Brake Disc Pads Problems of Dodge Caravan - part 2

Brake pads and rotor have needed to be replaced twice, November of 2004, and August of 2005.

While driving at 55 mph a loud clanking noise was heard coming from the passenger side wheel. The steering wheel shook violently. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic replaced the pads and both frontal rotors, but the problem still existed.

While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. This caused the consumer to lose braking power. But the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that front brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced.

I own a 2002 Dodge Caravan se 3. 3 liter engine. Since I have had this vehicle,(bought in August 2003) I have had to buy new tires, had to have the tires rotated & balanced 4 times and because of the popping noise have to have the sway bar bushings replaced and have a new rotor and brakes replaced. The vibration due to the brakes wearing and rotors is unreal and know I am not the only person having the brake and rotor problem. There has been only 15,000 miles put on these brakes and are having to have them replaced again. Something is not right and this needs to be checked into. Thank you.

While driving 35 mph the front brakes caught on fire. The dealer was notified and replaced the brake pads. The pads only had 1500 miles on them.

My 2000 Dodge Caravan with only 29,450 miles developed a severe vibration in the steering wheel accompanied by a disconcerting noise when braking. Prior to the vibration developing, I noticed the braking power had diminished. Upon investigation, I found the brake fluid was below the minimum level and had to add fluid. This improved the brake pedal performance but the stopping power was still subpar. Also, whenever I wash the vehicle there has always been a tremendous amount of black brake dust on and around the front wheels which raises environmental concerns for me. I took the car to the dealer who found the front brake pads were worn out and the front rotors were rusted, pitted, and slightly warped. Even though the car is only 2 1/2 years old and had only 29,450 miles, daimler Chrysler refused any warranty consideration on the brakes. I had to pay nearly $300 for repairs. When I called the daimler Chrysler consumer hotline, I was given the impression that this condition was considered "normal. " the minivan is driven gently with about 70% of the mileage being in-town driving and about 30% highway driving. On previous vehicles I have owned, the average life of front brakes has been about 85,000 miles. Needless to say I am concerned about the safety my family in the vehicle if the brakes are designed with such poor durability.

Consumer states that the brakes on the vehicle are not working properly. The brake pads have worned down to the point where it is metal against metal. Contacted dealer three times already and the dealer has tried to remedy the problem but without any success.

Brakes do not work properly; brakes at first were jumping, then brakes were wearing out. Contacted dealer, and dealer has changed brake pads. But, problem still occurs.

Brakes shutter and vibrate. Consumer has to put foot almost to the floor to stop the vehicle, took to dealer and they replaced rotors and pads. They have been replaced 3 different times. Currently, rotors need to be replaced again. Vehicle had been in 6 times for brakes.

Left front brake pad and rotor unevenly worn causing consumer to hear a metal on metal noise.

Poor front disc design. Pads worn out 3 times in less than 40k miles. $235 per repair.

Brakes pads and rotors failed.

Brakes are pulsating, the pedal jump up and down, can hear rubbing. Dealer was notified and states that the pads are good, but the rotors are bad. Also other vehicles have had the same problems, but not this particular one. Consumer states that the speed ranges from 35-50 mph when driving.

Vehicle's rear brake pads just wear out.

Brake shoes and pads failed.

At 30,000 miles the front and rear brake pads are prematurely wearing, and the wheel cylinders are leaking. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.

Rotors became noisy and vibrated, new pads and rotors installed twice.

While having vehicle serviced noticed that left brake pads were out. Please provide further information.

Under normal brake application the pads have worn down too fast. Cause is unknown. Please describe.

When driving at any speed, went to apply for the brakes and the brakes locked up three times. Consumer had to replace the brake pads due to pads being burned up. Went to apply the brakes and there was a knocking noise coming from the brakes.
