The manufacturer stated that the failure was not under warranty. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 50,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Dakota. While driving 45 mph, the engine in her vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle lost complete power. The fuel gauge dial dropped below empty when the gas tank was more than halfway full. The vehicle was able to be restarted after a few attempts. After the engine restarted, the fuel gauge dial remained below empty and never returned to the original position. The contact drove the vehicle home and did not have it inspected by a dealer. Three days after the incident, the failure recurred. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off again, but was able to restart after a few attempts. The dealer could not determine the cause of the failure. They found recalls on the vehicle, but none that were related to this failure. The vehicle is currently parked at the contact's residence because she is scared to drive. The current and failure mileages were 4,108.

The key can be pulled out while the car is running. I did this by accident about 5 years ago. It has happened several times since. I just read the article about the current gm recall in the USA today newspaper. I'm not concerned about it being a safety issue as I understand it. I try not to pull it out anymore as I think that would loosen it up more. I don't think it ever goes out of the run condition. I believe there are several oem's (if not all when the vehicle gets old) that have this issue and I also believe that it is not a real safety issue. The customer knows they have an issue which makes them share on the liability. I just reported this on my Saturn vue as well. The key comes out much easier on the Dodge than on the Saturn. The ignition slot is much looser on the Dodge.

Bought the truck used and the temperature and oil pressure gauge started to fluctuate and engine killed over. Now, repair shops are stating that they are now seeing this problem quite frequently for the 4. 7l Dodge Dakota engines because of the oil pan proximity to the engine. Repair shops stated a new/rebuilt engine is needed: ~$3,500-$5,000 just for the engine and ~$1,000 for labor!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Dodge Dakota. The contact stated that when the vehicle ignition is turned to the on position, steam comes from the vents. The failure recurred several times. : the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, there was a strong odor of gasoline present. Upon initial inspection, no leaks were detected. The contact alerted the dealer who instructed the contact to start the engine and upon doing so, flames erupted from the engine compartment. The fire quickly spread consuming the vehicle. No injuries were sustained, but the vehicle was a total loss. The fire department was alerted, and extinguished the flames. The police were on the scene and a report was taken. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where a factory representative inspected the vehicle. The findings of the inspection were not divulged. The manufacturer was notified.
2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab v8 2wd. Vehicle has been to original dealer 3-4 times. Once to replace the rear brakes under a recall. At least 2-3 times to "fix" a rough idle and a miss at light throttle cruising speed. Original dealer called it a "fish bite. " is that a technical term I missed? another called it "beaming. " I guess these are technical terms learned at big city dealer school. Driving at speeds from 25-85 mph truck seems to run rough. And also seems to have lost some power. Mpg has gone from 18. 5 to 15. Have been told everytime "we reset the computer, nothing is wrong, ergo it is "fixed. " not finding a problem is not fixing it. Truck still runs rough at highway speed. Have also been told this is "normal. " "they all do that. " funny how this has just come about in the past 3-4 weeks. But at least the brake problem has not come back. At least one other dealer is willing to look at it again and try to help. Original dealer has offered nothing. I really, really, really hate this truck.
: the contact stated the vehicle is a four wheel drive and the oil pan on the vehicle sits below the truck frame. The oil pan is to close to the ground and does not have a skid plate therefore, debris punctures the pan. The manufacture has been alerted but stated there are know recalls for the failure therefore, no repairs have been made.
I have been trying to get Chrysler to fix the vibration/or wobbling sensation in my 05 Dodge Dakota since October. They did replace the axles but the truck still vibrates. They will not work on my truck- they say everything is normal and I disagree. I believe there are safety issues here. My 3. 7 v6 engine has a lower engine knock at slow idles. They refuse to acknowledge the sound or say it is normal. I have been to the dealership several times and had to finally hire a lawyer for advice. I have also had problems with my heater not working and transmission/rear end making unexplained noises. I'm very frustrated and disappointed with the truck and how Chrysler is handling the situation.
At 42000 miles the oil pressure gauge started dropping at the top of a hill. In less then a minutes the truck shut itself down. I drifted down the hill and tried to start it. There was no response. I called the dealer and had it towed. They requested all receipts for oil changes and ordered a new engine. They had said that thier mechanic put a breaker bar on it and couldn't move the engine. It had seized. When the new engine arrived a week later the mechanic went out to pull it in to swap engines. He forgot and tried to start it and it started right up. They called me and told me to pick it up that there was nothing wrong with it. At 52000 miles my engine began knocking. I took it to the dealership garage. Before even touching the vehicle the garage requisted all oil change receipts. Which I supplied to them. After removing the oil pan the service manager informed me that there were pieces of bearings in the oil pan and that the engine had to be replaced for "around" $5200. He then stated that my extended warranty would not cover it due to sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. He believed the oil to be changed "incorrectly".
Vehicle miss misfire dand stallled while driving at any speed.
When going from reverse to drive, at times engine idles rough and rpm's drop to about 350-400 rpm. Approximately 75% of the time it happens the engine quits. The other 25% of the time it happens the rpm's increase after a short period of time (20seconds to 1 minute) and if still in gear the truck will lurch forward when rpms increase. Pressing the accelerator to increase rpm's does not affect rpm's when engine is stumbling and truck will not move. Dealer has been notified, known problem with engine programming. Problem has existed since truck was new.

When the truck is started and put into drive it hesitates then shifts really hard. Also when the truck is started and allowed to warm up for around three minutes it dies when it is put in reverse. When it does this none of the lights on the instrument panel come on. The truck just dies. I have had the truck into the dealership four times now. The first time I took it in, the dealership told me that they couldn't get the problem to replicate and told me to bring it back when it got worse. I am now on my forth attempt to get the problem fixed and they are continuing to tell me that they can't get the problem to replicate. So I went to the dealership and replicated the problem for them. That was on 10-27-03. It is now 11-06-03 and they called me today to tell me that they still can't get the truck to replicate. But they have hooked up a "CO-pilot" which will read the trucks computer and hopefully catch the problem. I am having a really hard time believing that they can't replicate the problem. I have had the truck for three months now and the damn thing has died every single time I have put it in reverse. I am positive that I am being bent over. I know that I will never buy another Chrysler again.
Blower motor first inoperable at 7566 miles. Currently in for service for the 12th time for this problem. I live in minnesota - when motor goes out I cannot defog or defrost windows. Additional problems possibly related include: headlight accessory panel going out, hvac control lights going out, door alarm malfunctioning, and cigarette lighter inoperable. Current mileage is 44,xxx miles. Blower motor problem is at times intermittent with longest time between complete failures being ten months. Dealer has tried replacing blower motor, relay, fuses, wiring harness, duct work, etc.
The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Dakota quad cab. Whenever the brake pedal was applied, the brakes would pulsate, overheat, and lock up. The stopping distance would also increase. The dealer stated that wet conditions and high speed braking caused the rotors to warp. In addition, the vehicle idles high and roughly when approaching a stop sign or traffic light. When accelerating from a stop or merging into traffic, the vehicle would idle roughly. There was no throttle response for approximately 10 to 20 seconds, but then the vehicle would surge forward. The vehicle has been taken to a dealer approximately five times for these issues, but the failures still persist. All the sensors were replaced, but the failure is becoming worse. The dealer replaced the front rotors three times and the contact replaced them four times. The current mileage was 132,655 and failure mileage was 5,000. Updated 11/06/08. The rotors and brakes were replaced several times. The consumer was told the vehicle had a faulty master cylinder that was not letting the rear brakes ever work. The air conditioner was built to drain into the front passenger floor. The computer in the vehicle would not accept updates. The intermediate shaft was replaced. The wiper motor was replaced. Updated 11/06/08.
