1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1999 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

My sister bought the car brand new at a dealer in columbus ohio. . Took the car to same dealer for all maintenance and repairs. . . Last month the engine light kept going on . . . They did several repairs to fix it the last being putting in a new catalytic converter to the tune of 2500. The blue book is 3000. . . . The next day the engine blew. . . The dealer wanted to put in a new engine. . . Chrysler is not taking responsibility. They claim to know nothing about a sludge problem. . . But if you google the car you will find page after page of complaints very similar to my sister's problem. . . And neither is the dealer taking any responsibility. . . My sister is almost 70 and has a husband who is a stroke victim. . . Her hands are full. . . . . . . My sister was ripped off and so have a lot of other americans. . . . I would love to talk to someone who can help find some justice. . .

2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 12/21/2009

The check engine light came on and went off periodically before receiving a recall notice in sept of 2009. Recall states 'the catalytic converters on your vehicle MA become damaged from continued operation in "limp-in" mode following a camshaft position sensor fault. ' nothing was done to repair the problem because ' the repairs cause more damage' according to a Chrysler rep. The rep also said that there was nothing that they could do for me and they will send another recall notice in the mail. The license plates on the vehicle have expired. Because the check engine light is on, I am not able to register the vehicle.

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/30/2009

I own a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7 liter engine. Engine oil light keeps flickering. Also, sometimes the check engine light comes on and then off again. I did a code check to find it was the camshaft position sensor and oxygen sensor. I took this vehicle to the Dodge dealership. When I spoke to the service adviser and a mechanic, they stated that there is not much I can do, this is an on-going problem with these engines. I was shocked, way to go Dodge! even your own employees don't have any faith in your products! I regularly change the oil myself every 3,000 miles with synthetic.

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 09/02/2009

I was driving home from work. I had checked the coolant recently and the engine light was not on. Sitting at a light I looked at my temp gage it was climbing. Within seconds I heard a loud pop and steam started bellowing from under the hood. With out warning the water housing cover blew denting the hood. I am thankful I had just exited the interstate and was able to get to a safe place to park it fast. At this time I do not know what other damage has been done. Waiting on a new cover and we will find out.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 04/14/2008

My 2004 Intrepid has not failed but it is showing some of the same signs as many others have described. About 3 or 4 months ago my engine oil light started coming on while the car was sitting at idle or going at a slow speed. Recently the car has started not being able to come out of second gear until it has ran for a while. It also knocks while I am at a stop. I am on a fixed income and replacing an engine is something I cannot afford to do. What can be done right now to avoid this whole situation? why is the 2. 6l v6 engine so terrible? the dealership I purchased this 2004 Intrepid from has been bought out and is under new management. I do not want to end up with a car payment but no car.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that antifreeze was leaking into the engine. In order to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, an additional diagnosis is required at the cost of $900. The dealer also stated that the vehicle will need a new engine because the current one was built too small, and prevents the fluids from distributing correctly. The cost for the new engine is $8,400. The engine was previously checked and minor components were replaced. The contact will not have this failure corrected due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified, but would not assist. The vehicle was under warranty for only 36,000 miles. The current mileage was 77,000 and failure mileage was 52,000.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

While driving my car the check engine light came on and there was no heat coming out of the heating unit. This has occurred several times since purchasing this vehicle. The vehicle is now at the dealers they want $900. 00 just to take the engine apart. If it needed a new engine it would cost $8,000. Since we still owe $6000 this is not a practical solution. This vehicle only has 77,000 miles on it. I called daimler Chrysler this morning and they said there is nothing they can do to help me. They stated the engine is only warranted up to 36,000 miles.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

We were driving our 2002 Dodge Intrepid and the engine light came on and then the engine shut off. I struggled to keep the car in control until I could pull off the side of the road. It was difficult because of loss of steering. The light had come on many times before but the service dept at my Dodge dealer could not explain it. Now they say we need a new engine because of lack of oil changes. I just had the oil changed there and they did not mention sludge in the engine.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 11/04/2007

6 weeks ago, I started hearing a slight ticking noise. I immediately scheduled my oil to be changed the next day at a dealership, as always. On Nov 4, I was on my way to a meeting, my engine light came on while sitting at a stop light next to a gas station. . . I pulled in and shut my car off. I checked my oil and it was a little low, I added enough oil to bring it back up to the max line and the engine light went off. I drove about a mile and half up the rode when I all the sudden heard a loud bang and very loud fast ticking. I pulled over and had my vehicle towed to a dealership where it is still sitting unfixed. Chrysler will not cover this under my warranty even though they are very well aware of this problem in the 2. 7l engine. I have always had very positive feelings about Chrysler and now I don't know what to think. They need to make this right to me and I can't even get them to listen to anything. . . They are so incredibly cold hearted and really truly don't care at all. I still owe $5,000 on this car and can't drive it. The dealership is telling me it is going to be close to $8,000 to fix. The dealership is also telling me this is a big problem with the 2. 7l engine. The engine builds up oil sludge and can't circulate causing a lack of lubrication. He said Chrysler is very aware of this and is not helping anyone in this situation. They actually quit making this engine due to the problems and have now redesigned the 2. 7l to put it in the 2008's again.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Dodge Intrepid

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

I have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid with 72,000 miles on it. We have had this car since it had 9,000 miles on it and have done all the suggested repairs and oil changes since the first day we had it. Recently while my husband was driving the car it started to shake violently on the freeway (almost causing a few accidents) and the rpm's jumped way up over 4000. Then the engine light came on. The repair shop said it was the cam sensor. It was replaced and within an hour the same thing happened. Took the car back and they said it was the crank sensor, replaced that, same thing happened within 5 mins of the repair shop. The shop then told us that the engine was bad and there was a history with the 2. 7's. We took the car to the dealer for a second opinion and they said we could replace the timing chains and that would save the car for a year or so until we could get it paid off (still owe $6000) but it would cost $1700 plus tax. We decided to do that, however the dealer called us back and said after they got the engine apart they noticed it was full of sludge and the timing chains were fine. They recommended a new engine and quoted us over $6000. I have seen thousands of people with this issue. We have bought 3 Dodge/Chrysler vehicles in the last 5 years from this dealer and they would do nothing to compensate us. We even offered to buy a new car there if we could get accurately compensated and they said my car is worth nothing! Chrysler does not stand behind their products and should be forced to replace these engine that they know have an issue. What ever happened to customer service, especially to a customer that has shown you loyalty??????.

Failure Date: 01/10/2007

- the contact explained that the check engine light of her 1999 Dodge Intrepid turned on in 2002, after owning the vehicle for about 3 weeks. The contact was not able to drive over 10 mph. The contact took the vehicle to northtown Dodge. The dealer replaced speed sensors on the vehicle, causing the engine light to turn off. Sometime during 2004 the engine light turned on again, and the vehicle was not able to be driven over 10 mph. The contact had a personal mechanic contact the dealer and verify the need to replace the speed sensor again. The speed sensors were replaced and the vehicle was operational. In November 2006 the check engine light turned on for a third time. The contact took the vehicle to her personal mechanic, who verified that it was a speed sensor issue and replaced it. On January 10, 2007 the check engine light turned on for a fourth time, but did not loose power. The contact continued to drive to a mechanic who found no problems. The oil light turned on, as well. No loss of power was experienced at this time like in previous failures. The contact explained that once the vehicle was moving the oil light turned off, but turns on when the vehicle is at a stop.
