I was driving home, stopped at a light, the car hesitated and knocked then went. I drove a little further and it began knocking and loosing power. I was traveling up a hill with no shoulder. Pulled over in a safe location and called for help. I had the car towed to graphs automotive. They informed me the engine blew due to the #4 piston. I towed the car back home.

My Dodge Intrepid, 65000 miles, purchased brand new, had its oil light come on and a knock start in the engine. After bringing it to a dealer, was told that I need a new engine for $5700. . Out of warranty, claim through daimler Chrysler was denied, citing failure to follow scheduled maintenance. I supplied dates and mileage and receipts showing all but one oil change done under the recommended 7500 mile limit. Now being told it should be every 3 thousand miles. This is not what the warranty book says.

Events leading up to the failure included flickering oil light, loud knocking from the engine. The consequences of the failure resulted in complete destruction of the engine. My mechanic advised that the only remedy would be to replace the whole engine. I traded the car in at a severe financial loss.

While driving, my Dodge Intrepid started to shudder. After pulling over and turning off the car, it would no longer restart. It was towed to a service station and they informed me that the 2. 7 engine was shot due to sludge. I was shocked since the car was 5 years old, had roughly 78k miles, and was well-maintained. So far Chrysler has been unresponsive to my problem.

2000 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 engine developed a knocking dealer stated sludge build up in engine, due to lack of maintenance. This has happened to a good percentage of thease engines. Must be a design flaw. Daughters car, father is retired army motor sgt, father maintained the car, with the large number of these instances, why isn't the government investigating?.

My 17 year old daughter was driving my 2000 Dodge Intrepid with the 2. 7ltr when all of a sudden the motor seized left her with no power starring or brakes thank god she was on a back road when this happened and not the highway who knows what could a happened she was terrified and could not control the car, she managed to stop on the side of the road thankfully she was alright something has to be done about this before people start getting killed in these death machines.

Bought car used from dealership, next day car ran out of gas, guage registered over quarter full, took to dealership, was supposedly "repaired", 5 days later ran out of gas same place on fuel guage(just over a quarter tank), took it to dealership, has been in the shop for 4 days so far, hopefully they'll fix it this time. Much inconvenience, loss of work. But dealership has covered all repairs. Worried about oil sludge problem.

Consumer stated that 2. 7 liter engine caught on fire. Consumer was driving and noticed the smoke under the engine. Consumer opened the hood and the engine was engulfed in flames. There was evidence of motor oil all over the engine. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who insisted after an inspection that vehicle was fine. However, the vehicle had serious engine problems. Consumer's insurance company refused to assist stating that this problem was the manufacturer's fault. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, and was told that warranty expired. This vehicle had only 53,000 miles, and became totally useless.

I had a engine seize up after 22,000 miles because of engine sludge. I have had at least 4 oill changes on the vehicle about every 5,000 miles . Manufacturer recommended states that maximun is 75000 miles. I have a 3 year old car with 22,000 miles on it and a seized engine. Can you help????.

On Feb 17,2006,my kids was going out of town after about 55 miles out of town. My daughter heard a sound under the hood,the oil light came on she pulled over on interstate 10 . Then she tried to start it up again and it wouldn't start. The tow truck came after about an hour. Took it to the shop and we was told the engine had locked up (blew). It only have about 71,000 miles, bought at about 18,300 miles paid cash. I was told it is hard to find a used motor and it will cost from 2,500-3,000 to fix it and a new motor will cost 4-6,000 dollars. We can't afford that we have 2 kids in college and 2 kids to graduate next year and plus 2 smaller kids,on a fixed income and my husband is disabled. Someone needs to do something about this problem because I have read a lot of complaints tonight. I would have never known this many people was having the same problem I am having. This is a shame. Please do something. Thank you.

After driving consumer parked vehicle inside of a garage and went inside the house. Then she noticed that smoke was coming from garage, and saw vehicle on fire. Consumer believed that fire had started in the engine.

Consumer complained about an engine problem. Consumer heard a knock in the motor, and the motor locked up without warning.
