3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

While driving in city traffic, I felt sluggish acceleration from a stop light. The next stop light the brakes felt hard, and again acceleration was slow. After a few minutes of driving I smelled my brakes burning and I took the car in to the closest repair shop. Smoke was pouring out of both front wheel wells. Brakes locked, pads and rotors burnt, master cylinder not allowing fluid to return. Master cylinder replaced with front pads and other work. Exact same problem occurred 15 weeks later. Different shop. Replaced abs unit. Same problem encountered 8 weeks later after minimal driving. 2nd shop fixed the problem, but no write up because he fixed for free. 1 year later, same problem. Brakes locked, brakes burning, brakes smoking. It sits in my driveway as I try to determine what to do about this car.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

2009 Dodge grand Caravan (stow and go) extreme heat and strong smell of overheated brakes coming mostly from rear brakes. The heat generated in an average 16 mile drive under normal operating conditions causes enough heat and strong brake smell that you can hardly touch the plastic hubcap mounted on the steel wheels. The emergency brake has never been used and has never been activated accidentally. The smell can be noticed all the way around the vehicle from inside and outside particularly in the rear. I am retired ase certified technician with 45 ase certifications and 50 years in the profession. I would suspect residual valve in master cylinder, sticking calipers, or parking brake components. The rear brake sensors have been touching since 16,000 miles. VIN #[xxx] purchase date 28 Feb 2009. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I think now after watching the story on the news that it was the brakes that did not hold. I think all cars need to have this interlock brake on them. I want to know how I can get interlock brakes on my van. If I had of known that my van did not have that on it I would have brought another type van. #even our insurance company said that this was the safety van. Please help.
