Brake Disc Problems of Dodge Caravan

Brakes wear prematurely under normal driving conditions. Two (2) sets of front pads and rotors have been replaced within 33,000 miles. Inboard side of pads and rotors were deeply scored. Outboard sides were ok. Could the brake calibers be defective? dealer has not suggested that the calibers be replaced, which are under warranty.

Brakes would shutter when depressed. Consumer took vehicle to dealer ,and they replaced pads and rotors consumer insisted that pads and rotors should have been able to be turned instead of replaced. Also, parts were defective, and manufacturer should not sale these parts. Consumer feared for safety of child. Please provide any further information.

It's unfair and frustrating for consumers like us to purchase a car and later found out continuosly full of problems that we have to keep spending money on rapairing. Consumers need a place to file this complaint and get a solution for it. No safety defec tmentioned.

Landmark Dodge realigned the front end and replaced both calipers during a three month timespan. This did not eleminate the problem. I contacted the manufacture, and was asked to take the vehicle to champion crysler for a second opinion. I did this. They told me that the alignment was way out of specfications for this vehicle and they reset it to sepcs. I then was asked to test the vehicle to see if they had made a change. I did this. While testing the vehicle a large Ford pickup pulled out in front of my wife. She hit the brakes and the wheels locked and our vehicle made a 90 degree right turn without her even turning the steering wheel. At this point I returned the vehicle to champion crysler and refused to drive it any longer. My family's safety is more important to me than to let them ride in this defective vehicle.

Brakes pulsate and vehicle vibrates. Dealership is aware of problem.

With the minivan in reverse gear backing up,at 5mph from a distant of 100ft and then apply brake pedal, fail to stop the minivan. The engine pick up speed,while foot is still on brake and minivan is turn to left moving in a circle in a parking area causing damage to my minivan and another car park in area.

Brakes squalling had checked and replaced within 5 days problem returned.

The front, driver side calipers do not release which overheat the wheel. On two occasions the brake pads have sheared off, and when the tires are removed to inspect, studs easily brake off. Sears auto center broke off two studs after the 1st incident, and I broke off one stud after the 2nd incident on June 15, 2001. The negherbon service dept had replaced the caliper kit (springs and tracks) on 3/13/01. The wheel gets so hot that you burn your finger if you touch it. This problem does not happen every time. The overheating happens during times when the brakes are used often (benicia is very hilly), and does not happen during highway rides, when there is no traffic. My concern is that when the brakes starts to heat up do to use, the caliper does not release as freely, and eventually locks up and does not release at all (after the 1st incident I had to hammer off the old brake pads/caliper assembly from the rotor). Hopefully you can help identify the root problem before this causes a serious accident. I am very concerned that this overheating will cause a blowout or a wheel to come off if the studs fail while the van is being driven.

Braking performance less than ideal since purchase. Brake rotors found to be out-of round, and pads showed signs of heat damage. Replaced at manufacurer's expense. Likely manufacuring defect, as vehicle has been driven quite gently, and has less than 12,000 miles.

Vechicle purchased in Feb. Of 1999, rotors & pads were changed in Aug 1999, 21000 miles later both rotors & pads need to be changed again.

Front brake rotors and pads needed to be replaced at 14,000 mile of wear. Can NHTSA provide additional information on this matter.

Took vehicle 5 times to dealer . When applying brakes at 55-60 mph they pulsate, braking distance normal.

Consumer was traveling 60- 70mph and vehicle started shimmying when brakes were applied. Dealer changed rotors/shaved/ rotor/ change pads, and aligned vehicle. All 4 things were done to rectify problem, no remedy.

From the time that we purchased this vehicle, we have had an on-going problem with the brakes. When we are at a speed of greater than 60mph and begin braking, we have a vibration in the front end. It is afffecting the handling of the vehicle. The first time it was taken to the dealer on 4-20-99-they resurfaced the rotors. On 5-19-99, it went in for the same problem-they replaced the rotors. On 6-15-99, it went in for the same problem-they replaced the rotors, balanced and rotated the tires. On 7-20-99, it went in for the same problem, this time they resurfaced the rotors. As we drove this vehicle home, we discovered that the vehicle still has a vibration in the front end when braking. The service tech that we have dealt with tell us there is nothing wrong with the front end.

All four brake rotors deteriorated. Dealer has been contacted. Pads replaced. Mjs.

While driving there is a grinding noise coming from the vehicle, and the brake pads and the rotors went out. The consumer states the steering wheel is vibrating ,and the vehicle is pulling to the right. Also ,the pedal vibrates when driving.

While the vehicle is in reverse and backing up heard a scrapping noise, and took the vehicle to a mechanic. Front brakes malfunctioned. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with brake system on the front driver's side, premature wear of brake pads and calipers which were replaced. Also,consumer complained of extended stopping distance whenever brake are applied. Dealer notified.

Dodge does not want to pay for the defective brake systems. Even when this is the second time in two years.

Brakes are defective, and rotors/pads have failed four different times. Also causing brakes to grind. Dealers cannot correct cause.
