-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Dakota. The contact started the ignition and the steering wheel would not turn. The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic for inspection. The technician stated the spring inside of the serpentine tensioner broke causing the belt to slip out of position. The vehicle was repaired at the cost of $161. The manufacturer was notified which they informed that the service repair was not covered under warranty because the vehicle was not repaired at an authorized dealer and the owner would be responsible for the repair expense. 2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1994 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Front left door snapped off. I can't open the drivers door from the inside. Also, both seat belts snapped, the air and heat doesn't work, the brakes locked up, which affected the steering. The transmission was replaced three timed, the vehicle would loose power and the engine would die. The catalytic converter rattled. There was a rough idle and then the vehicle would stall. The cruise control was inoperative, the tires wore out prematurely. Also, I had difficulty getting the vehicle out of park. The idler arm is in the process of breaking, the ignition broke after the keys became stuck, the fuel pump failed and the bearing and bushing needs to be replaced.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

We bought a new 2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab v-6 from magnussens in aburn California. When parking from our return trip 200 miles away we noticed a noise, as if the tires were rubbing. Made an appointment with the Dodge dealership in our area for July 19th. They inspected the truck and said that the serpentine belt and tensioner would have to be replaced. This, if not fixed could cause lose of power steering, ac etc. As stated in the owners manually. However, they could not perform the work until they called Chrysler corp and get authorization. This took 1 week. I called magnussens of auburn to let them know. Did not get a follow up. Didn't even get the report card on the business the were so anxious for us to get and fill out regarding there service. Sport Chrysler repaired the truck. Also at this time the brake lines were adjusted. The brake hoses were extremely tight, this could cause the brake lines to rupture. See other complaint regarding rotors, and suspension, which magnussens auburn ( brian bk) said we caused in the 300 miles we drove the truck. Wc.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 07/02/2003

During heavy rain, or in a car-wash, or running through too large of a puddle of water, the serpentine belt begins slipping an excessive amount. It will slip enough to cause the gauge that is showing the charge level to drop noticeably, and it will sometimes drop to the point of no longer showing charging at all. At this point the check engine light is also displayed, and it is now necessary to turn the ignition off and restart the truck to reset the gauge and light and have it begin displaying properly again. During a heavy downpour of rain, this problem occurred again as I was going around a curve and the power steering failed. This is obviously due to the fact that the power steering pump is driven by this belt. Had there been another vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic, I would have had an accident that I could not have prevented due to this failure. I am not satisfied with the answer that there is nothing that can be done to correct this problem. This is a truck, and it should be able to handle some water. If this problem truly exists in all trucks like mine, then it is only a matter of time before someone has a serious accident and files a lawsuit against Dodge, or even a class-action suit if enough people are really affected by the same problem. Had I been in an accident when the power steering failed on my truck, Im certain that Dodge would have been held liable for both my damages and whomever I had hit. The problem might be resolved by replacing all the pulleys with wider ones and then a wider serpentine belt , or it might be resolved by adding some type of splash guard, but that would probably not resolve the water coming through the grill. One of my employees has the new hemi Dodge truck, and his belt is slightly wider, and he does not have this particular problem.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

2002 Dodge Dakota quad cab w/ 5. 9 liter engine. My truck suffers from a shaky idle, very prevalent when releasing the brake and rolling. Is worse at cold start up. I suspect ignition system= location of coil may be the cause due to being so close to the tensioner pulley or a out-of balance harmonic balancer.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1997 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/25/1997

52000 miles and I have replaced these items: belt tensioner, a/c compressor, 3 sets of front tires (the tires are wearing on the outside edge-the truck has been aligned each time the tires were replaced), 2 sets of rotors, 2 brake calipers, 4 sets of brake pads, the steering knuckle that broke into three (3) pieces while the truck was going 65 mph, and now I have to take it to a transmission shop because the truck jumps from drive to neutral while the truck is in motion. All of these repair cost have been paid by myself. Dealer said there has been no other complaints about the Dodge Dakota I find that hard to believe. ( dot number: tire size: lt21575r15 ).

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1997 Dodge Dakota

The vehicle's fan belt squealed the day I drove it off of the showroom floor. It has been for repairs to the belt six times it is clos to the end of the warranty and Chrysler refuses to commit to continued repair until the problem is solved. The belt is a concern for me because if it fails while I am called to the hospital in the middle of the night, I could be stranded in a very bad neighborhood and could be dealt great bodily harm or death if the indiviual needs drug money desperately!! I also do not feel the vehicle is a reliable form of transportation. The first two times it was in the dealer, they repalced clutch parts, the third time they claimed there was nothing wrong. The fourth time they took my suggestion and sprayed the belt with water and it squealed. They replaced the belt. The fifth time, it was squealing all of the time. They replaced the belt and the belt idler. The sixth time, another dealer adjusted the idler and reassembled with the same belt. That was today. Tonight, the belt squealed at home when I put water on the belt. The michigan attorney general's office is where I got to this site. I just want to go ahead with the michigan lemon law at this point. *akcould you offer any suggestions? thank you. Beth davis.
