have changed my rotters 3 times and brakes 5 times.
