Failure Date: 11/25/2005

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had no control of the steering and brakes. The vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined the engine had to be replaced because there were no parts for the 2. 7 long block engine. An independent mechanic also made the same diagnosis. The manufacturer was contacted, and concurred with the dealership about the engine replacement due to non-availability of the engine components. The contact expressed concern about the responsibility of the manufacturer not complying with the obligation to provide the necessary parts to perform the vehicle repairs.

37 Car Stall problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/22/2005

While driving home from work, going 60 mph, my car stalled (jerked) and within 2 seconds came back on by itself. The next day while driving to work, the car did the same thing. Today while driving to thanksgiving dinner at 25 mph, my car stalled completely. I heard no knocking or ticking prior to the stall. I was able to pull off to the side of the road; a hard feat in itself since the power steering went out. After 30 seconds, I was able to restart the car and finish my journey. On the way home from the dinner, traveling at 60 mph, my car stalled again. I was driving down a rural road and just wanted to make it home with my daughter; it was extremely cold outside with 25 mph winds and I was 25 miles from home. I was able to restart the car and continue on; this happened 3 times until the fourth time when the car would not turn over again. I got the car towed home on thanksgiving night at 7:00pm, most certainly ruining someone's holiday!.

39 Car Stall problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/08/2005

My car suddenly began to stall. I drove it to the dealer today. It stalled several times on a busy road on the way to the dealer. Luckily, the car was followed by someone who was giving me a ride home. The dealer told me that my car, a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, had an engine full of sludge and needed to be replaced for $7300. Chrysler will only help if I can provide proof of oil changes every 3000 miles. I did change the oil regularly but often had it done here at home and have no such proof. This stalling was dangerous and could have resulted in an accident.

The motor stalled while the vehicle was in motion which caused a loss of power steering and brakes. The dealer stated that the motor needed to be replaced. 42 Car Stall problem of the 1998 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 08/19/2005

The contact owns a 1998 Dodge Intrepid. On August 19, 2005 while driving at 55 mph and at a steady speed the vehicle stalled, and the contact's son lost control of the vehicle. He pulled off to the side of the road and contacted a towing service. The vehicle was taken to repair shop, and they told the contact that it was a bad engine. They have seen a lot of these problems with similar vehicles where the engine had sludge. The vehicle has not been corrected because the cost of repair was too expensive.

46 Car Stall problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 04/22/2005

While driving home April 20, 2005 my car began sputtering and stalled out. I got it home and called my mechanic to come over and check it out. He immediately told me that I had a rod knock, and that I needed to replace the cam sensor. On April 22, 2005 I had the sensor installed, $37. 00 for part. The car was then driven approximately 15 miles and the knocking in the engine got increasingly worse until it went bang and would no longer run. The engine had thrown a rod. Now we are looking at a replacement engine, at an approximate cost of $3,500. 00 to $5,000. 00. This for a vehicle with only 44,000 miles. It should be just breaking in at this point, not breaking down, especially from a blown engine. This vehicle has been properly maintained, having had the oil changed regularly at 2,500-3,000 miles. I have seen several postings regarding this engineering fault created by Chrysler in the 2. 7 litre engine and it would seem that the manufacturer should do something to offset the major expense caused by their design.

47 Car Stall problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 04/15/2005

I purchased a used 2000 Dodge Intrepid in may 2003. In April of 2005 while turning a corner at a busy intersection car stalled in the middle of the intersection. Vehicle was towed to mechanic. I was told by my mechanic that I needed a new engine. He advised me to have the car towed to a junk yard because all Dodge engines were junk. I still owe $5000 for this car, and still required to maintain car insurance. It is sitting in storage. I could not afford to purchase a used or new engine. As a result, I have been without transportation for almost a year. I am a single parent on a fixed income. I now car pool and sometimes rent vehicles for transportation.

He first told me that they could do an engine flush, the second call was that he could not flush the engine as it is about to totally go out. I have receipts for oil and filters and when I installed them. I bought the car used with under 40,000 miles and have drove approximately 10,000 since.
