Battery light came on on Friday night. Started my car Saturday morning to leave and started smelling an awful smell so shut my car off. I replaced my battery in the same spot my car sat (in my driveway). My hood was up still and the alternator was burning and smoking. I shut the car off. On Sunday replaced the alternator. Thought all was well. Drove the car 5 miles down the road and the battery light came back on. I pulled over at the local store and my car would not start again. Took the new alternator out and took it down to where I bought it to have it tested. It tested good. I replaced it anyways. Put that alternator in. Started car. Battery still not charging with new alternator in. Lights, windshield wipers and all codes started going crazy in the car. Then car died again. Monday morning, replaced the brand new battery again. Not charging. Took car to shop for diagnosis. Ecm/pcm bad and needs replaced. Alternator fried the ecm/pcm. While doing research found recall t36. My VIN does not fall under this recall. My car is the same years and model but my VIN is not. My alternator almost started on fire ( which they do not smoke and short things out) typically unless they have issues which obviously the manifacture knows about. I believe that my car should fall under this recall and Dodge and the recall company does not want to help or help me understand why it wouldnt. I understand they are just doing their job. Please help me get my VIN on this recall as my battery, alternator and ecm/pcm all have and need to be replaced due to the alternator shorting out and would have started on fire if my hood would not have been up and me walking in front of my car and seeing the smoke coming from the alternator. Dodge is waiting for the part to come in now to replace the ecm. Thanks for your time.

Durango stalled in middle of intersection. Unable to start and vehicle was towed to local mechanic. Mechanic stated the issues involves the alternator and it has affected the battery and we are still waiting to see if the pcm was affected. Mechanic advised me that he worked on the same year Chrysler and had the same exact issue, but the alternator in that model was recalled. I have seen several other alternator issues similar to mine when searching the internet and am wondering why haven't these alternators been recalled if another vehicle made by Chrysler has a recall but the Durango does not. Vehicle was driving at low speeds up to an intersection and once stopped, it shut off. Originally thought it was the auto start/stop, but engine did not engage and power steering was also out. Unable to start there after.
My wife was driving her 2012 Durango and the battery light came on and blind spot warning was going off. The engine started making a loud noise. She was 2 miles from home, so I told her to drive home and take my truck. When I got home I investigated the issue. Within 1 minute of me idling the engine to listen for where noise the alternator started smoking and internal were glowing red.

While my wife was driving the Durango the battery light came on. Soon after the battery light came on everything shut off. Weren't able to start it or do anything. Checked to see if my vehicle was one with an alternator recall and it isnt. Replaced the alternator twice a new battery and still can't drive the vehicle because the put the voltage regulator in the pcm and I guess when it all shut down on my wife it messed that up. She was in motion while the light came on and was driving on a city street but luckily she wasn't far from home.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle start to lose power causing several electrical issues. The contact believed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the check engine light and battery light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to east hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram srt (2300 northern blvd, greenvale, NY 11548) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the alternator and battery were replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that recalls were VIN specific. The failure mileage was approximately 165,400.
My vehicle had a alternator recall recall date was issued on July 10, 2017 I had my local Dodge dealer change the defective alternator between April and August of 2018. My vehicle was in storage for about 7 months. My battery light kept coming on on 10/25/ 2020 I had the battery and alternator tested and alternator showed was charging at 11. 13v which is under the acceptable limit. I believe this should be a recall the alternator is only 2 years old nothing aftermarket is installed in vehicle to effect charging system.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the check engine and battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle began to lose power. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot but was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle and while inspecting under the hood noticed that the alternator had caught on fire. The contact called the fire and police department but the fire extinguished on its own before fire marshals arrived on scene. A police/fire department report was filed. The contact was informed that if she would have continued driving, the entire vehicle would have caught on flames. The vehicle was towed to local dealer ralph sellers Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (14215 airline hwy, gonzales, la 70737 (225) 529-9160) where it was diagnosed with needing the alternator replaced due to an internal shortage. The vehicle was repaired however, upon investigation the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). The VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,923.
While driving my 2016 Dodge Durango limited, my check engine light came on, then the (abs) light came on and then my battery light came on. Every light on the dash and system warning was lit up. Then they started flickering and then the vehicle died right in the middle of a busy city road during peak traffic. I have replaced the batteries thinking that may have something to do with it. I have had the alternator checked and it is good. I had to get it towed to my house and has been sitting ever sense with no power. I don't know what the issue is, but for a car to die in the middle of the road during peak traffic is completely unsafe and unacceptable. Plus I had only had the car for 2 months.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that when idle at a red light, then, pressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle's power suddenly shut completely off the vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced, as well as, pcm. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue who informed the contact that their vehicle was not included in any recall. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000. Gl.
On August 22, 2020 while driving to and from a restaurant my car components notified me of a battery issue with the red light on. I then kept driving to park the car and while the car was parked it started to stall unusually but the engine car did not stop completely. Then there was heat coming in from the air condition vents with a rubbery smell then I had to turn the car off. I did not want to open the hood because there was smoke coming out of the engine. I was afraid opening the hood might have caused a fire feeding oxygen to the engine. I called usaa roadside assistance and provided me with a wrecker with assumed name sally's towing service. The wrecker was unable to jump start the car and movie it neutrally. He had to forcibly pull the car with the tires locked onto the flat bed. We took it to our mechanic at USA motors. Our mechanic inspected it and found a rare occurrence in which the alternator was overcharging the battery causing the battery and the power train control module to melt thus causing the smoke and foul odor and the car left with no power or control.
I had just made it through an intersection and was a few miles from home. Something smelled a little "hot" even though I didn't have the radio, heat or any extra controls. Suddenly, all of the lights on the dash began flashing at me and I began losing power of the vehicle. I couldn't even put my windows up. I pulled to the side as fast as I could before losing all power, including my blinkers to warn other cars. I had to call aaa for a tow and they had to use a bypass to get the car in neutral to even tow it. They attempted to charge the car and the charging pack got extremely hot as if it was going to catch fire to the point he had to disconnect it. Meanwhile, a local fire department crew was returning to their station with an ambulance and stopped to help slow down traffic on the busy road. One of the fireman noticed sparks coming from the alternator area. That's when everything was disconnected and towed for repairs. Fast forward, the alternator and battery were replaced and the vehicle is still not functioning. The mechanic has not been able to get the car running again.
Alternator failure.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that after stopping the vehicle the warning message displayed indicating a failure with the battery and smoke was present coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact indicated the hood of the vehicle became extremely hot to the touch during the incident and all electronics to the vehicle seized to operate. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the battery and alternator was faulty and needed to be replaced. The battery and alternator were replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA recall campaign number 14v634000(electrical system). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 104,000. Jft.
I was traveling at a speed of 55 braking to make a right turn and I experienced sudden alternator failure, the battery light came up on dash followed by radio shutting off then all the light came on as a loss of power and vechile stalling, wasn't able to start the car or jump it off drained my battery, with smoke and a smell as if wire was burning had to have it towed cause wasn't drivable and wouldn't go in gear, contacted fca was told to take it to nearest dealership for repairs under t36 recall once repairs were donewas told that my VIN isnt in the recall but experienced the same as t36 recall alternator shorting out and failure now stuck with repair bills as well as 2 towe bills.
My car stalled on me in the middle of an intersection. I almost got hit by an 18 wheeler. It would not move, all kinds of things started going off on the dash and codes . We had to pull the gear shift release to get it in n to push it out of the road. It lost all power and wouldn't even start had to jump it off and replaced the batteries still nothing, alternator and everything else tested good. No idea what's going on and the dealership has been no help! I haven't even had this car for 30 days yet. I have video I can send of what it's doing.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. The contact stated they had their vehicle repaired for a recall regarding the alternator (contact was unable to verify recall number), however, they were informed that the ecm board was faulty due to the damage on the voltage regulator which was caused by the failure indicaticated with the alternator mentioned in the recall. The contact stated that the following day while the contact's wife was driving pulling out of the parking lot the vehicle's electrical system began to show signs of low battery. The contact stated their wife stated shortly after the vehicle shut off due to a dead battery. The vehicle was towed to the dealership (barbera autoland located at 7810 roosevelt blvd, philadelphia, PA 19152 phone number: 215-309-8670) who diagnosed that the ecm board failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case number: 68047300. The manufacturer contacted the dealer who stated that the recall part was replaced and the ecm board was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. Gl.
Wife drove vehicle with no issue, and after arriving home - with 3 children in the vehicle; while stationary (in park) & vehicle running (while kids finishing watching a video), she heard a 'terrible squeeling sound'; she sequentially closed sunroof, turned off a/c, and lowered sound level of stereo - sound persisted. She turned car off, then back on - smoke began to bellow out of the engine compartment. A fire extinguisher was discharged through grill area by a family member (who is a certified emt/fire fighter, if that matters), who did not want to open the hood. I arrived ~15 minutes later, and opened the hood and the alternator was clearly smoking, and the serpentine belt was discolored on the alternator pulley. Called auto service for tow. When wrecker arrived, I attempted to put car in neutral, but no actuation of the shifter would work - as no power; tow service had to use the bypass. Vehicle taken to dealership. I did some cursory research on this phenomenon, found an outstanding recall for this issue (t36); I called following day to make recall claim. Fca "special investigator" did an investigation on 9/10, I have not heard from them - and I have called no fewer than 4 times inquiring. Dealership service manager informed me late yesterday he received approval to perform work on the two (2) outstanding recalls on vehicle, but not covering damage due to the fire - at least that is what was relayed to me.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. The vehicle lost motive power while driving and stalled the driver was concerned about her safety the contact was concerned that the alternator may have failed while driving at approximately 70 mph, without warning the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. Garber Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram located at 5330 bay rd, saginaw, mi 48604, (989)399-8550, was contacted and an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed but was still pending. The contact stated that the failure was experienced once before. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 119,880. Ah.
On 8/24/19 the alternator failed while driving (in motion!!) and the car stopped in the middle of the road shortly after the battery light came on. The battery had just been replaced new that same day. We could not move the car or restart the vehicle to move it and just purchased used on the 21 August 2019, issue that you can not get the car into neutral to move the car. Or that there is no a secondary power source so that if the power fails you can still operate the gears and move the car out of the way. The care makes a clanking noise like if the gears were not moving and the car jolted forward and just stopped. Really? then couldn't move it thank god it didn't happen on the freeway. Saw that there is a recall on this Durango for the alternator suddenly failing that exactly what happen but there is no record of that being fixed or being an issue on this model why?.

Car alert low voltage came on and then car would not start. When jumping the car, the car would turn off when cables came off. Was told alternator is bad. I googled and found out their was a recall for alternators but not my 2014 model. I believe mine should have been included because the description fits my issue as well and the vehicle is the same year, make and model. Dealership would not honor recall when should the info. On line.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While backing out of a parking spot, the vehicle seized and the battery warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the battery and alternator were replaced, but the battery continued to fail. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 92,000.
In reference to recall t36 on 2011-2014 Dodge Durango for alternator malfunction. My vehicle is at dealership for repairs and the total is 1296. 19 and the Chrysler corp does not want to paid for the repairs because my VIN is not under that recall but my vehicle is the same make and model of the recall. Eariler complaint on 7/8/19.
The battery and alternator are brand new, but the battery keeps getting empty either the alternator that mopar replace is bad, or the voltage regulator doesn't work.
The battery light came on while driving 45 mph. Before I was at a place to get off of the highway (two miles) the vehicle lost all power and completely shut off. So there I sat in the middle of the highway waiting on a tow truck. The 220 amp alternator had the faulty diode like the ones that have been recalled. The diode failed and caused a dead short. The alternator short ruined the battery and the pcm. This is the t36 recall to a t but Dodge says my VIN number shows it's not recalled. The parts and labor were 1411. 88. That's not including the tow service bill or the rental car that I had to use. This is ridiculous that Chrysler is being allowed to rip people off knowing full well its their worthless parts at the root of it all. No government agency should sit by and be a spectator as Chrysler robs thousands and thousands of people at over 1000 each. Somebody needs to take responsibility for their mistake and quit sticking it to the people who were foolish enough to buy this garbage.
Vehicle battery light came on while driving. Two miles later shut off with no control over steering or braking. Vehicle had a faulty alternator which was not covered by the t36 recall. Alternator overheated, ruined the battery and pcm. The alternator was sending reverse polarity when trying to jump start. This is a known issue with the model years. It should be covered in recall and isnt. This part has ruined my whole monthly budget and is Chrysler's fault.
Car stalls out. Noticed there were recalls for alternator but doesnt come up on your website. Do recalls expire. Wife was driving on residential street when car stalled. She was able to get it started. Happened twice in last month.
Tl- the contact owns a 2018 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and making a right turn the vehicle would not immediately turn and would continue to drive straight. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer hendrick Dodge(81 mackenan dr. Cary nc) who re-calibrated the steering but the failure would continue to occur intermittently. Also while operating the vehicle the voltage meter would continuously fluctuate. The alternator, battery and battery terminals were replaced but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000. Jft.

T36 recall for the alternator directly impacts the performance of the powertrain computer model and requires replacement.
I purchased my Dodge Durango brand new in 2014 and never had an issue with it. It is currently in great condition except that I recently took it in for an oil change on 3/9/19. It sat in my driveway until my wife drove it to work the following Monday morning. On her way home from work she started to smell an overwhelming burning electrical smell. I drove it back into the dealership where the oil change took place and they outright lied to me telling me it was a plastic bag burning on the catalytic converter. They could not prove it when I asked them to show me. I scheduled an appointment with another dealership for this Tuesday. So I did some research to see if anyone has had the issue and the internet is full of these vehicles having the same problem. I noticed that in a fe instances the issue was dud to a recall on the alternator. When I entered my VIN number in the NHTSA site, it does not come up as a vehicle that needs the recall completed. Why would my 2014 Dodge Durango be part of that recall? VIN 1c4rdjag2ec438733 and also if this is not the issue why would I and so many others have the issue.
About a week ago my alternator and battery had to be replaced, a day or two after I had them replaced I was pulling out onto a state road and I heard something got crunched, so I stopped and got out ans looked and nothing. Got back in rhe car and put it in drive and I looked down at my dash and heart something trying to engage and on mh dash my svc 4wd light started flashing. . Im not sure how ro fix it or what to do, it does it quite frequently. I opened the trunk and heard it trying to engage. Stopped at a stop light, I can hear it trying to engage to 4 wd. I have been looking into thia and I see several consumers have had the same issues. It seems Dodge should beable to come up with a permanent fix, but no recalls yet. . . My main concern is, what happens if im doing 80 mps on the freeway and it tries to engage into 4low?? thank you for your time!!.

T36 recall. Driving down a busy street, battery light illuminated for a second, wipers stopped working, car immediately shut off. Key stuck in ignition. Went to try and have care jump started, did not work. Felt cables from battery and alternator both hot. Towed to dealership. Dealership diagnosed stating recall for alternator, pcm fried. Dealership is stating not related. Called fca group who stated dealer would have to call them. Dealer states not related, no outcome. Having vehicle towed away as dealer is quoting me $1100. 00 for repairs to pcm. During fault, intersection was very busy main streets, infant in car seat cars 1 car was close to hitting vehicle. Very unsafe. Unable to put car in gear, had to have police behind car as hazards would not work. Power to vehicle not on.
