1 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

Car was maintained imaculately, 3 weeks before the doa date, there was a very faint ticking sound (like a roulette wheel spining "click" sound) coming from under the hood. Took the car to the mechanic to have the oil changed and have the cars new noise checked. He said it could be a lifter ticking and the oil change solved the problem. He was correct about the sound muting however the issue may be the tiny oil port holes in these Mitsubishi made mopar engines. On the day of the engines death it made the same ticking sound, my cue that I could share with anyone about to have this failure occur, when I would start the car I noticed an extra "spinning" sound under the hood when I would start the car. It is minor so listen close to your start-up. The ticking got louder and eventually at a stop light on the way to the mechanic the car stopped and would not run. Do an internet search for Dodge Intrepid 2000 2. 7 liter motor you will find a horror show on the internet. Loved the car while it worked but the death was too premature, I only drive about 8,000 miles per year.

15 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2001 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/02/2007

Noticed the oil light flickering on and off at stop lights. Looked for problems but saw none. A few days later noticed a very quiet ticking sound coming from the engine. Unfortunately not being a car knowledgeable person I did not take this seriously enough. A week later driving to a destination I heard a loud knocking in the engine. Arrived at my destination and shut the engine off. Upon attempt to restart the engine some time later there was more knocking and refusal to turn over. Car was towed to a local garage where I learned the tinning chain had broken and damaged a number of the pistons and other components of the engine. Only recourse was either install a new engine or buy a new car. As I am still paying for this car I opted to purchase an engine. Engine has been installed and I have just got my car back tonight after nearly a month without a vehicle. Now I have to find some way to pay for this mess as I had to borrow it short term from a friend. I am in a very bad financial situation because for this. I am attempting to apply to Chrysler for their reimbursement program with little hope of success since I did not keep the oil change records and receipts records they require.

Now I'm told that the best thing to do is spend between $4,500 and $5,000 to replace the engine. It hasn't been repaired yet (12-11-2007).

19 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2004 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 06/26/2007

I am still paying for 2004 Dodge Intrepid inwhich the motor just suddenly locked up on. My Intrepid is still under warranty and was told by dailmerchyrsler that it had to be taken to my local dealer, which it was by tow truck. After many weeks talking with the tech. At the dealer ship I was told that dailmerchyrsler was not going to honor the warranty. I had tried for two weeks to get a hold of the district manager that may this call but no one will give me his name or contact number. Chyrsler customer service was rude and told me to go thru the dealership for handling this matter because they go thru the district manager. My car ran fine until that one night on my way home and it made a sudden light ticking sound and no warning lights was on and all the sudden about 3 minutes later my engine locks up leaving me in the middle of the road. The tech. At the dealership told me that the oil descending unit blew out when he first looked at it and also stated that it would cause the motor to lock up. But by so call order from the district manager the tech. Took a sample from scraping the oil pan. The tech. Then comes back a week later and stated that results are that sluge in the motor could also been a factor. I dont have the $6000. 00 that they want to put another motor in but I still have to pay my big monthly car payments. I cant believe this multi-million dollar company is to cheap to honor thier company warranty on something that is clearly their car's malfuntion.

26 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/21/2006

I was on my way to work & my car started to make a clicking noise. I have always taken great care of this car! I was concerned, but I was on the highway so there wasn't a place to pull over! I was only about 20 min to town & thought I could get there to check this out. I was on a stretch of the highway that the only exit is another major highway. All of the sudden the car went from 65 mph to 0 mph. I was driving during rush hour traffic with cars speeding by me! the cars behind almost ran into me! I managed to get the car pulled over on the narrow shoulder. I was terrified to get out of my car due to all the speeding traffic and on the other side was such a narrow space between the car and the median. I called for a tow truck so I could get it to our mechanic. The mechanic shop said that the engine was dead/ locked up. It only had 81k miles on it! I have done an extreme amount of research of the 2. 7l engine that Chrysler put in my 1999 Dodge Intrepid. The engine is defective! it is the poor construction of this engine that is causing it to sludge up causing it to lock up all the sudden, leaving you with a car you can't drive! I have had an oil analysis done on my oil, several things that were found concerned them, but the one thing that is prominent is that there was moisture/ water in the oil. It is alarming that there are so many consumers that have had this exact problem, and there's no recall on this engine! due to the moisture causing it to "sludge up & die" I think if one of the cars behind me would have hit my car (like they almost did) then I could've been pushed in to traffic and seriously hurt. This was a terrifying experience. I don't want this to happen to another person. I feel that this is a severe safety issue & somebody needs to address this matter soon! I am not able to afford another engine & installation at this time (priced at about $6k+). I own a car that I can not drive. It's Chrysler's fault putting this engine in, not mine.

27 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/11/2006

Purchased Dec 2001 with maximum added care protection plan for 6yr/60k miles. Performed all vehicle required maintenance and never had an issue until 12/11/06 when the vehicle stopped in motion presenting a clicking sound. Vehicle towed to dealer as we thought to repair an alternator or battery. However the dealer states that our vehicle's motor ceased and it has sludge in the engine as when they open the oil cap, sludge is clearly evident. We are still attempting to get the service agreement to pay for the repair as we feel that it is not our fault since providing regular maintenance and the vehicle is presently under such warranty coverage. Our internet research shows that there are hundreds of 2. 7 liter engine owners have suffered the same issue with daimlerchrysler accepting no fault but acknowledging this is a common complaint however dcx refers that consumers did not follow regular maintenance schedules. Dealer cost to replace/repair engine $8900 as quoted on 12/11/06 by cueter Dodge ypsilanti, mi.
