Dodge Dakota owners have reported 4 problems related to water pump (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota v6 3. 9l truck. I just replaced the water pump and with that, water has been coming down into my floor of passenger side of truck from heater core. This cause my main windshield window to clog up causing my inability to see out of windshield. I've now learned that many Dodge Dakota truck owners have been replacing their heater core and Dodge has not made recall to this epidemic. The design of this device is troubling. Plastic will never suffice real common sense to make and input parts on a vehicle that will render appropriate activity. Can something be done about this. Consumers are losing big money because of one's stupid design with Dodge very much well aware of this issue.

We had a tune-up and plug change 6/27/08, a month later 7/21/08 the engine started making a tapping noise. Pulled over, lifted hood and found an oil fill cone stuck in the oil fill and the oil cap stuck up under the side wall. The dealership found that the rocker arm had come off, reinstalled the rocker arm and did an oil change at no charge to us. 4/23/09 the check engine light came on, code p0300 and we paid to replace the #6 rocker arm. 7/13/09 the check engine light came on again p0300. Dealership added treatment and decarboned the engine. On 8/2/09 the check engine light came on again p0300. Tried to drive the vehicle to the dealership 8/3/09 and the oil pressure dropped off to zero. We called dealership & advised of problem, that we did not want to drive it in and would have the vehicle towed. Vehicle towed to dealership on 8/5/09. Dealership didn't even look at the truck until 8/10/09. They replaced the head gasket, did a valve job, replaced the oil switch, thermostat and water pump. The truck was picked up from the dealership on 8/18/09. On 8/22/09 when started the truck made the tapping noise again. On 8/24/09, I notified the dealership of the noise and was told to it should resolve itself and bring it in only if it makes the noise again. On 8/31/09 the truck made the tapping noise again on start up. Vehicle taken back to dealership on 9/1, told 9/3 that another rocker arm was going bad. The dealership said they would fix but when asked what was causing the rocker arms to keep coming off was due to engine sludge. Since I could not document every single oil change (at least half done by owner) the dealership could attest to the maintenance of the vehicle.
Purchase 02 Dodge Dakota report brakes 3 time Dodge found now problems . Brakes, crash no injuries, also @40k miles intake leak, water pump @36 Dodge will not help with any repair cost they say its out side of warranty.
I bought a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4wd a month ago. I have had to replace the lower ball joints, catalytic converter, timing chain, water pump and now the transfer case has gone bad. The truck only has 55000 miles on it. I have only made one payment on the truck and have paid the repair shop over $1500 in repair costs. They only time that I have got to drive the truck is to the repair shop except when I bought it. This is ridiculous, a truck with low miles like this should not have this many problems. The dealer said that they would look at it this time put they couldn't make any promises. We paid for everything else to get fixed and I refuse to pay for anything else. I paid $10,000 for a truck that I can't even drive, I'm actually scared to drive it because who knows what will happen next. Apparently Dodges are pieces of crap to put it politely.
