Intermittent no start condition/start and shut off at any time which started after vehicle taken to dealer to complete trans cooler condenser/motor mounts/radio replacement. Can happen at cold start or after vehicle has been driven. This has happened 6 times in a course of almost 3 months. Vehicle taken to scott robinson Dodge in torrance, CA 3 times for this issue and they are unable to properly diagnose and repair. Had me replace battery and starter. Condition still exists. Dealer is playing guessing games with the repairs needed for my vehicle. I asked dealer to check fuses and wires to tipm. I believe my vehicle is being affected by the NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 and others which affected 2011-2013 Durangos. Other 2014 Durango owners have complained of a similar experience. A random no start/stall condition is very concerning since that increases my chances of a stall, crash and being stranded. Multiple times I have had my children in the car scared because the vehicle will not start. If the dealer is unable to diagnose and complete repairs, then who can?? I have young children and this is my only mode of transportation. I am without a vehicle and no loaner given by the dealer. If it weren't for covid, I'd really be out of luck with no other means of transportation. Chrysler needs review and expand the current recalls to include 2014 models or maybe a new issue needs to be identified and brought to light. Vehicle issue started 09/05/20 and has continued since. SUV taken to dealer 10/09/20, 10/21/20 & 11/04/20 for issue. They also advised on my 10/21/20 visit that my exhaust manifold bolts are broken which is causing a ticking noise at start up. This was never diagnosed at previous visits and noise has been there. I have attached a more comprehensive report.

While coming back from putting gas down the street, my alternator fail and began to smoke. The car then lost all power luckily on the street I lived in. I replaced the alternator and starter but still couldn't keep battery charging. Battery is about six months since I purchased it. Recall has been made but VIN number is not included even though the recall specifically states the 2012 Dodge Durango model.
Car has issues starting. Starter is cranking, no fuel to fire the car. Car has 1/2 tank of gas.

My vehicle stalls while driving in traffic on a city street. However, the vehicle starts right back while it's coming to a slow roll. I try to crank it will rolling to prevent an accident. I have had the vehicles battery, alternator, starter, and fuel system checked. The ignition switch was replaced in the vehicle because the vehicle push start button gets stuck and a new keypad was programmed for the vehicle. The vehicle stalls while in motion at any giving moment.
Car shuts off while driving. New alternator, new starter, new battery and the problem still occurs. Car shuts off completely, wheel tightens up. This is not when the car is idle, it's when the car is moving. Dangerous and deadly.
Battery light come on, shortly after dash board lights flickered, windshield wipers turnoff on by themselves, hazards also turned on, then radio and a/c turnoff, power steering was lost and the whole car died. Once car died, I could not start it, tried to jump it and it was dead, would not turnover. Later I was informed the alternator is under recall. When repaired by Dodge, I was told I needed a new battery and starter. I believe the root cause and all repairs should have been made by Dodge as they were all connected with same event.
We have taken my SUV in for this starter issue for almost as long as we have had it. It acts as though it is starting but wont turn over. We have to pop out the push to start button and manually turn the car off for it to stop. It does this multiple times in a row before starting. Finally after 4 or 5 visits for the issue, Dodge says its some fuel pump relay so they fixed that, but the problem returned. The car completely stalled one day while we were driving, and it stopped turning on. We lost all power, no power steering, and every light illuminated on the dash board. This happened as we were exiting the dallas north tollway. . . Luckily we were exiting! we were able to pull off the side of the road, we had the car towed to the dealership. This occurred in Nov/Dec 2017. Over a period of about 4-6 weeks, they replaced the pcm and cat converter (both) and alternator. Now 4. 5 months later the problem has returned with starter constantly turning over, its happened 2 days in a row now. We have to travel daily 20 miles each way down the i30 corridor in the dfw area . We are afraid that the car will just stall going down the freeway. All signs point to a tipm problem, but the dealership is unwilling to replace.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). The part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While driving approximately 10 mph, the alternator warning indicator illuminated. Some pedestrians noticed small flames under the hood of the vehicle. The contact turned off the vehicle and the pedestrians extinguished the flames with water. The contact obtained assistance to have the vehicle pushed to her home. The vehicle was later towed to the northtown Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram dealer (2020 niagara falls blvd, tonawanda, NY 14150; 716-692-7000) where it was diagnosed that the starter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle then showed a code indicating "misfire cylinder 4" while at the dealer. The contact received a call from the dealer stating that the failure (including the flames underneath the hood) recurred. The dealer extinguished the flames and diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer also informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and opened case number: 32565723; however, the matter had not been resolved or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,188. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Vehicle stationary, intermittently not starting when push button has been pressed, we can hear starter attempting to engage but will not start. Sometimes the starter continuously runs for about 10 seconds attempting to start the car and the only way to stop the starter, is you have to leave the vehicle and lock the car w/key fob. Has done this intermittently since July of 2017. The vehicle has had the fuel pump relay replaced due recall on 09/2015. The intermittent non starting issue has occurred a total of 12+ times. On two of the occurances the problems have been video taped. Had the vehicle to the dealership two different times and both times they state that they could not get the vehicle to duplicate the problem nor were there any codes in the system, therefore, they could not resolve the matter. When we tried to show them the videos they advised that they had no interest in viewing them. They also advised several times that without a duplication of the issue, that they could do nothing to resolve the issue. Dealership continues to maintain that we are the only ones that they know of that is having this particular issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter and pcm box failed. An unknown wire related to the pcm box burned and the starter and pcm box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,377.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and various indicators flickered on the instrument panel. The steering wheel locked up. The vehicle was pulled over and later towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 107,000.
I believe the totally integrated power module is the problem. It will not start sometimes and then will not stay running when it does. Cranks and dies, acts like starter just keeps turning over and over after hitting ignition button. We have had this problem for a few weeks and it keeps getting worse. Our vehicle year make and module fall within the time frame of a stated recall and the same issues in that recall are happening to our vehicle. It has happened in our driveway, rural and city streets. While at red lights or stalling while in motion or other stopping reasons. Please look into this, thank you matt l.
"takata recall"sometimes after the car has been driven long or short drives and turned off for a short period of time, when I go to start the engine the starter will grind/engine turns over but will not start this issue was suppose to be taken care of in the summer of 2015. Dealer had our car for over two months waiting on parts but the issue is starting to occur again!(electrical) also I find at different times the interior lights/gauge lights/indicator lights that are on and stay on for a few miles like there is a short in the electrical system. Note: I have never had a recall on the electrical problem.
I bought my 2012 Dodge Durango 3 weeks and it is not starting properly. I used the keyless remote entry and starter but the car will not start or sounds like the starter is stuck. I have to turn off the car and try again. It will normally take 4-5 tries just to get the car started and it depends if it will continue to run. I am not happy with this and noticed multiple people have the same problems.
Most times when I go to start the truck it will not start. If it does start it dies immediately. When I try to start it again, the starter seems to get stuck, so I turn the key off and have to try it again. Eventually it will start and run normal. Just this morning, I went to move the vehicle, and it had no power. Once I hooked up the jumper cables I could hear a humming noise, which I assume would be the fuel pump, as I have read many complaints online about it not turning off due to the tipm. After I started it and let it run for a while I shut it off and could still here the fuel pump. I should not have to pull the fuse so that my battery will not die due to a defective part. I just got this truck a little over 2 months ago and have had the starting problem since I've got it. Now I got this fuel pump issue. I should not have to pay for something that Chrysler is aware of and, at this point, has chose not to do anything about.
When try to start car. The starter hung up and wouldn't start. Starter kept turning over but would not start. Like vehicle was not getting any fuel to engine. Has done this 7 times since Dec 2014.
My 2012 Dodge Durango at approximate 45000 miles began to have problems starting. It will turn over and stall multiple times before starting. It will also turn the starter continually with out starting at all. Also it has had one incident to date of stalling while driving on highway. I was traveling at 65 miles per hour on turnpike when the car stalled for no known reason and I lost use of the gas pedal. After pulling to the side of highway I had to turn key off and restart to continue.
Vehicle engine would start with use of ignition button, then vehicle engine would shut off with out warning. At this time vehicle will not re-start with use of ignition button. Vehicle would just engage starter motor and not fire engine with use of ignition button. Starter would run on until button is pushed to engage the off position, with a no start condition. After several cycles of the ignition button vehicle engine will finally start and stay running. Problem is reoccurring often. This is absolutely unexceptable for any vehicle and the safety of its occupants. This can lead to loss off control of vehicle, possible collision and loss of life, at high speeds on the crowded interstates, or moderate speeds on small town streets.
I was told the totally integrated power module (tipm) was bad and needed to be replaced. Never heard of this part until my vehicle started acting up. It would just not start even though it was trying. I thought it was just a starter going bad or something small. Nope! I learned about tipm and the nearly $1,600 it cost to replace it. In speaking with the technician I found out that it could go completely out at anytime, and if it did, my vehicle would be dead in the water no matter what I was doing. Scary thought. Especially if you're driving down the freeway. So, needless to say, we don't really have a choice when this part goes out. What's sad is that the vehicle is only a few years old and has relatively low mileage. After getting off the phone with the technician I googled tipm and found all kinds of articles and learned that Chrysler has been struggling with this part on various models for several years. Hopefully they end up doing the right thing and covering this and reimbursing those of us who have no choice and have to replace the faulty part now. To not do so is putting our lives and those around us in jeopardy.
Driving our vehicle on the interstate and the vehicle completely shut down on us. Now, the vehicle will only start periodically. The starter turns over but will not crank on most attempts. Usually will start after trying for about 10 to 15 minutes. Researched the problem and found that this vehicle has a faultly tipm. Chrsyler customer service is of no help. They have issed a recall but have no parts available and do not know when they will. Very poor customer service!!! this has now become a very dangerous vehicle to drive and chrsyler/Dodge seems to be in no hurry to come up with a remedy for its clients.
Starter won't engage after 4 or 5 attempts to turn the key, engine started. Tipm had to be replaced. Took car to be serviced at Dodge dealer 2 two times reporting that car will only start after 4 or 5 attempts. After 36k miles warranty expired took car to mechanic and he replaced tipm, car is running fine now.
Vehicle has issues when start up. Push button start results in the starter engaging and cranking for long period until system shuts it off. Various warning lights illuminate on the evic and dash. Check engine light, low range light, traction control light, etc. Seems occurrances are sporadic but becoming more numerous. You can tell the fuel pump runs uncontrolled because there is the definite strong smell of gasoline when the starter shuts down and before the engine ever starts.
Noticed a vehicle starting problem sometime in early 2014. The starter would just crank the engine without it firing. I did notice the lightning bolt warning illuminated as the vehicle failed to start. I had to let off the brake and push the start button to disengage the starter from turning the engine over. I then repeated the process to start the vehicle and it started right up with no further problems & no lights. This issue happened several more times over the months with the same outcome until August 31, 2014. On this date, the vehicle would not start after 3 or 4 times, also noting the lightning bolt illuminated. I then placed the vehicle in neutral and it started with warning lights extinguished. This happened again the next day on September 1, 2014 and again had to start the vehicle in neutral. While driving the vehicle that day I noticed the fcw light illuminate for about 10-15 mins then went away for the remainder of the drive. I have noticed this light intermittently while driving before and after September 1st. The start problem has become a recurring issue. September 9, 2014, it took about 15 attempts to finally start the vehicle with the electronic throttle control (lightning bolt) light steadily illuminated until the vehicle started. Once it started, the following warning lights remain illuminated: 1) anti-lock brake system, 2) electronic stability control, 3) brake, and 4) both left & right mirror blind spot warning triangles. In addition, the electronic speedometer read zero while driving. I drove a half mile to the store and turned the vehicle off for 10 mins. It then started normally with no warning lights illuminated. I drove about another mile to my house without any issues. I've have found numerous people with the same type of issues on Chrysler products and almost all have led to a faulty tipm with repair costs over $1,000.
This used vehicle (no full factory warranty) was purchased at a local Dodge dealer in the south houston, texas area on Tuesday August 26, 2014 with 39,332 miles on it. The drive home was about 96 miles +-. The next morning Wednesday August 27, 2014 I went out to the 2011 Dodge Durango citadel I just purchased and when I attempted to start the Durango, the starter just cranked & cranked with no starting, so the start button had to be pushed to stop the cranking so the starter would not burn up. This is one of the known problem with the ticm (totally intergraded power module) that Chrysler is aware of, and it is known that the engine could possible shut down while driving. Chrysler/Dodge must be required to have a recall before someone get killed. It is also believed that the dealer knew fully well that the problem existed when they sold me the car, as they had the vehicle for about 7-9 day's before listing it for sale.
This vehicle has been to the dealership 4 times for the same issue, failure to start. The starter would crank, the fuel pump would work, it just would not turn over. The first time they replaced the battery. The second time they said they could not find a problem. The third time the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. They said the battery was drained. They charged it and it tested fine. It still had issues starting. They kept it for 2 days and finally replaced the tpim. 2 weeks later, they vehicle failed to start again. They told me I had a dead battery and replaced it again. It looks like this exact issue is noted by many other people. Why has a recall not been issued on this issue? my wife, 2 year old and 1 month old were stuck in 110 degree heat trying to start the vehicle. This is a safety issue!.
The problem first manifested itself in an occasional difficulty starting the vehicle, typically after it sat overnight. Upon pressing the start button the starter would engage but the engine would not start. Pressing the start button again to stop the cranking and then re-pressing the button would get the engine to start. Weeks would sometimes go by without the problem recurring. Around the middle of July 2014 the problem started to get much worse, the car sometimes not starting multiple times during the day even after short stops. Around the end of July my wife had the problem happen to her, got the vehicle started, but as she backed out of a parking spot the vehicle stalled in the traffic lane. After that incident I took the vehicle to a Dodge dealership where they "cleared several fault codes" and sent me on my way. Three days later the vehicle once again wouldn't start, but the "reset and repress" tactic would work and the vehicle would run. Around August 7 2014 the problem got much worse. The vehicle took multiple attempts and 1-2 minutes to get running on several mornings, now though the vehicle would stall once started and before moving. Once running, in gear, and moving the car would run fine. Car failed to start then each morning Aug 15-17, taking 1-2 minutes each morning and multiple stalls. On afternoon of August 17, 5 minutes after making a dealer apt for next morning, I was driving at about 10 miles per hour and the engine died completely, power steering and brakes went out as well. Only after 3 minutes did finally using the remote start function on the key fob get the vehicle to start and run, this on a very busy roadway blocking a lane of traffic. Next day vehicle would not start at the dealer either, they diagnosed a bad tipm module and offered me a new module for $1200 or a "relay kit" for $587. New module cured problem for now.
Car just shut off while pulling out into a busy intersection, would not restart. The starter would engage but it would not start the car. . . Car engine would sputter continuously. Loss of power, and electricity. Almost caused me to get hit from the side while my 2 kids were in back seat!!!!!! the other car slammed on breaks stopping mere inches from the driver-side. A 5 car pile up behind him occurred due to this matter! a gentleman pushed me to the side of the road where I waited for a tow truck. Before the tow truck arrived I researched problems this vehicle only to find that I'm not the only one that has had this happen!!!!! after the car was turned off for a while, I tried to start it and it would start after several attempts and my pumping the gas pedal to keep it at a idle until the engine caught on that it was supposed to be running. I avoided the tow fine but drove my car to the autozone 1/2 mile up the road (same side of the road. . . Too scared to cross intersections). There was no diagnostic code found, which come to find out is also common when the tipm is faulty! every time 3 out of 5 times I try to start my car I have to go through the same thing. This car is not safe and it needs to be fixed ASAP. I have a family and a job that need this car to operate efficiently.
Engine shutdown, out of the blue. Nobus appeared on odometer. All gauges were on 0, but all other electronics worked. Starter would crank, but ignition would not ignite. I'm not sure if fuel pump went on or not. Vehicle would not start back up for apx 20 minutes. A couple days later, it happened again, then twice in one day. The quickest, but temporary, solution is to cool down pcm. An ice pack works great! but this is not always convenient. Needless to say, problem is worse on hot days. Once this happens, you need to replace pcm because solder joints are broken within. When unit cools, metal contracts, and contact is made again, and truck will start. But keep in mind-the solder joints are still broken. When unit heats back up, metal will expand, and connection will be lost again, causing engine shutdown and no bus to electrical ignition system. The very first time this happened, I had gone over a bump, which is probably what initially "broke" the solder joint. A new pcm can run $400. One from a junk yard could work, but there's always the risk that, it too, has the same problem-maybe that's why the truck is in the junkyard to begin with! and if it was in front end collision, good chance it won't be any good either! I've owned my Durango for 13 years, and it has never really left me stranded. But now that it has this problem, combined with bad design of front hub assy, vehicle is very unsafe and it's time to retire it - even though motor still runs strong.

The electrical portion started after I first purchased the vehicle. The issue worsened after someone broke into the vehicle. The car wouldn't stay charged, and I ended up needing a tow every other week. My car insurance went up to $550. 00 a month. I was always stranded. The problem was worse in the rain. Sometimes the car would cut off while driving, it did it once on the highway and I saw a semi coming down the highway and I thought I was dead. I got it started and pulled over to the shoulder because I didn't have enough speed to get out the way. Eventually it couldn't' start anymore. I had it sitting for a year as I kept making loan payments. I fixed one thing after the other. . . Thinking it was the problem. . . The car would start and die a few days later. This last time I changed the starter for the third time. A rod was thrown and the engine is locked. I wasn't even driving the vehicle, it started after 3rd starter was installed and a crunch noise sounded a few minutes later while trying to give the battery some juice. I towed it into another shop and they confirmed the engine is gone. I had to pay full coverage insurance because it's financed and a car note for a truck that's gone. I've searched online and Dodge knows and hasn't taken responsibility. Involuntary repossession would be futile because after the fee for repo, towing, storage. . I will owe more than what I have left to pay, $5000. 00 and still not even scrap metal. I've read so many discussion board post, consumer blogs on this model and 'm floored. I guess the complaints are recent because one you get to like 70,00 mile you are toast. I don't drive to work, only on the weekends and I take good care of my truck and now I have nothing but payments and metal that looks pretty on the outside.

2012 Dodge Durango, 5. 7. Hemi, keyless start, auto transmission. Since vehicle was relatively new, would occasionally not start, starter would engage, but to ignition. Within the last 2 months has gotten worse, now approximately 70% of the time, vehicle will not start using the push to start. If lock the vehicle and use remote start from the key fob, will 95% of time start. Must then unlock the vehicle and press the push to start button. Sometimes the engine will at this point run rough and stall. Must then repeat the process. Rarely the key will not be detected while in the vehicle. Either key fob is the same and they have new cr2032 batteries in them. Tipm is at fault. Vehicle now has approximately 57,000 miles on it.
