Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact noticed a vibration in the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician replaced the front brake pads and rotors. The failure continued after the repair. The contact noticed the brakes would hesitate to respond when the pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 11,500. Kmj.
My 2005 Dodge Caravan smelled strong gasoline odor in and out. When I took it to the mechanic he knew exactly what was wrong because he serviced 3 vans like mine with similar issue. When he lifted my van and started the gas started to pour. The fortunate part was that I am lucky that it didn't explode on me while driving. Here is the worst part, I called rancho Jeep Chrysler in san diego to order a new fuel pump, I was told that the parts is nationally back ordered and it will take 3 to a month waiting period and nowhere available as per parts technician. If it is back ordered nationally, will it constitute recall? this situation is a major safety violation just waiting a major explosion to occur. My van only has 50k miles in it and I bought it brand new and always service timely. I am hoping that the company will take some action immediately to prevent costly lawsuits. I am receiving all my receipts as a proof when something happen. I will be the first one to come forward. My second complain is the lock, it is very uncomfortable if you manually lock and unlock all doors. I have to pull out the iod fuse every time to reset, this is also a national issue because I found this from the blogs of other Dodge Caravan owners. My 3rd complain is why is my front brakes always shake no matter what I do to it. I replaced both rotors and pads 3x and still warping.

Earlier this year, late spring, had bad vibration when applying the brakes, found out it was due to warped brake rotor(s). I took the van to a mechanic and he stated that he had the same issue with his Chrysler town and country van and explained that Chrysler would do nothing about it. Just last week I went to get the van inspected and it would not pass inspection because of the brake vibration. I did receive some letters from Chrysler in the mail about the front brake pads and rotors, and also the front wheel bearings, so I called the dealership. The dealership told me that there was nothing for the rear rotors / brakes, and this is where the problem was that would not allow the van to pass inspection. I paid $265. 00 to have the back rotor(s) cut and then have the front brakes / rotors replaced (for the known issue with the front) and after cutting the rear rotors there was still a slight vibration in the brakes! to pay over $600. 00 every 1 1/2 years for front and rear rotors / brakes is unreal. I bought a brand new van because I didn't want to have to worry about major repair $ for a long time. The reason for the warped rotors is the braking system is either undersized, or there is a serious design flaw. When I search the internet I find all sorts of hits on Chrysler vehicles for brake / rotor issues, past and present. I wish I would have seen this before I bought the van.
Vehicle purchased in puerto rico with 40,000+ miles; replaced a rotor & all pads about 65,000 miles. Could hear noises coming from brake mechanism (noises went away upon replacement of brakes with oem parts). Around 70,000 miles the vehicle started locking itself without warning, at least twice with keys inside. Imagine a hot day and a child in a restraint seat and the car locked. I did notice that about the same time, the power lock switch on the drivers side became inoperable. Now at 78,892 the whole electrical instrument panel went on the blink (blank), except for the digital mileage indicator & 'gate ajar' . I stopped for groceries & when I went to crank the starter solenoid, nothing happens. Had to tow home & am told that local dealers are charging $1,000 to reprogram the computer. . . . No wonder less & less people are buying american brand cars. Any suggestions?
I do appreciate the NHTSA efforts. Thankyou!.

Year and half ago we received a recall letter from Dodge concerning our 2008 Dodge Caravan, reference to the front brake pads. Its seeems the brake pads were defective due to early wear out. The recall pads were replace by scott evans Dodge according to service manager with a pad that more metal in the composition of the pad. Now a year and few months later , I took my car in for front end realignment and scott evans is saying the brake pads that replaced the recall pads are now showing early wear out and should be replaced!!!!!! how is this possible, my car only has 31687 miles on it and now brakes pads are being replaced twice. My concern is the pads they put ont to replace the recall pads were also defective due to early wear out also. Being this deal with vehicle brake please investigate and found if Dodge is replacing recall pads and possible defective pads due to early wear out also. My wife and are in our late 50's and do not travel alot nor are our driving habits our of the norm. The miles on the car refect this. Please investigate rick page.
My 2010 Dodge Caravan only has 20k miles and the brake rotors are out of round they vibrate when braking the dealer sta6ted that turning the rotors would fix it but the brake pads are like new . I have owned lots of vehicles over the years and have gone 50 to 70k mile before brake service. I feel that this is a manufactoring problem and it should be looked into.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 5 mph the contact heard a squeaking sound in the front drivers side while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the brake pads needed to be replaced. After the brake pads were replaced the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice. The technicians stated the sound was caused by the brakes and was due to the design of the brakes. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Both front and rear brakes of the vehicle have worn out prior to 30,000 miles. The fronts were gone at 18k, the rears gone right at 30k. The front brakes were replaced under an "extended warranty", but, the rears had to be fixed personally, dealer wanted to charge almost 300 dollars to fix a problem they knew they had. I know the front brakes probably allready are half way worn down again after only 12k miles on the replacement pads.
2008 Dodge Caravan. Normal driving led to brakes wearing out and rotors needing to be replaced at 12000 miles and rear brakes wearing out at 17000 miles. Dodge is putting inferior pads and rotors on the front and inferior brake pads on the back. They know this is a problem. Most autos will go much further on pads. I believe they have done this deliberately in order to get more volume in the service bays at the dealership.
2008 Dodge Caravan brake rotors have worn down prior to the brake pads.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 35 to 40 mph on normal road conditions there was a strong burning odor and an excessive heat build up coming from the brake system. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection which required replacement of the front and rear brakes; front and rear rotors. The contact was displeased with the costly repair as a result of the early brake system failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 11,998.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. While driving, he noticed that the rear brakes were making a squeaking noise. A local mechanic stated that the rear brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced since the calipers were sticking to the rotors which caused them to become warped. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by an authorized dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 59440.
I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan. The brake pads and rotors were replaced in June of 2009. Bendix brake pads and bendix rotors were used. On December 15, 2009, both brake rotors failed causing a total loss of braking. While slowing down a loud bang came from the front of the van. The brakes did not feel right at this point. While looking for a safe place to pull over and stop, another loud bang was heard. At that point the van had no brakes. The van was stopped using the parking brake. Upon investigation it was found that both front brake rotors had failed. The middle hub section of the rotor had separated from the rotor. The failure was the same in both rotors. No other damage was present on the van. Both front rotors were replace on the van to correct the problem. I still have the old rotors.

My 2008 Dodge Caravan needs front and rear pads and my dealer said the rotors could be cut. I told him to take it off the lift. I can't afford that right now - just paid 2 college tuition payments. We bought the car brand new and this happened at 24,000. I do not drive fast. My hubby's Toyota has almost 30,000 mi. And does not need brakes and he's a little tougher on a car!.
2008 Dodge grand Caravan brake wear. On 10/01/09 my 2008 Dodge Caravan with 13901 miles on the speedometer required the front and rear brake pads be replaced and front and rear rotors be turned. In August of 2010 Chrysler group llc, the manufacturer of Dodge Caravan, sent me a limited warranty extension for 2008 Dodge Caravans front brakes. The letter states in part that "should the front brake components on your vehicle need to be replaced due to a defect in materials, workmanship or factory preparation", "Chrysler will pay for the cost of parts and labor","less a $50 deductible". On 08/23/10 my 2008 Dodge Caravan with 25494 required that front and rear brake pads and front and rear rotors be serviced again. Chrysler authorized the replacement of the front brake pads and rotors but would not authorize the replacement of the rear brake pads or rotors. Chryslers customer assistance representative "britney" stated that Chrysler was working on an extended warranty for the rear brakes. I believe that by issuing the extended warranty on the front brakes Chrysler is well aware of a problem with the braking system on the 2008 Dodge Caravan. Chrysler, I believe, has initiated a silent recall, if you will, due to a flaw in the engineering design of it's braking system.
I bought a 2008 Dodge Caravan from dealer on Jan,1 2008. Replaced front brake pads at @ 25,000 miles. I had to replace rear brakes at @ 45,000. Just replaced the front pads again along with new rotors at 54,000 miles.
Needed new brakes, rotors , pads & on front wheels after only 30,000 miles.
I purchased a brand new 2008 Dodge grand Caravan in oct. 2008. At 22,226 miles the dealership replaced front brake pads and machined front rotors. At 29,595 they machined the front brake rotors again. There was still shimming in the brakes so at 29,847 I took the car back to dealership. They replaced front brake rotors, machines rear brake rotors and replaced rear brake pads. At 31,854 my brakes were constantly squeaking. Dealership inspection brakes and said "normal characteristic of this model/brake. Under certain conditions due to material type and glazing brake life is approximately 90% life remaining front and rear. " then at 35,665 I brought back to dealership for another inspection. I reported "excessive brake noise. " their response was "brakes ok. Approximately 65% life remaining. Noise detected was characteristic. No abnormal conditions detected at this time. " so basically in just 3,800 miles I went through 30% of the brakes life. This is after having front and rear pads and rotors replaced. I have received a letter stating Chrysler is extending warranty of front brakes to 36,000 miles. My problem is that what happens after 36,000 miles and what about the rear brakes? how do I know I am driving with safe brakes? the dealers response was to bring the vehicle in for inspections. I called and spoke to the "Chrysler recall team" and was told there are upgraded parts for the brakes on my vehicle but the dealership says that because I'm past the 36,000 miles they will not correct the problem with the upgraded parts.
Brake replacement -rotor -pads- front and rear - 16790 miles.
Early wear on brake pads and rotors. Brakes and rotors were replaced three times. Mileage was 20,000 at first repair 40,000 miles at last repair. Traded in vehicle for 2010 grand Caravan. Same issues with 2010 and 17,000 miles.
Brake pads and rotors failed after 15,000 miles and have been replaced about every 15,000 miles. I have replaced them 4 times in 2 years.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Caravan. While braking from 50
mph, the brakes locked without warning. In order to release the brakes, the contact would have to shift the vehicle into reverse. The failure occurred intermittently on several occasions. In addition, the contact stated the brake drums would become extremely hot and turn blue. The dealer advised there was not a failure in the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where he was informed that the brakes were defective and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was serviced with new drums, rotors, and brakes pads. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 73,000.

Premature brake wear - front pads at 15,423 miles - front pads and rotors at 30,687 miles.
Almost total loss of braking ability. Brakes also wear out too fast. The minivan has only 35000 miles and just had the second set of pads at 31000 miles. Yesterday while driving in the mountains the brakes over heated and almost caught fire (a lot of smoke). I was staying off the brakes as much as possible and in 3rd gear not od. I have never had this problem with other vehicles. I was able to use a long turnout to slow down in and stop after smelling the brakes overheating.

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. The contact noticed excessive brake dust on the tires of his vehicle. He also noticed that the rotors were of a softer metal than the brake pads, which could cause premature rotor wear. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 5,800.
- the contact complained about the 2003 Dodge Caravan brake system which was purchased on July 19, 2003. The contact explained that there was a problem with the bolts that held the right brake caliper over the driver's side rotor. The contact explained that in December 2005 the vehicle was taken to precision tune auto care at 10515-b centrum parkway pinesville, north carolina 28134. The vehicle had 31015 miles. The rotors began to smoke and needed to be replaced along with the pads. The contact was told that the rotors were overheated because the pads wore out prematurely because the squeaker never alerted the contact of any problems with the brakes. The contact explained that on seven months later on August 2006 the brakes were inspected due to squeaking. On the 20 March of 2007 the contact experienced vibration coming from under the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately stopped and then taken to precision tune. They contact was told that there was a bolt missing from the right front driver side caliper housing. The contact wanted to file a complaint against the major brake companies to better secure these bolts on to caliper housing units to avoid any of these bolts from coming off the vehicle. The contact suggested safety standards for brakes pads, and caliper installation to prevent this from happening. The consumer stated the reapir shop would be using a lock tight liquid on the mounting bolts. Updated 04/12/07.

: the contact stated at 33,000 miles the front brakes needed to be replaced. When the dealer was contacted they determined that if they had been alert in 12,000 they could have provided assistance. The vehicle was then taken to a independent repair shop who acknowledged that the front brakes were worn out but the rear brakes looked untouched. From the day the vehicle was purchased there was dust on the front wheels. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer for regular maintenance and the dealer was asked about the dust they stated there was nothing wrong.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph and engaging the brake pedal the vehicle pulled to the left. The brake pedal felt as if he was applying pressure to cement. The dealer replaced the rotors and the brake pads previously and the failure has continued to occur. The dealer was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 27,000.

Purchased 2003 Dodge Caravan August 10, 2003. June 9, 2004 - 11,438 miles - brakes replaced, rotors resurfaced. October 23, 2004 - 16,533 miles - rotors resurfaced. March 5, 2005 - 21,887 miles - faulty brake pads replaced, rotors removed and replaced. September 24, 2005 - 29,609 miles - rotors resurfaced January 4, 2006, 33,071 miles - recommended brakes replacement and rotor resurfacing, dealership refusing to honor warranty for brakes with less than 12 month or 12k miles.
The contact stated the brake pads wore out, he had vehicle inspected at a private repair shop. When he contacted the dealership, they said the warranty expired.
I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan and when it had about 20000 miles, the brakes began to act weird. In November of 2005, my wife rear-ended another vehicle because the brake pedal went almost to the floor and the brakes wobbled. I had the brakes replaced right after the accident, but now the brakes are doing the same thing. The vehicle now has 34000 miles and I am going to take it to the dealer for inspection.
Monday, March 12, 2007 I am planning to up grade my Caravan se to a newer car and before I change to a new problem I what to solve my old problem!!! the Caravan to me is an excellent car on the highway very comfortable and stable. In 2003 I perches a new Caravan fist I researched to check on possible defects. With 18 thousand I was told I needed new brake pads at 20. 000 the metal started to rub on the rotor. Interestingly only the inner passenger side shoes had excessive where. To me this was unusual on all my new cars I never needed brakes before 30 thousand. When I tried to put a new shoes, the only shoes that would fit was specified for. Disc brakes on the back model, which mine, have drums. And the brakes specified for drums on the back did not fit! I have tried to find out why my car has disc on front made for model that had disc on the back if mine has drums on the back??? the car always skidded when brakes wear applied heavily to correct the problem I put the best michelins on the car. It dos not skid because of the michelins except the brakes do not stop the car!! now I have noticed the car dos not stop when you pot the pedal to the floor I put new brakes and rotor at sears and the problem seems to be a design problem! can you tell me how to correct the problem? before I get into a major accident!!! to me it seems only one wheel is stopping the car!!! and for a fairly new car this is a designer problem!!! this model car has bin made for all most 20 year and there is no risen for designer flows. If you cannot answer this simple problem I will not be acquiring any more Chrysler ore mercedes products in my lifetime!!! thanking in advance.
Driving in normal winter conditions, less than 2 inches of snow, not less than 20 degrees in weather, my antilock brakes froze up, causing me to spin out. Luckily I did not hit anything or crash. $800 worth of damage, brake lining froze to drum. Had to replace brake pads, drums, wheel bearings in both rear wheels.
