3 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/24/2011

Needing more info on just what does the gas cap do. So far I've had my engine light come on, and was told it was because the gas cap wasn't tightened. My latest discovery, I got in my vehicle, turned on the ignition, and the car eventually died, with no further turnover. I got out of the vehicle, thought of checking the gas cap, made a few turns, and got back into my vehicle, and, it turned over without difficulty. What other features does this item have that I should be aware of?.

4 Ignition problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

Driving in my neighborhood at 35 mph and the engine turned off completely! I coasted to a full stop, turned off the ignition. . . Waited 10 seconds and then turned the ignition back on and drove off. Vehicle also feels very sluggish especialy driving over 55 mph. You must really push the pedal down to accelerate. Engine shutting off is soooo dangerous. God for bid this will happen when im driving with my children in the car while on the freeway!!!.

5 Ignition problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I have a 2000 Durango 5. 9 that will shut off while driving. No codes are stored, and the dash reads "no bus". It has done this several times over the past few months and will always restart after a few minutes. This last time it wouldn't restart and we had it towed home and it started up after that just fine. I have replaced most of the ignition system and pulled the fuel pump to no avail. It is my wife's car and she and I both can't trust it any more with the safety of my wife and children. There are multiple posts and complaints online about this problem but no single "fix", and nothing official from Dodge addressing this very serious safety issue.

6 Ignition problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

I own a 2000 Dodge Durango slt 4wd. The vehicle shuts off when the outdoor temperature exceeds 75 degrees. I have traced the issue to the pcm of the vehicle, which becomes so hot that you cannot touch its metal housing with your hands. The pcm is located in the engine compartment, bolted above the passenger front tire. The pcm has three wire harnesses attached to it, and once the pcm heats up, a "kill" switch is triggered and the vehicle shuts off. Shortly after, the odometer reads "no bus" and the only way to reset the pcm is to leave the ignition key in the "on" position, pull the pcm wire harness that is closest to the passenger compartment, re-seat the harness and hope that you hear a "clicking" sound. The vehicle normally re-starts, but will again turn off at intermittent times. On a typical day of , I will perform this process several times in my 22-mile round-trip to work. Many people have been experiencing the same events, thus causing nightmares for those that do not have a safe pull-off from roads, or those that are in intersections or near crosswalks, since the engine shuts down sporadically.

7 Ignition problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

2001 Dodge Durango with recall for the ignition/park interlock system. In 2008 the consumer scheduled an appointment to have the recall performed regarding the ignition/park interlock system. On February 16, 2010, the ignition malfunctioned. The key would not go completely in the ignition, therefore, he was unable to start or move the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. The consumer was then informed that the ignition tumbler could not be repaired because one of the metal bars in the tumbler had jammed in the locked position and that a new tumbler was needed. The consumer was certain that the malfunction of the tumbler was caused by the repair to the ignition/park interlock system.

8 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/08/2009

Car sometimes starts without electrical response: turn the ignition on and engine starts but no electricity. Driving on interstate 95 and all electricity to all panels and power steering shuts off. This happens often and results in having to coast to stop on the side of the interstate with little control of the vehicle. I have to restart engine several times before electrical response is restored. A tumbler kit was installed under warranty (service at pritchard Dodge in ithaca, NY in April of 2005) to reset electrical circuit and it helped but never fixed the problem, but now problem is back and getting worse. I do not have the luxury to buy another car so I have used it, but now is too dangerous.

9 Ignition problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/19/2009

I have a 2001 Durango that has key/ignition problems sometimes when I put the key in it will not turn the ignition. I thought maybe it was the key so I went to the dealer to order a new key. The service adviser told me that they had a lot of problems with that and to put the key in the ignition and pop it as hard as I could and the key would go in. That did work. But, is this causing any other problems?.

10 Ignition problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/16/2009

Key will not turn when put in ignition; after a google search found many Dodge vehicles have this problem. Per the auto forums - put key in ignition and tapped key on right hand side while in ignition (I guess to push key in further) and then the key would work to start Durango. Have to do this every time.

11 Ignition problem of the 2008 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/21/2008

Failure to repair vehicle/ safety recall notice g28 ignition/park shift interlock defective / phoned dealer, said they would have to order part and get back to me , never called back, I re-called, said part wasn't in and later emailed, no response, been over two months -.

12 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/12/2008

Stalling while turning right.

13 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

My 2004 Dodge Durango has 55,000 miles on it. Both keyless entry fobs quit working. The only way to unlock my truck is manually, via turning the key in the door. Every time you do that, the alarm goes off. I researched this online, to find out that a lot of people have the same problem, even cars still under factory warranty. (those under warranty, said Dodge wouldn't fix them). This is completely unacceptable. There's no reason Dodge can't have a recall and fix this key issue. I just got off the phone with Dodge "customer relations" and got nowhere. No help, no information on how to fix it, and certainly no recall.

14 Ignition problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

During times of low temperatures (below 40 degrees) the following occurs intermittently. The radio controls on the steering wheel do not work properly, the radio volume spontaneously goes down, the headlights and dash lights flash off and on, the windshield wipers will come on, the indicator lights for the airbag indicate the airbag is not activated. I am sure there are more glitches; however these are the ones that stand out. This morning, however, the cruise control would not stop accelerating the vehicle. The outside temperature is approximately 22 degrees. I set the cruise for 75, when I reviewed the speed, the vehicle had accelerated to 95 and the cruise would not shut off either by the cruise control controls or by braking. In fact the brakes had difficulty slowing the vehicle down to 75 and when released the vehicle would again accelerate. When placed into neutral, the vehicle continued revving and when placed in drive it again accelerated. When I was finally able to slow the vehicle by placing it in neutral and continue to push hard on the brakes, I maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. It then would not re-start. The ignition wouldn't turn over for approximately 5 minutes. Once restarted the vehicle appears to be working fine. I reported this to the dealer this morning. They were already aware of the previous irregularities and advised they would be talking to the support center today. They have already replaced the clock spring in the vehicle and that did not correct the problem. They have advised that they are aware there is a problem but they do not know how to fix it.

15 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the cd player does not work and there is a continuous clicking sound when the key is removed from the ignition. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice. The vehicle is included in recall number g07 and the repair work was performed; however, the failure still persists. The current mileage was 39,000 and failure mileage was 37,000.

18 Ignition problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/06/2005

Vehicle kept flooding out and would not start over a month period in October of 2005. Taken to a garage to be fixed. The computer showed no problem. After getting it started vehicle would be taken home and same problem repeated itself. After 3 trip to garage for same problem the vehicles pcm(engine control computer) has been replaced. Dealer advised that vehicle was 7000 miles over the 80000 mile warranty on that particular part. This vehicle has had problem after problem. From exhaust problems to timing chain assemblers failure to power door locks going out. I can not believe that chrylser was not aware of some of the problems in the 200 Dodge Durango.

19 Ignition problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

Vehicle was in gear and either slowing to a stop or already stopped. The engine rpm's dropped below 500 and then recovered very briefly (~1 second) before stalling. The engine was idling very rough during the drop/recovery phase before stalling. This incident occurred 5 times within a 1 hour period.

20 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/19/2005

Turned key in ignition and the dashboard lit up. There were even lights on the dashboard that I did not recognize. Nothing worked: no ac, no gas gauge, no electric windows, no headlights (or any other lights), no speedometer, no windshield wipers. Dropped Durango off for service 2 days later, it sat in our driveway undriveable for those two days. Chrysler reset a computer switch and informed us that the fix was temporary to get us through the weekend, for a Monday appointment for service. Dropped off the Durango on 7/24/05 and today, 8/8/05 it is still in the shop. They had to remove a part of the computer and send it off to the manufacturer to be repaired/reset. We were told a week ago that the manufacturer doesn't have the part needed for the repair, because this has never happened before, and that it would be another week before the Durango is fixed. At that time, we requested a loaner vehicle and was approved by Chrysler for a loaner for a 10 day period. Today is day number 7, and Chrysler is predicting that the part may be delivered to them in the next few days, so maybe we'll have the vehicle prior to the weekend. At this the vehicle has been undriveable for 15 days. . . . I'm looking into the va lemon law, and if the problem persists, may pursue that. If anyone else has had this problem we'd like to know about it.

21 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/08/2005

Engine stalled while at low speed on a small incline approaching a stop sign.

22 Ignition problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/11/2005

My husband & I purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango with a hemi about a month ago. About 2 weeks ago (may 11, 2005), I put the Durango in reverse (I was in a stop position), and the engine just died out. I put it in park and started the engine again. I drove to my mom's to pick her up. Again I was in a stop position, put the Durango in reverse, and the engine died out again. After I dropped off my mom, I immediately took the Durango to the dealer. They kept it there and tested it for several hours. Nothing happened. They could not verify my complaint. They did tell me, however, that the computer needed to be re-programed. This past Saturday, my husband & I drove the Durango to kona for the day. While driving up a ramp at one of the hotels, the engine died out again! first thing Monday morning (5/23/2005), I called the dealer's service dept. And explained what had happened. (I spoke to sherri) they checked with their service manager, who along with the mechanic, called star. They told them to insall a "CO-pilot". They (the manager, service advisor and the mechanic, along with myself) do not think that makes any sense. The Durango just dies out, and the CO-pilot would only make sense if myself or my husband had the time to press the button before the truck died out. In this case, the truck just dies out, so we don't have the time to press the button first. I'm afraid that the truck will die out while driving and will cause an accident.

23 Ignition problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/08/2005

Vehicle stalling.

24 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/15/2005

The consumer stated at any given time no matter if driving for days or hours sometimes the vehicle won't start, it acted as if it was out of gas. It wouldn't start three times, the fourth time it did start like it wasn't getting enough gas. Everything was dead, the consumer waited a few minutes and it started without ant problem, haven't had a problem since then. Two months ago it started happening. No problem since then, and it was worse this time than the first time. Dealer told him to turn key 1/2 way and wait about a few seconds, then start the motor.

25 Ignition problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

26 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact heard a clicking noise when he turned the key in the ignition. The dealer previously performed electrical repairs on the vehicle, but the failure still occurred. The current mileage was 38,000 and failure mileage was 4,000.

27 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/05/2004

My 2004 Dodge Durango (VIN 1d8hb58d84f166952) has had an intermittent electrical distribution failure. First incident occured 4 months after purchase. It is now 14 months since purchase, the vehicle has been in for repairs 7 times, and the cause of casualty remains undetermined. This is largely in part due to daimler Chrysler's inattention to maintenance procedures. They attempt to repair the symptom rather than the cause. The electrical distribution shortcoming intermittently impacts the a/c, radio, console lights, and tody. . . The airbags. Pending the turn of the ignition key determines which system is impacted. One only needs to turn off the car and restart it to move the "gremlin" to a different system. Also, the mechanic at greenbrier Dodge claimed this to be a new electrical system that operates off of buses. More importantly, he claimed that daimler Chrysler has seen occurances similar to that of my own before. This is a fire hazard waiting to happen. Or, if in a crash, will my air bag work? could I be driving down the highway and my console lights go out, hiding the status of my engine (I. E. , oil low, etc)?.

Vehicle stalls periodically. It will not re-start right away. Sometimes it starts up after a minute or two, sometimes five minutes, sometimes after an hour or so. We had the vehicle diagnosed by edelen tire & service and twice by conway heaton Dodge in bardstown, ky. Conway heaton verified the problem on February 1, 2002. Neither service center could determine the root cause and fix the problem. I also contacted Chryslers customer service and got them involved (care # 9699040). They contacted conway heaton to help, but could not. I have a 3 year old vehicle which is unsafe because it stalls without notice. Chrysler and conway heaton tell me there is nothing they can do.
