Brake Electric Antilock Problems of Dodge Caravan - part 1

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 5mph engaging the brakes and attempting to stop, the brakes locked and he was unable to stop immediately. The faiure occurs intermittently. There were no warning lights present. The VIN and engine size were not available. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by a dealer. While driving 55 mph, smelled smoke. Then, dashboard went blank. Consumer saw smoke coming from edge of hood, he pulled over and saw flames from underneath vehicle. Vehicle at dealership at this time. Dealer determined abs system caught on fire. Damage unknown.

While driving, consumer can step on brake pedal and rear tires will lock up. Vehicle will keep rolling without stopping. Had taken vehicle to dealer to be repaired, but defect could not be corrected.

With no warning and in normal driving conditions, the vehicle will not stop while applying braking pressure. Braking failure occurs without warning and only allows for about a 20% braking function even when applying full pressure to the brake pedal. No codes are stored (as per the dealer) and after an incident, the brake will function normally. Dealer has looked the the brake system twice and claims there is no problem. However the loss of braking function occurs randomly. Dealer refuses to replace any parts because no codes have been saved in the computer.

Brakes were changedat every 4,000 miles according to records. Dealership was aware of problem. Also, when applying brakes vehicle would not stop.

Front rotors were warping due to excessive wear, and causing problem with braking properly or delayed stopping. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under a manufacturer's recall, and vehicle wasout of its warranty. Any repairs would be at consumer's cost. When driving at a low rate of speed and upon depressing brake pedal to make a normal stop, abs system kicks in, causing poor braking performance, and resulting in extended stopping distance.

Mechanic infomed the cosumer that brake problem was due to the plastic parts used on the brake system, which may causes the brakes to wear out at 52000 miles, instead of 800000 or more of normal wears. Dealer notified.

Brakes are defective, brakes go to floor when applied, resulting in extended stopping distance. When pedal is pushed very hard, the car continues to roll. Investigator looked at the car and cannot remedy the problem.

Brake system is defectiive. The brakes have been replaced and the vehicle still does not stop. When brakes are applied, it results in extended stopping distance. Dealer states that if red indicator light does not come on then there is no problem, and cannot duplicate the problem.
